Considering this is the first estimation of her, she really is doing quite well on today's page.
Guys pls, Azune just wants to collect his $200 😩
ah do you have any favorite magical girl anime, I feel like there's gotta be more than the few I've seen
Dunno about favorite, but the one that I first cut my teeth on was Madoka Magica, just because that's the one that we watched in my school's anime club back in 8th grade. As you can imagine, that left me with somewhat slanted expectations of the genre as a whole for a little while. First one I really watched independently was Cardcaptor Sakura, I think.
Also if you want a hot take: Soul Eater is 95% of a magical girl anime.
Hey op, about that soul eater take...
You wanna elaborate?
I mean, pedantism about the main character literally being a schoolgirl with magical monster-hunter powers aside, we've got:
Power of Friendship is a run-on theme. Not only do we have the various friendships between what I'd call the seven main protagonists, with a special focus on the meister-weapon pairs, but it's baked in to the setting's power system in the form of things like soul resonance and even the meister-weapon arrangement itself.
Transformation sequences are still a thing, but you kind of only get half the standard trope because it splits up the roles of who is doing the transforming and who is doing the fighting.
Crona fills the "dark/corrupted magical girl with a horrific backstory who winds up being defeated and subsequently befriended/rehabilitated by the heroine"
I'd say the two main things separating it from the magical girl genre are the aesthetics and the conspicuous lack of any sort of secret identity/double life plot. If either of those of those things were changed, I'd honestly make the argument for Soul Eater being a particularly gothic magical girl show.
I don't care I will forever call this show a gothic magical girl show now. You cooked and it was delicious.
I mean look at this
