Behold! The world’s strongest 100% human 12-year-old girl!

Piss her off enough and she’ll either bust your kneecaps or die trying.

She thinks her grandpa was raised by dolphins and also may or may not still believe in Santa Claus.

Constantly dunks on her roommate/adoptive dad.

Her dream world in-game is referred to as PSYNCIN’ IN THE PaiN and if that doesn’t clue you in to how much this girl goes through over the course of less than a week, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Mizuki must have been about five years old, or maybe six. Shoko was being firm with her, more so than was appropriate with a child so young. "Clean your room, Mizuki. Now," she had ordered after a single barely there attempt at being patient with her daughter had failed.

"I don't wanna!" the little girl fussed. It wasn't really that she didn't want to, but rather that she couldn't. Her body refused to cooperate, but at such a tender age, she didn't understand that and could only express it as an outright refusal to obey.

"Mizuki-"

"I don't wanna!!!"

The following moments happened so fast that there was only before it happened and after. The sharp sting against Mizuki's face blended with the hard, dull impact against her bottom when she fell. It took a few seconds before she tried, but she made her way back on her feet, standing up on shaky little legs, trembling harder the more time that went by. She trembled and shook, her lips too beginning to quiver. A squeaky little whimper forced itself out of her throat.

She tried to say something, but it got lost in the midst of her sobs.

She could only think about how her mother had just hit her.

And then, for the crime of being so utterly distraught that she couldn't hear what her mother was screaming at her, Shoko hit her again.

"Hey, Iris!" Mizuki leans forward, looking intensely at the pink-haired girl, eyes narrowed in a laser-focused gaze.

Iris recoils reflexively, then blinks dumbfoundedly once the initial shock wears off. "Whoa, someone's pumped up."

"Do you like Ota?"

"Where's this coming from all of a sudden?? I mean, of course I like him. He's a great friend!"

"No, I mean the other kind of like! The kind of like that makes people wanna... kiss." Mizuki wrinkles her nose, saying that last word like it's some kind of swear.

"Mizuki... He's... more like a brother. He's not really someone I would kiss," Iris replies, shifting uncomfortably in her seated position on the steps of Ikume Shrine.

"Yeah, I know."

Iris tilts her head to the side, confused. "Why'd you ask then...?"

"Because he thinks you like him!" Mizuki exclaims. "Don't you think you should tell him?? Just let him down easy."

"Ota's a smart guy, he'll figure it out sometime. Just give him some time. It's better if he puts the pieces together himself, I think."

Iris isn't able to meet Mizuki's stare. Mizuki knows that Iris is just making excuses. The truth is that she's too nice to tell him. That's obviously it! And so Mizuki nods to herself, satisfied with the explanation she's come up with. "I guess..." she finally says.

"Anyway, hey!" Iris chirps, "Enough of that! There's this action movie coming out soon that I think you'll like..."

Renju's—Mizuki's father's—office was crisp, clean, and professional. There were no loose papers strewn about, everything was neat and organized, and even Renju's desk was kept looking brand new, a no doubt expensive work of lacquered cherry, polished to a high gloss.

"Are you comfortable?" Renju frets, "Is the chair too hard? Do you need a cup of water? Or-"

"I-It's okay, Daddy. I'm fine," Mizuki reassures awkwardly from atop the well-cushioned seat facing her father's desk.

He fidgets slightly. Not so much with his body, but with his hands. He steeples his fingers, pressing them closer together, then releasing that pressure... Over and over he does this.

"How's school? Do- Are you sure you don't want some wa-"

"School's fine," she says shortly, lying.

His expression relaxes somewhat, and he's even able to manage a brief smile. "That's good."

He doesn't need to know that she got called to the principal's office today for standing up to a bully picking on one of her classmates—by dislocating his jaw. Yeah... He barely asks about her anyway, Mizuki thinks. Things are fine that way.

Daddy doesn't need to know and you know what? Neither does-

"- Date?"

"Wha...?"

"Are you sure you're okay, Mizuki?" Renju asks, though his distress feels less like it's because he's worried about his daughter and more like he's stressed because he doesn't know what he's doing.

"I told you, I'm fine," she mutters mildly. "I just spaced out a bit."

He doesn't look entirely convinced, but he appears to accept her explanation. "How are things going with Date?" he repeats.

She's not sure, actually. He doesn't ever yell at her or complain about every little thing she does or anything like that. If anything, he... takes care of her and treats her like a person. Even if he barely talks to her, he treats her the way a parent should.

... The way Mom and Daddy don't.

But she can't bring herself to say it. It's not their fault, after all.

Mom's stressed out all the time and Daddy's just... busy. He's always busy. So then... why can Date...?

She can't make sense of it in her head.

After a silence that lasts far too long, Mizuki shrugs and offers the only response she can think of:

"I like it there. Everything's going alright."

She says it and the words come strangely easily, but even now, she's not sure how true that last statement has ever been.

Yep, that got his attention alright.

Mizuki folds her arms and closes her eyes for a few moments as she feigns thoughtfulness. “IIIIIII dunno...” she says, sounding a little unsure, then tells him, “I could get in trouble, but... Alright, I guess I could tell you. But you didn’t hear it from me!”

Making a show of looking back and forth with shifty eyes, she whispers a short, simple phrase:

“Tax evasion.”

“I know the juiciest, nastiest swear of all time. It’s so bad, the only people I hear saying it are adults... But oh well! I guess there’s no helping it. If he can’t swear, he can’t swear.”

“mizuki. it will be OK.”

firm, and sure. it’ll be okay.

She snaps, “I know it will, geez!” But it takes no time at all for her to look like she had burned herself on the stove.

“... I’m sorry. It’s just been really hard,” she says softly. “First Mom and Daddy were... were killed, you know? And then everything calmed down for a little while after the case was over, but it was just for a few months. Now I’m here. And I’ve been all alone. Until now, I guess.”

She pauses, hesitates, for a good moment, “Why can’t things just be normal for more than a few months at a time?! Is it really too much to ask to not have to feel like being happy is some kind of warning that everything’s about to come crumbling down all over again...?”

And then the fire suddenly returns to her eyes. “Oh yeah. And I got shot! That... stupid Saito shot me! In the leg!! That sucked!!!” She crosses her arms in a huff. “At least I got to give him a piece of my mind first,” she grumbles.

Mizuki looks excited... But, soon realizing that Date is very likely to not be with Aiba, her expression drops a little.

“... Who needs that nasty old fart anyway...?” she grumbles, her expression more of a pout now than anything else.

“Yeah!” Her response is enthusiastic. “Don’t get me wrong, he’s a lot like Date, but he’s actually not a bad guy. He’s friendly and nice, and I think there’s still hope for him. He acts really weird with Iris though. Like uncomfortable-weird. She knows he like-likes her, but she’s way too nice to tell him that she’s not into him. Heck, I don’t think I have it in me to tell him either... Oh well! I’m sure he’ll figure it out someday anyway. At least I hope so...”

"Date's a pervert and a creep," she huffs. "He's weird and irresponsible and... yeah, I miss him. He acts like a freakazoid all the time, but even if he messes up... a lot... he's really nice and he takes good care of me. I just kinda wish he would actually try to talk to me more... I want to feel like I can tell him things and like we can just talk things out when we fight, but... we're not there yet. Maybe we'll get there someday though. If I can ever go home..."

👀 + do you still blame yourself for what happened to your mom and dad?

"... Yeah. No...?" Mizuki pauses for a good, long minute. "... Actually, yeah. Sometimes. It's really hard, you know? Mom..." And then she's silent for another moment, trying to figure out what words to use.

"Mom yelled at and hit me whenever I wasn't being a good girl. Sometimes I start thinking about whether or not I'm doing something bad because no one's yelled at or hit me for anything, not in a long time. It makes me nervous sometimes, that it hasn't happened in so long. Being hit by mom always hurt and I don't like being yelled at either, but how else am I supposed to know if I'm being bad? If I'm being punished, it's because I did something bad. It just makes sense. And I mean... I can tell when I'm doing something that's wrong, but what if I do something bad and don't know that it's wrong?!"

And then she's quiet again, for a much longer time now, wiping at her eyes with her sleeves in an attempt to hide the tears she feels wanting to form. It almost seems like she's already done answering, but then she says one last thing: "... Sometimes when I think about it, I feel like... like I should be hit for letting Mom die like that. And then I should be hit again for letting the same happen to Daddy. I should... Right...?"

abatina :   is there anything in life your muse has changed their mind about over time   ( due to becoming more educated on the topic ,   certain experiences  ,   etc .) , or that they   would   change their mind about under certain circumstances ?

[Mizuki, being so young, doesn't have a great deal of life experience, so there's not much she's really changed her opinion on. She's certainly open to change and changing her mind though. She once received a stuffed toy as a gift that she initially wrote off as ugly, but over time came to love it and even find it cute.

As she grows and further matures, she very well might come to better understand Date's (her adoptive father) advice to her when he trained her some years back and furthermore realize that there's more to winning a fight than sheer, unrelenting strength. Just for instance.]

[When the grief is new, about as well as you could expect from most adults, and better than you would normally expect from someone her age. She's quick to withdraw, shut down, and go silent, rebelling and displaying aggression towards those she doesn't trust and eagerly clinging to those that she does. However, she can usually pull herself up by her bootstraps quickly. At that point, she's still going through her mourning process and is very much still feeling the pain of her loss, but she's able to go about her normal daily routine with little difficulty otherwise.

In fact, if you didn't know or otherwise didn't mention or remind her of what happened, you might almost be none the wiser to how she's feeling about it. And even if you did remind her, her apparent response would amount to little more than brief annoyance. Though if the mentions continued, she'd almost certainly lash out at you.]
