It was about time I completed my Worlds Beyond Number fan art trio with Eursulon 🐻 Here's Ame and Suvi one more time, too:

Also, hey, people who are just now learning that Brennan is always Like This from campaign four:

He once ran a battle and to demonstrate how fucked everything was, the characters could basically only roll luck checks to not die trying to get to their goal in the middle of it.

He's such a bastard man and I love him so much.

I'm thinking of The Man In Black's breath. Of Night and Roads. And you may know a road if it has known a bounded wheel, or the iron shoe of horses. The Americanisms and desperado vibes. Of the industrial revolution and progress of society as a night setting on the old west. All roads lead to Rome. A stranger traveling down the road and bringing disaster when he arrives. Night as Roads as Travel as Progress as not industry or empire but of the inevitable consequences that industry and empire bring. He has been holding his breath since the dawn of time and he is walking down the road. A diamond with many facets distorted but true and a greater truth only visible through that distortion.

I can't quite put the pieces together but it's all connected and there is something there I just can't quite reach.

I love that one of the things Brennan will do (both because he trusts his players and because he wants them living in the moment) is request the players describe things in detail. Big things, but also stuff like "describe the tub" and "what does the fairy dust look like".

For anyone who's listened to Worlds Beyond Number, I always go back to the Twelve Brooks interlude, where he prompted Aabria, Erika, and Lou to just create the town out of whole cloth and spun it out from there. (And eventually used it to absolutely devastate them later in the campaign using all the wonder they created as the foundation for horror.)

"members of the corrupt ruling house all have face tattoos made from their fallen patriarch's unethically sourced evangelion blood" is actually the best worldbuilding anyone's ever done. and still there are people out there right now rereading harry potter and they think it's the height of fantasy. meanwhile there is one irish-american socialist out there with more creativity and genre awareness in a single tooth than JKR has in her whole body and they're letting him run rampant for 4 hours a week for the forseeable future. wake up sheeple

Yk, the "Suvi's favourite colour is red" bit got me thinking, like, for book 2... Yeah, Suvi's probably gonna distance herself from the citadel as much as she possibly can, but she's still namecloaked. Ame's probably not gonna make the gift for Indri (though I really wish she would!!) and though Steel knows her name, there are still many people (like, say, Indri) who would benefit from knowing her name- the namecloak is an undeniable strategic advantage. Also could Suvi even erase the namecloak if she wanted to? I'm doubtful, this is pure, overpowering citadel magic. This is taking something from the wizards, too, in a way. The systemic erasure of who they were before the citadel. So. Suvi, rebel as she is, remains known in Umora as the wizard Sky.

The first wizard Sky was one of the founders of the Citadel. A bright blue sky over a glass desert. And now there she is, a traitor and a rebel, heir, in a sense, to the Akadator, but also something beyond this- a clarity, where her parents could only see a tiny part of the picture (but that's a topic for another post). Suvi's favourite colour is red. Suvi, dying her hair red like Ersulon's glamour, wearing red clothes -her favourite color, useful for hiding bloodstains the next time she needs to kill -kith or kin, friend or foe, it splatters all the same. Dawn, dusk, a rare blood moon like a splotch of blood on an inky black sky -the colour of Vandal, of the beautiful, wild vulgarity of freedom. The fires of war, crimson falling from the sky over a torn up battle-field.

It makes me sad to not see as much excitement over HINT! as there was for The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One. Erika is doing a damn good job as GM, and everyone's characters are so rich and deep, I'm so excited for more!!! I want more episodes than just four, but god we're getting good eats at chez Ishii. The sound design alone is fucking Emmy quality. Damn you Taylor, let me crawl around in your brain so I can figure out how it works.

Also @quiddie I love Claudette, please make her a recurring character in things, she's precious to me and I would ride to war for her
