sweet heat // nico & armin
NICO NODDED HER HEAD IN UNDERSTANDING. IT MUSTâVE BEEN OVERWHELMING FOR HIM. she, too, had the same issue when she first went to a candy store at the tender age of eleven, her brother and mother and father all looking around with her for the perfect thing that her brother had wanted. she ended up getting chocolate for herself, and her brother got a whole chest of candy, because he wanted it. she asked for a second chocolate bar at that point, and her mom and dad had said no, making her gut clench up and feel utter despair. so whenever she had the chance, she would go to the candy store to have the candies she wasnât allowed to have when she was younger.
âhmmmm.. you like watermelon and strawberries, right? you should get this!â she walked over to an area with flavored sugar, showing off the machine, âif you get the candied sugar in this, you can get both of them as well as other flavors! but if thatâs too sweet for you, nico recommends you get a packet of watermelon bubblegum and strawberry bubblegum, one each! or, thereâs a bunch of ring pops!â she chattered on about the different selections easily, as if it were second nature.
With Nicoâs recommendations in mind, ocean-filled eyes examined the wide array of candy before him. Packs of bubblegum mixed with ring pops and a side of candied sugar? Just thinking about powdered flavored sugar seemed like a bad idea, though the vibrant colors and fun flavors dissipated any possibility of potential mishaps. The prospect of frozen yogurt deflated as items like gummy watermelons and sour strawberry belts enticed him further. Following the girl to the machine, he felt that the idea of getting both was a disaster waiting to happen. It was neither the price nor the type of sweets offered that concerned him; rather, the sheer number of options hindered his decision making process. While tempting, he was not too interested in going to the hospital to treat an excess of sweet compounds in his body.
Setting the yogurt cup aside, he looked to the girl, a mixed expression taking over his features. âBoth sound interesting,â he said, briefly looking back at the row of candies confined to plastic containers. Picking up a nearby candy bag, he stared at the machine before slowly pulling the lever to the strawberry-flavored sugar. As he applied more pressure to the handle, he was met with a giant puff of salmon colored dust. Releasing the switch with a panicked motion, he noted the mass of fine powder collected at the bottom. Sighing, he turned to the girl, a sheepish expression upon his face. âIs it supposed to look like this?â
