The exact truth of it is inconclusive – the leak was posted on GameFAQs and sourced an unknown “Japanese site”, but at least two other leak posts were made on GFAQs and one had the whole plot of XV as it turned out in the game at least eight months ago. People called that fake and look where we are now.
Here are the details, edited slightly for grammar.
Noctis was going to die in VsXIII, but In a more symbolic manner. He died on his throne as if he were going to sleep (reference to Somnus)
Prompto and Gladio would have betrayed Noctis at some point in the original trilogy, Prompto because of Niflheim and his dad, Verstael ( who was a bigger antagonist ) forcing him to, Gladio did it because he approved of Noct as a friend but not as a king.
Regis died at the end of the first game. His killer is named below.
Stella would have lived, but not in very good health. She was not the main antagonist of Versus XIII. Her parents were killed when she was a child. Her brother became a double spy for The Lucis/Tenebrae alliance and Niflheim ( more precisely Ardyn ). She suffered a near death experience when the high ranking officer in charge of her tried to kill her by orders from Niflheim.
There were FOUR major villains in Versus XIII : Ravus in the first game, Verstael in the second game, Ardyn in the third game. Clarus Amicitia ( who was named “Noctis’s evil uncle” by fans in e3 2013 thanks to this concept art ) was the one who killed Regis and permitted Niflheim to secretly organize an invasion, because he was jealous and considered his friend as an egoistic king. The backstory was later shifted to Glauca in Kingsglaive.
Ravus was more calm and used magic from Tenebrae. He was blind because he could see the dead ( like Noctis ) but couldn’t stand the ability. He was the final boss of the first game but died in the second game. Stella killed him without knowing it was him under the hood, because of Ardyn.
Verstael was the most dangerous villain of Versus XIII. He was obsessed with the powers of the royal blood. He used human test subjects from annexed nations of Solheim and Tenebrae. He infused his son Prompto with Magitek but it was a failure so he left him. He made Prompto betray the group and blasted some of insomnia with a Magitek blast.
When Ardyn killed Iedolas onscreen in Gralea, Verstael became the new ruler of Niflheim, He made experiments on both Noctis and Prompto to recreate one of the beings that created Eos, but this monstrosity killed him. This thing was the final boss of the second game, and Prompto died at the end of this battle. It’s later revealed that He (Verstael ?) made a magic pact with Ardyn, like Ravus.
Iedolas had a more important role since the peace treaty was an in-game scene. He also bullied Ardyn in one scene to make Noctis help the chancellor, but this was a ruse from Ardyn, playing the victim.
Gladio took a shot from his father that was meant to hit Noctis. Noctis then kills Clarus. The scene from first trailer from 2006 take place after this scene ( third game )
Aranea had the same script, basically an anti heroic guest character.
Gentiana had a completly different role, she was THE oracle of Versus XIII. She was eventually Stella’s close friend. She was revealed to be a descendant of the real royal bloodline making her ancestor Eos. She was Shiva’s reincarnation. Her outfit was not the black dress she has now. Her design was more samurai-ish.
Ardyn was not meant to be a former king of lucis. In the first game he wouldn’t have much screentime, We’d know only his name and position, and that he has a funny side. In the second game we’d see him as the real cause of Stella’s position against Noctis : He manipulated both Fleuret siblings because they had a power of Light capable of countering Lucis Caelum powers who are said to be fueled from Darkness.
His motives would be revealed in the third game: He was the “first being created by Etro” who was tasked to guide humans to peace, but they were always fighting for power so he created Darkness to maintain a balance and gave it to Gentiana’s ancestors, who were superior beings (Summons). But a human fell In love with one of Etro’s daughters, thus making the current Lucis Caelum bloodline. It was originally a ruse from the Lucis Caelum clan to retrieve the power of Darkness from the Summons, but the true mastermind was Ardyn because he judged that he deserved this power more than humans did. This created The Plague of Stars. Etro punished him and he was outcast from godhood, living now among humans for eternity.
Ardyn’s goal in Versus XIII was to make the Lucis Caelum and Nox Fleuret families fall to bring chaos, and make Etro wake up from her slumber to kill her with the crystal. The crystal was created by Etro, but became a catalyst of The Plague of Stars, an epidemic born of this unbalance which lengthened the nights, made humans more aggressive and sensible to their emotions, then turned them into Demons.
Ardyn would turn into into his original form in the final fight, in which he would kill Etro who was sleeping while using Stella as her Host ( like in the logo ) and fuse with Etro’s skull ( depicted in the Lucian King’s Crest ). Ironically, Ardyn, blind in his rage, would forget that he wanted to die after all. Noctis granted that wish with the last level of his power, which was to teleport souls to the Kingdom of the Dead. Stella was saved, but she became depressive after Noctis’s death.

Noctis dies ( weakened and by his own Will )
Gladio dies ( by Clarus )
Prompto dies
Ignis lives. Also he is the only one who stays 100% loyal to Noctis.
Stella lives
Ravus dies ( by Stella )
Regis dies ( by Clarus )
Cor dies ( by Ardyn )
Gentiana lives and becomes Shiva though it’s implied that Astrals are meant to disappear at the end of the trilogy.
Ardyn lives in the Kingdom of the Dead and can’t return
Iedolas dies
Verstael dies
Glauca dies In a boss battle. He was already a Lucian traitor in armor. But he was not Drautos. ( Kingsglaives existed but not at all like now )
Aranea lives
Cid and Cidney lives.
Weskham existed already and dies in Versus XIII
Noctis mother was named in the trilogy as Aulea Lucis Caelum. She lives in the Kingdom of the Dead.
Iris was not as important as now. She was also much younger.
Loqi, Nyx, Dino, Drautos didn’t exist until 2011.
Gameplay :
- summons : ifrit ( solheim, traitor summon ), leviathan ( accordo ), bahamut ( niflheim ), fenrir ( tenebrae, he is only an emblem and doesn’t appear ingame ), shiva ( another unnamed asian-like region ), ramuh ( another unnamed region ), carbuncle, titan.
- Gralea is explorable, it’s inspired by manchester. Solheim has arabian like locations. Accordo is linear. Insomnia palace is the final dungeon.
- Stella becomes playable after Prompto’s death
- no outfits and DLC. No manual driving. No regalia type.
IMO I’d believe this leak. Mostly because it actually references shit that otherwise makes 0 sense in the actual game we got. Like, without Ardyn’s plan in this, the Lucis Caelums just happen to really like embroidered skulls and dressing in black for no reason ( it’s still their family crest somehow ), but the original Vs13 plot had Insomnia be a city that worshipped Etro and death from the beginning, hence all their insignias and crests being what turns out to be Etro’s Skull.
Prompto being a traitor cashes in that reveal about him being an MT. The game is like “Oh, I’ve been tortured for a while in this dungeon, also I wanna tell you guys I’m a Nif/MT” and the bros are like “Ok so?” which, yeah, they’re all great friends but that’s stretching it a little. Totally anticlimactic. Him betraying Noctis would’ve made more sense considering what he was put through. I was kind of expecting it.
Gladio is obvious. The dude kept acting like a lil bitch in XV anyway, and I’m pretty sure Brotherhood had the whole bit about him being okay with Noct as a friend but doubting his ability to be a good king, plus they pull it with his dad and Noct’s dad so it’s a parallel. Except Gladio does take a bullet for him and makes good on the “Amicitias are shields for the Lucis Caelums” thing instead of him vowing to protect Noctis and then casually pushing his liege to his death and being shitty to blind!Iggy on the side.
Iggy being 100% best boy material is legit though. No more comment on that.
