It's been awhile since I've posted. I've been working a lot flying here and there, but I'm back to work on finalizing mixes for Speculative: Futures, Origins, and Everyday Staples. Hopefully all the mixing will be done by the end of August. Stay tuned.

Second performance of Speculative: Futures, Origins, and Everyday Staples: The Present recorded live from E-12 Olvera Street in Los Angeles on 6/22/13. Performed by Emery C. Martin, Robert Dansby, Kerstin L. Hovland, MinerOne, Tec9, and featuring Samuel Bruce's, "The Walls Are Full Of Money" and Sean Buckelew as the attacks. Created with Processing, Ableton Live, and various web scraped data sources for Bitcoin, copper, and other commodity prices and exchange rates.
Note this recording is missing the last few minutes. You'll have to stay tuned for those ;-)
Tonight is the closing of Speculative: Futures, Origins, and Everyday Staples. There will be 1 last performance about the speculative future. The closing reception will open at 6:30pm and the performance will begin at 7.
We will also be adding 1 new piece for tonight, “Copper is King." It will be a micro market using bits of copper wire as private currency that can be uses to purchase wine and beer.
One unfortunate note, we have not made it to our goal of mining enough Bitcoin to purchase a churro for the artists involved. Maybe some kind hearted Bitcoiners out there will contribute to the cause and get the artists some churros. Do it for the artists in what may be the first ever gallery show about Bitcoin. We Have Ticker for the Future
For this weeks section on the speculative future of bitcoin we will be adding in some news ticker. Enjoy.
Status update. We're almost at 3300 blocks. Probably need about 6000-7000 to hit our target for the Churro purchase.
"That's Some Trippy Shit, Bro"
One visitor this morning had this to say, "That's some trippy shit, bro. What a weird time we live in." Yesterday, we had a Canadian IT guy wander in who chatted for awhile and said he wanted to link up on Linkedin and Skype sometime when he gets back to Canada. Also, yesterday we had a German mathematics PhD student come in and stay for a long time talking about the currency, art, local German politics, surveillance, and programming. He was quite pleasant.
MinerOne is mining away. Almost, 3000 successfully submitted blocks of work. That works out to about 7 thousandths of a Bitcoin. We got set back after the BitMinter pool sustained a heavy DDoS attack. Sadly that means we likely won’t make it to that churro for the participating artists. So, dropping this QR code and address here for any Bitcoiners who may want to donate some bitcoin to the cause.

Preparing for Week 2. Cone of evil reverb. Kerstin Hovland and Robert Dansby prepping for the the Thursday night show.
Looks like the mining operation for the churros will be disrupted. The Bitminter Bitcoin mining pool that MinerOne is in is getting DDoS'd right now and has been taken down. Things with this show continue to get more and more real with every passing day.
First performance of Speculative: Futures, Origins, and Everyday Staples: Origins recorded live from E-12 Olvera Street in Los Angeles. Performed by Emery C. Martin, Robert Dansby, MinerOne, Tec9, and featuring Samuel Bruce's, The Walls Are Full Of Money. Created with Processing, Ableton Live, and various web scraped data sources for Bitcoin, copper, and other commodity prices and exchange rates.
The complete setup left to right.
YHL Financial Board aka OunceParser v11L - Processing application that parses Ounce.me's XML feed for Bitcoin exchange rates. Updates every 5 minutes with new financial data and does a live rate conversion for how much it would cost in Bitcoin to purchase a churro from the neighboring Mr. Churro location. Blocks submitted is the live tally of blocks that have been successfully submitted from the ongoing Bitcoin mining operation. Application also maps the financial statistics to dilfferent frequency ranges and sends out the data via OSC over the shows local network.
MinerOne - Prepared Intel SR1400 1U server with AMD Radeon 6450. MinerOne runs the YHL Financial Board and the BitMinter Bitcoin mining client. MinerOne continuously mines Bitcoin 24/7 for the duration of the show. All proceeds will go towards attempting to purchase a churro from the neighboring Mr. Churro location for participating artists as a "Sweet and tasty artist fee." -YHL
MinerOne Mining Operation - Ubuntu desktop with BitMinter client that is actively mining Bitcoin. Run in expanded view to show visitors the live stats on how many blocks have been mined and submitted for verification along with what a Bitcoin mining client can look like. For every verified block submitted there is a coin drop sound. This is used to update the "Block Submitted" counter on the YHL Financial Board.
Bitchurro Sounds - Generative sound produced by the financial fluctuations of 7 indices related to Bitcoin: MtGOX USD exchange rate, Euro exchange rate, Miner Index, Bitcoin added per day, Bitcoin Market Cap in USD, Total Bitcoin in Circulation, and the Pizza Index. The entire data set is looped and outputs a new tone every 100ms which equates to 5 minutes of real time. A new value for all 7 indices is added every 5 minutes, therefore the data set continues to grow over the course of the show. Additionally every time new data is added all values are re-mapped to account for the change in ranges of values and their relationship to one another. Built in Processing with Minim and OSC.
I think the honey badger just might make an appearance next week.

Week 1: Origins
Tomorrow we open the show but today Robert Dansby and I were running through the first 2/3rds of the set for tomorrow night. The proper speakers are in place and it's sounds good. Final tweaks tonight.
