This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.

"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?

"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?

"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??

What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just “they know they’re safe now.” Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.

as a follow up to my infamous let's-go-scream-into-the-void post. the very bright brightside of being in a fandom that inspires you, and full of people I deeply admire, is that at a certain point you want to learn to do your own thing.

I've never been a creative person in my life (except for the occasional oc writing) and in the span of five months I've picked up drawing, sewing, and embroidery.

storytime of That Time I Impaled My Finger! (two days ago)

for context. I thrifted a jacket suspiciously similar to one Annatar wore in a @atane-is-here fanart from last year. And, since I already own a copious amount of eye-shaped jewellery I thought, why not practice sewing and make a complete outfit?

I never really sewed clothes from scratch. I can mend clothes just fine, but that's it. Found a simple enough pattern for slit pants, found some old white curtains, and got to work.

and it was going well. What if sewing was my hidden talent all along, this is not as atrocious as expected. just in time to commit acts of hubris, in true Sauron-adjacent fashion.

long story short I start chatting with my grandma, who is doing her own thing on the other side of the room, I half turn around to look at her, I put my finger under the needle, said needle pierces all the way through it.

my sewing machine can act the part more than I ever will, it seems.

bonus: my grandma starts understandably freaking out. I start freaking out too, but not because I have a needle stuck in my index, no. Because what if the fabric doesn't come clean. What if I have to start again because it stays stained like that. And now I have to clean everything and change the needle. Horrible news.
