After those words left Jungkook's mouth, the living room fell silent again. The TV was still on, but neither of you was really paying attention to whatever was playing. You kept staring at Jungkook with an expression you couldn't quite explain, while Jungkook looked far too calm for someone who had just announced that he was no longer taking his girlfriend backstage at a BTS concert simply because her bias happened to be his own hyung.
You blinked once.
Twice.
"...Really?"
Jungkook nodded.
"Yeah."
"...You're really not taking me anymore?"
"Yeah."
"...Because of Jinnie?"
Jungkook immediately corrected you.
"Jin hyung."
"Yeah, Jin."
"Yeah."
You kept staring at him.
For some reason, part of you wanted to laugh. Another part of you genuinely wanted to figure out whether Jeon Jungkook was joking or not.
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah."
"...Really serious?"
"Yeah."
You let out a long sigh.
"...Are you jealous?"
Jungkook didn't answer right away. He simply leaned back against the couch and crossed his arms over his chest.
"...A little."
You immediately laughed.
"A little?"
"Yeah."
"That's not a little."
"It is."
"You're canceling the backstage invitation."
"Yeah."
"That's a lot."
"It's a little."
You honestly didn't know what to do anymore.
After a year together, you knew Jungkook's personality pretty well. He was competitive. Extremely competitive. Whether it was simple games, sports, cooking, or little things that didn't even make sense.
And now… Apparently, he was competitive with his own BTS members too.
Honestly… You found it a little adorable. Very adorable, actually. But seeing how completely serious Jungkook looked made you do your best to hold back your laughter.
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"I'm just a fan."
"Yeah."
"Just a fan."
"Yeah."
"Just a bias."
"Yeah."
"Just someone I like."
"Yeah."
Jungkook nodded several times.
"That's exactly the problem."
You frowned.
"Huh?"
"That's how it starts."
"...How does it starts?"
"Yeah."
You suddenly had a bad feeling.
Jungkook sat up straighter. He genuinely looked like someone explaining a carefully thought-out theory.
"First, you're just a fan."
"..."
"Then you'll go to the concert."
"..."
"You'll see Jin hyung on stage."
"..."
"You know what Jin hyung is like during concerts."
You stayed quiet. Jungkook nodded to himself.
"Exactly."
"Kook..."
"Wait."
He held up a hand.
"You see Jin hyung."
"..."
"You like him even more."
"..."
"Then you're waiting backstage."
"..."
"Then the concert ends."
"..."
"Then Jin hyung comes off the stage."
"..."
"Then you two meet."
"..."
"Then you stare at each other."
"..."
You genuinely couldn't believe where this conversation was going. Jungkook kept going.
"Then Jin hyung sees you."
"..."
"And then he thinks..."
"Kook."
"Wait."
"..."
“Wow, this girl is pretty.”
"Kook."
“She's nice too.”
"Kook."
“She's easy to talk to.”
"Kook."
“She's cute too.”
"KOOK!"
"...Then Jin hyung falls for you."
You froze.
"...Huh?"
"Yeah."
"Then you fall for him too."
"..."
"Then you two start talking."
"..."
"Then you get close."
"..."
"And then..."
Jungkook paused for a few seconds.
"...You leave me."
The room suddenly fell silent. You just stared at Jungkook. Jungkook stared back at you. A few seconds passed. Then...
"...Do you realize how weird you are?"
Jungkook looked offended.
"That makes sense."
"It does not make sense."
"It does."
"It doesn't."
"It could happen."
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"What kind of story is that?"
"It's a possibility."
"It's a hallucination."
"It's preparation."
You really couldn't hold back your laughter anymore.
Jeon Jungkook.
The man who could stand in front of tens of thousands of people on stage without a hint of fear. The man with unbelievable confidence. The same man who was now completely convinced that his girlfriend was going to leave him for Kim Seokjin just because she saw a BTS concert.
"You're weird."
"I'm realistic."
"You're weird."
"I'm being careful."
"You're weird."
"I'm protecting our relationship."
You shook your head, laughing.
"I'm tired."
You stood up from the couch. "I'm going to bed."
But you'd barely taken one step before your hand was gently pulled back.
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"Let go."
"No."
"Kook."
"No."
You turned around. Jungkook was still sitting on the couch, holding onto your hand.
"Come here."
"Kook."
"Come here."
Before you could protest again, he gently pulled you closer. A second later… You were sitting on his lap. Instinctively, you grabbed onto his shoulders to keep your balance.
"Kook!"
"Hm?"
"You scared me."
"Sorry."
"...You did that on purpose."
"...A little."
You let out a long sigh. The two of you were much too close now. You could clearly see the way Jungkook was looking at your face. His hand slowly reached up to fix a few strands of your hair that had gotten messy.
His movements were slow. Careful. Incredibly gentle.
Honestly… Your heart started beating a little faster.
Even after a year together, Jungkook could still make you nervous with simple little gestures like that.
He tucked your hair behind your ear. Then he looked at you for a few seconds.
"Baby."
"Hm?"
"I'm serious."
You smiled softly.
"I know."
"I don't want that."
You started laughing again. Jungkook immediately pouted.
"You're laughing."
"Yeah."
"I'm worried."
"Yeah."
"And you're laughing."
"Yeah."
"Y/N."
"Hm?"
"I'm serious."
Seeing how genuinely upset he looked slowly made your laughter fade. You carefully lifted a hand. Then gently cupped his cheek. Jungkook immediately fell quiet.
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"Do you know..."
"What?"
"...Who do I love?"
Jungkook didn't answer right away.
"You."
"Yeah."
"You."
"Yeah."
"Not Jin hyung?"
You laughed softly. "No."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Not your bias?"
"That's different."
"How is it different?"
You stroked his cheek again.
"A bias is a bias."
"Hm."
"An idol is an idol."
"Hm."
"But the person I love..."
You looked at his still slightly pouting face.
"...the person whose messages I wait for every day..."
"..."
"...the person who makes me laugh..."
"..."
"...the person who shows up just to have dinner with me..."
"..."
"...the person who comes up with weird theories about me running away with Jinnie..."
"Jin hyung."
You couldn't hold back your laughter again.
"Yeah, Jin hyung."
"..."
"...that's you."
Jungkook stayed quiet. Completely quiet. You smiled at the expression on his face.
"You're the one I chose too."
"..."
"You're the one I'm dating."
"..."
"You're the one I walk home with after work."
"..."
"And the person I love..."
You gently stroked his cheek one more time.
"...is still you."
For a few seconds, Jungkook didn't say anything. Then, slowly… The tension in his shoulders finally eased. He lowered his head until his forehead rested against yours.
"...Really?"
You smiled. "Really."
"...You're not going to leave me for Jin hyung?"
You laughed softly. "No."
"...Promise?"
"Promise."
Jungkook let out a long sigh, as if he had just survived the biggest crisis of his life. Then he hugged you gently. Very gently.
"...Thank goodness."
You frowned. "Thank goodness for what?"
"...I was worried."
"Worried about what now?"
Jungkook lifted his head. His expression was still serious, even though his arms didn't loosen around you in the slightest.
"...I was scared I'd end up competing with Seokjin hyung."
You couldn't hold back your laughter anymore.
"You're so weird."
"I'm just being careful."
"That's called being weird."
"That's called loving you."
You shook your head with a small smile. Jungkook was still pouting a little, as if he felt his concerns hadn't been taken seriously at all.
"You're laughing at me."
"Because you're cute."
"I was being serious."
"Yeah, seriously cute."
Jungkook let out a tiny sigh.
"Look."
"What?"
"I'm still pouting."
You studied his face for a few seconds. "...You really are."
"Hm."
"How did that happen?"
"Because someone kept laughing at me."
"Oh."
"Oh."
You couldn't stop smiling. Slowly, you lifted your hands and gently cupped his cheeks.
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"Are you still sulking?"
"...A little."
"A little?"
"...Maybe a lot."
You giggled softly. Then, without saying another word, you leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the lips. It was over in an instant. Just like that.
Jungkook blinked.
You pulled back slightly and watched his reaction. His pout was still there. But… The corners of his lips had started to curl up just a little.
"You're smiling."
"I'm not."
"That's a smile."
"It's not."
"That's definitely a smile."
"It's... almost a smile."
You chuckled.
"There, you're not sulking anymore."
Jungkook thought about it for a few seconds. "...Not yet."
"Huh?"
"That was only one."
You stared at him in confusion.
"So?"
"...It wasn't enough."
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"...Are you asking for another one?"
Jungkook gave a small nod.
"Yeah."
"You're clingy."
"Yeah."
"Aren't you embarrassed?"
"No."
"I thought you were trying to be mature."
"...Grown-ups can ask for things too."
You really couldn't stop laughing.
"Come on."
"Come on what?"
"...One more."
"Kook."
"Just one more."
You shook your head with a smile before giving him another quick peck. The moment you pulled away, Jungkook looked satisfied… ...for about two seconds.
"Hm."
"What now?"
"...I think that still wasn't enough."
"Kook."
"One more?"
"Kook."
"The last one."
"You're lying."
"...Yeah."
"So you were planning to keep asking?"
"Yeah."
"Don't you ever get tired?"
"No."
All you could do was laugh as you lightly patted his shoulder.
"You."
"What?"
"You're so spoiled."
Jungkook grinned widely this time. His pout had completely disappeared.
"Yeah."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"...Because I like it when you're the one making me feel better."
You shook your head, unable to hide your smile. Meanwhile, Jungkook pulled you back into his arms.
"...In that case..."
"Hm?"
"...Don't replace me with anyone else, okay?"
You smiled and rested your forehead against his. "I won't."
"...Not even Seokjin hyung?"
You laughed so hard your shoulders shook.
"Not even Seokjin."
"Thank goodness."
"Feeling better now?"
"...Yeah."
"...Really?"
Jungkook smiled softly.
"...Really."
A moment of silence passed.
Then...
"...But if I start overthinking again tomorrow, can I ask for another kiss?"
"Kook."
"Hm?"
"Were you just looking for an excuse all along?"
"...Maybe a little."
And seeing the small smile that had finally found its way onto his face, you realized something. Sometimes, making Jeon Jungkook stop pouting didn't take a long explanation. He just needed a little reassurance... and to be spoiled a little too.
