This song immediately reminded me of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Picture this:
Lucy Gray, alive, singing in whatever forest she is about her memories of Snow and the fact that she knows he intented to kill her.
« I didn't have it in myself to go with grace
And you're the hero flying around, saving face »
The way she used the snake as a distraction for her to leave // How Snow is always viewed as the hero, looking out for Sejanus for example.
« And I can go anywhere I want »
« Anywhere I want, just not home »
This is pretty self-explanatory, she can never go home to the Covey, to District 12 or anywhere near civilization at the risk of being recognized and hunt by Snow.
« And when you can't sleep at night
You hear my stolen lullabies »
I think this is the most gorgeous part of the song and the most hauntingly close to Lucy Gray and Snow. He is still haunted by her, it’s guaranteed he thinks of her but doesn’t want to. He can’t stand hearing The Hanging Tree song. Because it’s Lucy Gray, because it’s Sejanus, because it’s District 12 and his own mistakes.
There are so many other lyrics that relate to them but these are the lines that stuck with me! What do you think ?
