Happy 84th Birthday to the wonderful Jane Goodall, my heroine, my idol and one of my most favorite people on Earth. On days of hopelessness and too many sad animal news, I find shelter in her books and teachings, her always hopeful words and positivity - she inspires me and so many others, amongst them very young children, to keep fighting and "speaking out for those who cannot speak for themselves." ✨ And now, with this very special birthday post and the dear face of Jane, I'm joining in @elleluna 's and @lindsayjeanthomson 's #the100dayproject too!!! 🎉🎉This is the first year I'm joining in and I'm so excited to take part! Happy Easter Friday and Weekend to you all dear friends! May you have a lovely and peaceful holiday ♡ filled with little bunnies and beautiful Easter eggs! This one was a traditional Easter egg I brought from Hungary ❤ Painting Easter eggs is such a great tradition there, they even attach tiny horseshoes on the blowed out, empty eggs with tiny needles and itty hammers and the eggs don't break! Catching up with #marchmeetthemaker Day 21 - Stories : A day in the life (you can find the photos in my stories or in the highlights folder I created for the purpose, titled 'A day of mine' ♡) and Day 25 - Being a maker means.. _________________________ For me, being a maker means the way to return to my childhood self, to my core and to my roots, to what I loved the most as a little girl, and what I still love the most now. 🐻 This little bear is the first bear I ever made, when I was 5 or 6 (He's about 25 now!) At that time, I had a wonderful teacher in the kindergarden who loved crafting and invented the loveliest projects one could imagine - she was my very own Mary Poppins ♡ and however she spent just a few months with us to then move to an other place (just as Mary Poppins, right?:) she founded in me that inmense love and joy I feel for crafting and making, and made me realize how much I enjoyed everything about creating things with my own hands... I still think a lot of her and I give thanks every time I do - because she gave me the biggest gift, a gift for the whole life, by showing me what I truly loved and what (I truly believe) I came to this world to do...♡ . Beatrix Potter 🌹 Ophelia 🌹 She asked for this name, with all her soft elegance, then she packed her tiny luggages, filled them up with rose and white blossoms, hugged me tight and left for her big journey - she has to be crossing the ocean by now, together with her little sister Peach; excited to see new places and meet their new home:) 🛫 here, it's still all about bunnies 🐰🐰 and curious bunny ears, but for tomorrow I'm planning something slightly different - I want to try and bake a traditional hungarian Easter bread♡ and paint some Easter eggs too to then hang them up around the house! 💜💕🐰 Do you have any special traditions about Easter? Trying to catch up with #marchmeetthemaker as I missed all the second half..🙈 So this goes for Days 20, 22 and 26 : Tools & materials, Sketchbook & Books, podcasts and blogs! 🌸For my embroidery portraits I use DMC embroidery threads organized onto little clothespin bobbins ♡ there's a tiny haberdashery just below our house and mostly I go there for all my embroidery supplies, ribbons and laces and sometimes also for advice, as they know me so well by now!:) 🌸Sketchbook: I don't have any! I never make sketches of my teddies and dolls before the sewing process (I just imagine them and can see all the details clearly in my head) but I do make little drawings of the finished animals sometimes and also of random things that inspire me, always on tiny scraps of paper; the leftovers from what I use for wrapping or cutting out patterns. 🌸Books: I'm an old soul and since I can remember I have always been in love with books. Hi my dear friends, how are you all? I'm sorry I disappeared so suddenly and was completely absent during these past few days - I've had a very dear friend visiting me this weekend and we were spending time together & celebrating her not-so-long past Birthday together ♡ Yesterday, as a special gift for her, we went to a mug-painter café here in Madrid; a small, familiar place where the walls are full of white ceramic mugs, kettles, vases and pots, waiting for someone to paint them. We made this mug together - first I drew her two doggies (Chota and Sandía♡) and then we painted them, creating this adorable little mug while having so much fun together! She said it was the best Birthday present ever ♡ and that also it was a session of total brain cleaning and the loveliest freeing experience! And that is the magic about crafting, isn't it? Crafting is a therapy, a hobby, a passion, a dream, a career - for so many of us, creating with our hands is an essential part of life. But how wonderful it would be if everyone discovered this kind of magic and stillness? #marchmeetthemaker Days 18-19 Inspiration & Couldn't live without ♡ Nature! 🌳🍃🦎 My inspiration mostly comes from Nature - however I can spend way less time in there than I would like to.. I also love Pinterest!! you can find me & my inspirational boards there as Brotherwolf Handmade or pinterest.com/brotherwolfmade - pinning everything from bear-making to sustainable living, and the cutest animal photos!:) And what would it be I couldn't live without? Apart from Nature, there's something else. If you swipe to the last photo you can see - it is exactly the same thing I answered 2 years ago to the same question when participating in the #marchmeetthemaker challenge:) There are of course so many things I couldn't imagine my life without..but this one is probably the most important and the most basic to me - and I'm so happy I could keep it in my heart untouched, even if I'm not a child anymore..♡ And finally, it felt just right to welcome Lady Spring with this dear little photo I made of Archie back at home! #marchmeetthemaker Day 16 : helper -- my dear little Boci! He keeps me company all day long, here and there and everywhere ♡ He loves sleeping on the top of me when I'm in the biggest rush (obviously, to teach me some mindfulness;), he lets me kiss his nose a couple of trillion times per day (kissing dog noses is highly therapeutic!🙃:) and drags me out of the house when he feels I already worked enough 😌🤣 and it's time for a little walk!:) He makes me so so happy just with his presence ❤ and he inspires me every day!! of course I have other, not less important helpers too!! ; my boyfriend Oliver, who makes it possible for me to chase my dream day by day (and so well tolerates my creative mess invading the entire house:), my Brother, who believes in me & my project and celebrates with me every little milestone, my Mom who supports me no matter what and my Dad, who starts to accept that his daughter doesn't (and probably won't ever) want a 'normal' job 🙈 and that is quite a big step! (side note: he has about a dozen of my works hanging on his office/home walls ❤ and he keeps asking for more every time I make something new:) and I can not forget about my friends, physical and online ♡ and this amazing community here!! You all give me so much love and kindness that helps me keep dreaming and making, no matter what! 🤗😙 And now, let's spread some love! #marchmeetthemaker - catching up on Days 8 and 12 (Flatlay & Packaging) I love making all my packages unique, by adding tiny details, a touch of magic and lots of love ♡ and like that, making the opening of these packages just as special as the little gift waiting in their inside:) For wrapping up my bears and embroideries I use mostly white tissue paper (or other, matching colours) and brown kraft paper on the outside. #marchmeetthemaker Day 14 : Dreams and plans I'm getting back to the challenge after a few days of absence, to talk about my plans and dreams ♡ I have so many of them! - but I must admit, I'm way better at dreaming than at planning. Planning ahead and setting goals is something I'm learning on the go, and I believe I'm getting better and better at it as time pass and I gain more and more experience 🙌 For this year, I've set up some important dream-goals I want to reach; such as opening a YouTube channel, starting to sell patterns and make tutorials, or rebranding Brotherwolf Handmade and creating a new look and logo for this little pack:) I also plan new product lines, new bears and embroideries - and I have some very big dreams too, for a further future. One of these secret dreams is, to write a book one day and then illustrate it too (a dream I have since forever I think!), all about animals, and to make a Calendar with my cutest beary photos ♡ In the meantime, I want to keep drawing attention on important issues, such as the palm oil conflict, endangered species, global warming or plastic oceans - and help to raise empathy for animals and care for the environment. Sometimes I stop and think that I'm already living a dream, because I can do what I love. Feeling that day by day, I'm slowly getting closer to the dream of being able to make a living of what I love. And giving thanks for it. Hope there is still a long way to go, for Brotherwolf Handmade and for me too, lots of dear little critters to create and lots of stitches to stitch. And hope you're going to walk this way with us, towards new horizons and all these big dreams:) Now I would love to hear yours! Sorry for disappearing a little, I'm busy working on new things:) I promise I'll try to catch up on the #marchmeetthemaker prompts too - but for now, some fun facts about orcas! 🖤 Did you know that orcas or killer whales: 🐬are not whales? They belong to the dolphin family Delphinidae & they're the world's largest dolphin species 🐬are highly social & they're living, hunting and traveling in family groups called pods which are the most stable of any animal species? These groups are headed by the oldest female & can consist of as many as five generations of killer whales (to read more: link in bio♡) 🐬that the name killer whale is the mistranslation of the 18th century Spanish name 'asesina-ballenas' which means literally 'whale killer'? 🐬there are 7 types (!) of killer whales that might be considered subspecies or possibly even species because of their distinctions in appearance, diet and niches? 🐬orcas can be identified from their dorsal fins? Nicks, scratches and tears on the fin are unique,just as the gray/whitish pattern in the patch (saddle patch) behind the dorsal fin! 🐬they have their own language and is one of the most complex in the animal kingdom? Each pod has its own dialect of calls, which the young ones learn from their mothers 🐬they feature strongly in the mythologies of indigenous cultures, pictured mostly as the souls of humans? 🐬they have the ability to sleep with just one side of the brain? (they cannot completely go to sleep because they have to go up to the surface to breath) 🐬orcas are one of the only 3 animal species on the planet to go through menopause? Have you read my new blog post about some of the most amazing matriarchal societies in the animal world? For International Women's Day, I wrote about orcas, elephants and bonobos and their venerable female leaders maintaining a peaceful and well functioning coexistence♡ *link to the blog post in my bio:)* Then I couldn't resist and made this little portrait of two orcas, mother and daughter! #marchmeetthemaker Day 9: How it's made (&Day 8 - Flatlay, because of course I missed it🙈) I thought I'd show you the process of making a little bunny - as lately I'm busy making bunnies!🐰💕 (they will be up for adoption this weekend!♡:) My process starts with creating the pattern; by experimenting with different head, gusset and body shapes & finding the one I love, by a trial and error process. Usually I play with that part during days, till I find the 'perfect' shape and pattern for the little bear or bunny:) The next step of the process is cutting out the pattern! With this faux fur I must wear a mask 😷 because tiny fur particles are everywhere and if not, I can't breathe!:) This part takes about half an hour, it is slow, because you must pay attention on the direction of the fur when drawing & cutting the pieces out, trying to cut just the base of the fabric but not the hairs of the fur itself..The next step is sewing the pieces together - I sew all my bears only by hand, so it is also a bit slow (3-4 hours) but very meditative too; it's one of my favourite parts! ♡ Then it's turning the pieces out and stuffing (another hour or 1,5 - thankfully I discovered the straw method not so long ago so now it goes a bit easier...but still, I'm not quite fond of this part!🙈) After that, trimming. When the fur is too long, I must cut it short - another 1,5 - 2 hours, because it has to be made very perfectly! Then sewing everything together (I don't use disc joints by now, but I'd love to try them in the future!), then embroidering the little face ♡ and ready! In total, making a little bear or bunny can take me between 7-10 hours (this faux fur takes much more time than a woolen mix fabric or the upholstery fabric I used with little Valentina bear), but I enjoy it as nothing in the world (well yes, I love embroidery just as much too😍🤗) I left some more photos in my stories & sent out the Newsletter too this morning!
