Sometimes I watch a clip of the show again and I’m like oh yeah actually Sam was the one who rarely spoke about his emotions and the idea of him being the emotionally intelligent one is just because sams way of coping is intellectualizing his feelings and distancing himself from actually feeling his emotions when he talks about them.
Like sams much more of a compartmentalizer than dean because Sam develops the ability to just store shit away or like talk about his emotions like a thing that’s separate from himself and he has so much experience disassociating that he often times just filters out the actual feeling behind negative emotions even when acknowledging something objectively awful whereas dean has no compartmentalization in his feelings but instead suppresses, he doesn’t ever stop feeling his feelings so they all just bubble and fester inside of him and he just ends up a leaky faucet of emotion that he only knows how to express with anger because that’s the only emotion he’s had that’s kept him alive through all his pain and fighting. Oh yeah.
