Cormorant fishing in Yangshuo near Guilin, Guangxi, China. Christian Vaisse
Cormorant fishing is an old tradition in which fishermen use trained cormorants to catch fish.
I can't find any mention of a photographer Christian Vaisse that's not reblogs of this post, but I want to add smth about this guy:
Most cormorant fishermen are essentially historical re-enactors, who post for photos for money. Sort of like the Elmo guys in Times Square, if they dressed up as pilgrims.
Lao Huang, photographed here by Peter Yan, actually grew up doing real cormorant fishing for a living. He's now retired, and does this more as a hobby (although he does make a good income from breeding the birds). As such, he's one of the few remaining authentic links to this pre-industrial fishing technique.

Holy shit, this pack ended up bigger than I thought it would, and I still had so many assets I'd made for this set that I have extras that I can include later as a part 3 bonus pack. This month's big reward pack is my art nouveau room/class assets that I made for Soli. All of these are drawn by me and includes a lineart variant for the assets that I did lineart for (so, when available.) I did some color alts on the stain glass and pattern tiles special for patrons, and there's also two huge new full sized illustration files available for this month as well! Head over to the patreon and grab some goodies. All previous month's packs are still available, including tons of brushes and other transparent illustration assets! Solivaga Patreon - April Rewards
Happy to see this going around again! Speaking of my more extravagant patreon packs, this is still available. You can see it in action through the entire second half of chapter 2, as it was made for the design of Gwenne-Batar's classroom

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:
Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! Brands), Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Olive Garden, Top Golf, Red Lobster, Burger King, etc.
This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.
We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.

to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube
they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!
i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies
Saw these easy to read instructions on Twitter. Stay safe 💚
Also just a handy, DIY air filter in general, if a bit bulky. For a less bulky and cheaper (but also less effective) solution, you can simply tape one filter to the fan, cut a shroud if you'd like.
just FYI, this is quite literally what the climate scientists at my work who specialized in wildfire smoke impacts recommend. it works great, it's cheap to make, and it will make a noticeable impact on your air quality.
i have asthma & keep one of these running in my room perpetually. after I set it up the difference in my sleep quality was pretty much night and day. Dont waste your time on proprietary air filters; SIMPLY bust out the duct tape
