Amble || Brooke & Kai

The sound of someone approaching had Kai tilting his head back, trying to catch a glimpse of who was coming. Unable to make out who it was, he let out a little huff as she filled his vision. Almost positive he had seen her around town on more than one occasion his eyes followed her as she continued moving closer. âCareful. Thereâs a hole a couple steps ahead of you. If you fall, Iâm afraid we may be here a while before someone comes this way. This isnât one of the usual paths unless youâre a runner. Though if you wanna fall for me, be my guess.â
Of course he couldnât keep the line from slipping out of his mouth, despite the very real warning that he had given here. âI think itâs a sprained ankle. Kinda hoping itâs nothing serious. The last thing I need is a broken leg or something.â Not to mention the jokes at his expense that would no doubt come if he sustained an actual injury from the hobby he enjoyed so much. Running had always been a big part of his life. It helped him keep a clear and focused mind when the world was just banging at the door.Â
âIf you could help me up, I could put a little bit of weight on it, see if I can manage that,â he said, pushing up on his elbows, not really wanting to test the ankle. If he didnât put any wight on it, then it wasnât really hurt. He quite preferred to live his life that way. If he didnât acknowledge a problem, then it didnât exist.
As soon as the word 'careful' fell from his lips her gaze dropped immediately to the ground. She spied the hole that he mentioned, and carefully tip toed her way around it as though it may swallow her whole. Once clear of the obstacle she approached him proper, and crouched down beside him, "I'd rather avoid any injuries if I can help it." She chuckled softly before giving him a pointed but amused look at his innuendo. "If it were a broken leg you wouldn't be laying here so nicely â and wouldn't be able to make such awful jokes," She smirked as she looked down toward his ankle, even going so far as to lift the hem of his pants so she could investigate, "Lucky for you, I'm a nurse, and judging by this swelling you've indeed gotten yourself a nice little sprain there. Might be worth popping by the ER for an x-ray, make sure you haven't gotten any hairlines. Those are the worst." A nurse midwife, granted, but a nurse none the less. She 'ughed' dramatically before straightening back up.Â
She offered him both hands for him to grab so she could pull him up, "Alright then, let's get you off this rock. On a count of three, one-two-three!" On that count she'd heave him up, as best as all 5'2" of her could manage.
