Humans Are Returned: FINALLY
Those hazel eyes were warm and soft as they met Adam’s. “Talk to me.”
Adam choked on all the words crowding his throat. How did he even explain the fear gripping him was because he couldn’t fathom letting Faradae near that danger again? He barely survived it before. He was shocked that Faradae wasn’t falling apart with him, given how against it he was when Adam was sent after Makhan.
“I thought we had seen the last of that damn ship,” he forced out.
Faradae’s expression melted, tinged with sadness. “Me, too.” His thumb stroked along Adam’s jaw. “Me, too.”
“How are you not freaking out?”
Faradae sucked in a deep breath. “For one, I’m hoping that I can keep you on my ship and away from them.” Adam chuckled, leaning into Faradae’s touch. It was already helping. “But I also feel a little hopeful this time.”
”Hopeful?” Adam felt anything but.
”Our last trip was a reckless rescue mission. This one will hopefully close this chapter for us. We knew we were pissing them off when we took Makhan, but this should get us protection.”
Adam was scared it wouldn’t, though. Something Faradae had to know.
“What happens when it all blows up in our face?”
“Then I have the keys to the ship, and I’m getting us the hell out of there.” His smirk was playful, but Adam had no doubt that Faradae was serious.
Sighing softly, Adam slid his fingers through Faradae’s wet strands. “I just want to be able to have a normal life with you, you know?”
Faradae shook his head. “I can’t imagine you living a normal life. I feel like when we are finally released from here, you will drag me to jump off cliffs and climb mountains or whatever else captures your attention.”
Faradae nodded, those beautiful eyes so warm that Adam forgot all about his worries. “I’ll go anywhere you want. As long as I’m with you.”
Adam’s heart ached in the best way, so full of love for this man. How had he ever gotten this lucky?
“What if the adventure I want with you is a little more mundane?”
A grin tugged at Faradae’s lips. “Like what?”
Adam shrugged, his heart rate picking up. Even if he hadn’t admitted it, he had given it some thought before. “Like a home we decorate together. A dog that likes to hike. Maybe…” He licked his lips, trying not to feel nervous. “Maybe we get married. Have a family. Something like that.”
He couldn’t bring himself to stare at Faradae as he waited for his answer. His eyes dropped to the floor, but Faradae wouldn’t let him get away with that. His finger hooked beneath Adam’s chin, forcing his gaze upward.
“As soon as we get out of here, we’ll pick a spot. We’ll get that house and that dog and find the perfect spots.” Adam’s heart damn near beat out of his chest at Faradae’s words. “But as for us getting married…”
There went his heart. Straight out of his ass.
“Why do we have to wait?”
This is from the finale of my trilogy, Humans Are Returned, out now!
