Consider this an introduction post, just very very late!

My name is not bug, however most people call me that, and it is a good default. I don't mind any nickname i can actually recognise as my own, and people often refer to me as whatever fictional character I have in my icon at the time. I use any and all pronouns and am masc-leaning nonbinary!

I post literally everything here. Art, personal thoughts, screenshots, random bullshit, everything! It gets a bit messy.

We really need to acknowledge the problem of bug centered blogs being regular victims of harassment. I try very hard to ride the line of not saying/doing things that will get my account of 13 years terminated but it’s like.

The right wing is constantly doing vigilante shit and imposing life, interpersonal, economic, and mental consequences on marginalized folks and those who support them for the crime of existing and being oppressed. They’ll publicly lynch 16 year old Black girls, 19 year old trans girls, burn down abortion clinics, shoot up literally anywhere, destroy/damage houses, and so much more.

And we.. protest and maybe do graffiti. Organize to “vote blue no matter who” type bullshit. We don’t even punch Nazis anymore lmfao. A lot of the non-white organizers and activists who became publicly known for stuff like taking down confederate flags, action in 2020, etc. in the past decade are dead or in jail now, often likely because of vigilante/cop action.

Iunno. I’m one Black tranny cripple and my literal ability to do.. anything, anymore is minimal. But I feel like I’m losing my mind watching almost nothing happen here while elsewhere resisters are literally dismantling weapons factories piece by piece until they can’t function.

And I just know if I hop on Facebook or Twitter and scroll for a couple minutes I’ll see another lynching and no meaningful material action and I’m so fucking tired.

I have a severe phobia of bugs, I do not like them at all, this doesn't mean I kill them on sight, but I literally break down if I see one

The phrasing of your bug post just comes off as insensitive to people with genuine phobias of bugs

I do care about bugs, and our environment, and the good they do, but if I see one, I go into genuine panic, and the edit doesn't really do much for me to feel comfortable since others like me don't "just run away from a bee", it's a deep mental and physical reaction to bugs

Phobias and fears are different things. If i meant phobia id say phobia, but yes, obviously its not the same. As stated in the post, i mean people with a fear of bugs who use it as an excuse to hurt them. And the people i want to help grow are people with a fear of bugs who are able to still hear me out.

One thing im uncomfortably woke about is bugs. And im actively trying to get more uncomfortably woke. By this i mean i DO believe the normalised fear of bugs stems from both government and business propaganda. The start of household pesticide sales coinciding with the boom in insect related horror movies. The promotion of anti intellectualism and anti enviromentalism. If you're scared of bugs, you wont care about saving them. If you dont care about saving them, you wont care about saving our home, since without bugs it cannot be saved. If you dont care about saving our home, the rich can do whatever they want with the chunks of it they continue to destroy.

I WILL calmly and kindly try to help anyone who is afraid of bugs. I will show them my finds, i will explain their importance, i will tell them just how sweet and gentle and friendly they are. And I WILL shoot down any immature loser who believes senseless killing is the only possible response to not liking something.

Get woke. Love bugs.

(apologies for any awkward wording, i'm fighting insomnia and dyspraxia) i don't suppose you have any advice on how to humanely repel bugs? they've been flying in through my window a lot with the current heatwave here + plants right outside my window and it's dangerous for both of us, so i'd rather they just stay outside (tl;dr small unexpected touch or bug flying in my face sends me into a panic attack so.)

i currently have a thing to relocate them outside unharmed, but if i could put something by my window that would keep them from coming in in the first place that would be ideal

things i've heard about that won't work for me personally even if they work overall: - window net - how my window is made i'd have to install it from the outside i'm pretty sure - one of those ultrasonic things - i'm 99% i'd be able to hear it even though most people can't because of sensory issues - lavender scent - sensory issues again

i have heard that citronella might be good but i don't know much about it besides that it shouldn't trigger the sensory issues lavender does

if you have any advice it's much appreciated. even if you want to elaborate on something that doesn't work for me it'll help other people at least thank you :)

I would definitely recommend citronella! I've always found it to be useful and non disruptive. You could always give a citronella candle a sniff at the store to see if the scent bothers you, most large stores will have them in the seasonal section right now. There are other options for citronella besides candles, though some may require online shopping!

If you want to use the plants outside as a barrier, I'd suggest brewing some peppermint tea, leaving cloves in it to infuse, and putting some lemon juice into it then spraying the mix on the plants! It's completely safe and natural but the smells repel most plant dwelling insects while not being strong enough to be noticed unless you actually sniff the plant. Garlic helps too, but that's a more noticeable smell to humans, so you may not be able to with your sensory issues.

Unfortunately with this weather, it is going to be harder to keep bugs outside. I've had the most luck by having my curtains closed whenever my window is open, and by making sure the lights are off whenever I don't need them on.

Side note, id honestly never recommend those sound machines as they can be distressing to local wildlife, pollinators, and people with sensory issues. They may not cause physical harm, but they effect far more than just the bugs you dont want in your house. I remember hearing them as a kid and them making my head hurt 😭 so i completely understand and agree with not wanting one of those
