Hi everyone, I’m Lulu, because I’m not giving out my real name on the internet. This is just an attempt to get my music listening time up this year; it’s been depressingly low the last couple years imo, so welcome to the journey!

I use Spotify, although yes, I’m aware it sucks. I just have so much stuff on there that it feels like too much of a pain to move it right now but it is on my wishlist to do. Please do let me know which alternative platforms you guys have found that are the best for ad-free and offline listening! (I also probs won’t share my Spotify because it’s such a mess truly)

I’m gonna try to do daily song recs on here, sometimes stuff that’s unique or that I feel like I haven’t heard before. However, there’s an equally likely chance it’ll just be a song I’m really fucking with that day.

Minors feel free to interact if you like, but fair warning: the songs that I recommend will inevitably contain swearing and/or mature themes.

That’s about it for now, but if anyone actually finds this acc, I will try to update this post with answers to any of your questions!

If you like the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, check out some later period big band albums like Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus and The Roar of '84 by Buddy Rich.

If you like the Persona soundtrack, check out some more modern jazz fusion albums with electronic elements like Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal or Freedom Fables by Nubiyan Twist.

just found out that accidentally in love by counting crows was literally made for shrek. they didnt just choose it. it didnt exist before. they asked counting crows to make a song for shrek 2 and thats how we got one of the best songs ever made. insane.

here's a list of programs/sites/whatever that were helpful to me when i was moving away from using spotify & back to downloading music:

soulseek - peer to peer downloading program, has most music you'd want. there's "rules" to it though and the UI is a little confusing, but you can figure it out. there's tutorials. i believe in you

cobalt.tools, ytiz.xyz, yt-dlp - mp3 downloaders, for the songs that you can't find on soulseek

musicbee - music player, extremely customiseable. reminds me of when i used itunes back in the day. has a lot of good features, including syncing music over to your phone

lastfm & listenbrainz - sites that keep track of your listening stats. i'd recommend this even if you still choose to use a music streaming service

syncedlyrics - cmd thing that gets you timed song lyrics, like the ones spotify has. there's no UI but it's easy enough to use. just grab the lyrics and timestamps it spits out and paste it into musicbee

music presence - program that shows what song you're listening to in your discord status, in case you use discord and enjoy the thought of other people seeing what you're listening to, which i do for some reason

i'm not going to lie to you and say that switching away from spotify/streaming services is an effortless task, it took me half a whole day of nonstop Work to get all my music downloaded and sorted out, but i will say that it was worth it!! and you should do it 👍 if you want to
