it’s daisy’s world and we’re all living in
[image id: a digital drawing of Daisy D’umpstaire (Dimension 20) on a dark green background. Daisy is a racoon lady wearing a slightly ratty blue walking skirt and a matching jacket, a white blouse, a darker teal neckbow, and an enormous blue hat with garbage and a large yellow flower on atop it. She is looking to her left and smiling slightly, with one hand lifted to her mouth, and her bushy tail curls behind her. The artist’s signature reads [dieanne-arts]. end id]
[image id: a digital drawing of (left to right) langston brown, al matsui, and cat lee from the unsleeping city as teenagers, separated into three panels. the background is white.
langston is a black hispanic human with tan skin. he is standing facing forward with his left hand in the pocket of his jeans. he has curly brown hair with shaved sides and brown eyes. he is wearing a blue shirt with the new york islanders logo on it and light blue jeans. he has a backpack on. the right side of his body is shaded with black. the background of his panel is gold with a white screen tone. there are three gold coins next to his head.
al is a black japanese human with tan skin. she is standing facing left and holding out her right hand. she has curly split-dyed hair, the ride half is blue and the left half is black. her hair is up in two poofs on top of her head. she has brown eyes and is wearing round glasses. she has a septum ring and multiple piercings in her right ear. she is wearing a black choker and a grey gramercy occult society tshirt on top of a fishnet shirt. on the center of her shirt is a gold ring of the zodiac. she has blue ripped jeans on with fishnet leggings underneath. in her right hand there is a glowing blue flame. the right side of her body is shaded with black. the background of her panel is purple with a white screen tone.
cat is a half chinese human with light skin. she is standing facing right, looking up and holding up her fists. she has long wavy black hair and heterochromia. her left eye is green and her right eye is blue. she has freckles and a gold hoop earring in her left ear. she is wearing a lavender jacket over a grey order of the concrete fist shirt. the shirt has a purple and gold yin and yang symbol in the center. she has black jeans on. there is a gold halo over her head. the right side of her body is shaded with black. the background of her panel is pink with a white screentone.
“DREAM TEENS” is written in a bold font over the panels. ‘dream’ is purple ‘teens’ is gold, both words are outlined in black. under each of the panels it says the character’s name in the same font. ‘langston’, ‘al’, and ‘cat’ are in gold; ‘brown’, ‘matsui’, and ‘lee’ are in purple. ‘RIZGUKS’ is written as a watermark in the top left corner in gold and in the bottom right corner in purple. end id]
absolutely obsessed with the idea of the dream team’s kids becoming heroes of the unsleeping city like their parents, so i drew what that might look like! i was inspired by comics like young avengers and runaways for their designs.

On Representation in Dimension 20
Anyone interact!
Hi, I’m Jewish. Ethnically, culturally, religiously- the whole shebang. I also adore Dimension 20. Dimension 20, along with Naddpod and Sirens of the Realms, has sparked my interest in D&D which has brought me so much joy and friendship and community.
I just finished my second rewatch of The Unsleeping City, this time with my mom. She also liked it, and I was happy to show it to her. One of the characters I was most excited to show her was Willy. A Golem who is actually a protector! And is actually Jewish! When I heard Brennan sprinkle Yiddish words into Willy’s vocabulary for the first time, I paused the video and took a full minute to enjoy my excitement. My mom wasn’t overjoyed, though. She was a little off put about Golems portrayal as monsters in dnd as a whole. And in other seasons of Dimension 20. And we had a discussion about Robert Moses.
Robert Moses (1888-1981) was a real life historical figure. He was also a scumbag real estate developer. He was also Jewish. Because he was real, I wasn’t bothered by his depiction as a greedy, money and power-hungry vampire-adjacent villain. Because he was some of those things. But DnD’s mechanics refer to Lich’s Phylacteries as small boxes with evil language scrolls binding their souls. I know phylacteries as small boxes with Hebrew words written inside that are used in daily prayers. I mean, that’s the main definition of the word. So I was confused. With more digging into the etymology, here’s what google says: “late Middle English: via late Latin from Greek phulaktērion ‘amulet’, from phulassein ‘to guard’.” So, it could mean a guarding amulet, which Lich’s phylacteries aren’t. They’re boxes. With secret foreign language scrolls. And the google results for Tefillin/phylacteries is half discussion of how they’re evil horcruxes. Which makes sense in dnd.
This is not the D20 teams fault. I know and respect that they work with sensitivity consultants. I know and respect that Izzy, Brennan’s girlfriend, is Jewish herself. This is not a callout post! I’m not sure what this is other than a conversation starter I suppose.
Someone on Twitter recently said “Brennan creating such diverse characters is so anti white man energy of him and that’s very sexy.” This tweet was roundly criticized; as Brennan has said, this should be expected and not particularly praiseworthy. I do think it’s been wonderful having representation in D20, especially for the LGBT community (of which I am a part.)
I guess I’m making this post because I told someone about how the evil secret power hunger phylactery-ness and they said I was being sensitive and trying to be oppressed, because D20 HAS good representation. This is a person who i haven’t heard say similar things, ever. So I was shaken.
I just want other people on d20 tumblr to share their opinions with me: how should we approach questions of the rules and systems of Dnd as they relate to Dimension 20? Especially now that WOTC is showing their willful disrespect and incompetence... and what do people think about using a real person as a villain in dnd? POC, how do you feel characters of color have been represented? How should we deal with speaking about the challenge to need diverse characters and also have a cis straight white male dm portray them?
I just wanted to comment on this with the release or TUC 2 and say i’m overjoyed with the Jewish representation. Especially with another theme about capitalism and gentrification in New York, this season has handled Jewish characters perfectly. I adored it and will continue to adore it as the story unfolds. Rabbi Mike Salters made me cry because he rocks so much. They even included my favorite golem feature— אמת / מת!
Ms. Heather I'm deep in gay love with you 💖💖

currently obsessed with the fact that cody was manager at hot topic for YEARS. he had to interview and hire people. he had to make a schedule. i know from experience the bar is not high for ending up in a supervisor position in jobs like that, but he still had to be good enough at retail to not only remain employed for a long time but also not be the worst possible option to promote. basically what i'm saying is cody "night angel" walsh has a Customer Service Voice and i want to hear it
finally finishing last week’s Unsleeping City and like. bless you Ally for having Brennan make the Cloisters Unicorn of Unicorn Murder Room fame say the words “spicy pigeon” three times in a row
apparently murph and brennan, in the creation of cody, talked about him maybe being a part of an occult secret society that was within the hot topic which they eventually didn’t go with but. there is absolutely an occult secret society within the nyc hot topics that he just wasn’t invited to because they didn’t think he was cool enough
