I don't know if you've played/watched it but if/once you have, could you type the characters of the video game What Remains Of Edith Finch (the titular Edith and anyone else who gets enough screen time to type)?
I freakin love that game, it’s one of my favorites. I’ve played it like twenty times but NATURALLY it hasn’t been recently so I’m shooting from the hip here. There are also things about the format that blah blah blah ANYWAY. I’m going to skip the youngest children (Calvin, Molly, and Gregory, and also Milton, because, well. I haven’t played The Unfinished Swan yet). That having been said I now present: the Saddams Family (snap snap).
I think Edith (Jr.) is INTP. She returns home out a desire to know, to understand the inexplicability of her family and its apparent curse. That’s what she most wants to pass on: knowledge and truth. Also, after much contemplation, she draws conclusions that life is pretty random, there is no real plan or order to the universe, which is a really NP way to look at things.
Lewis is probably INFP. He seems especially morose and withdrawn, which is fair, and deals with his problems through escapism. Rather than searching for objective meaning or understanding, he creates an idealized world that provides him with the things he craves in real life, ultimately choosing to “inhabit” this new world instead of reality.
I remember while I was playing thinking Dawn was ISFP, though I’m not certain if/how I ruled out ESFP. Anyway, Dawn tends to act on impulse. She is so determined to avoid confronting the truth of her family that she tries to bury it and run away from it. Also, in the hunting flashback, she becomes very emotional about shooting the deer, which suggests a sensitivity and value for life which is her own and clearly not from fatherly influence.
Sam is… ESTJ? Military, strict, very invested in family including forced bonding, not terribly empathetic of Dawn’s discomfort with his chosen activity.
Gus is tricky and I probably shouldn’t even bother trying, but I’m going to hazard a guess and say ESTP. What we do know is that he’s not shy about his opinions, is disobedient, and makes bad life choices out of spite. And you can’t spell spite without ESTP.
I’m going to say Walter is ISFJ. His primary concern is safety, to the point of living in complete isolation in order to hide from the death that stalks his family. He also likes routine, going through the same set of activities each day for decades. He feels and worries deeply, and is not proud to be the last of his siblings left standing.
Barbara is… ESFP? She’s a child star known best for her iconic scream, and she’s neither shy nor cowed. All she wants is to be remembered.
Shot in the dark that Sven is ISTP, based on his proclivity for building things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And as for Edie, ESFJ. I know, I know, the matriarch is ESFJ, really did some mental gymnastics there. But she is clearly a mothering type, sometimes to the point of becoming obsessive and stifling. Her will is iron and looms large over all the successive generations of Finches. She has a fantastic memory for detail, which makes her an excellent storyteller. She also clings to the past, leaving the rooms of the dead in pristine condition and holding tight to the specter of the “curse” of the family.
Thanks for the ask, hope this satisfies!
