I've been reading through Pride Is Not The Word I'm Looking For by @tossawary. It's a big 400 k word epic and I'm not even done with it yet, but the story has really grabbed me by the heartstrings and flung me around with no remorse.

Shen Jiu only has one tea pet and it’s a butt ugly dog-bear thing with big sad eyes Ning Yingying made for him. Apparently it was inspired by the sight of the sect leader waiting outside the bamboo house in the pouring rain. It is one of his most treasured possessions. He loves pouring scalding water on it.
