Update: It’s been a while! So here’s the news: Jack and I broke up. A couple months after Jack proposed, he made it clear that he was scared of a lifelong commitment. I tried to make it work for a few months after his realization because that’s what you do when you make a promise to someone; you try your hardest to make it work. Unfortunately, Jack has an old school mind and he believes he won’t be able to excel in his job with a wife and I am not willing to be in a ldr for another 3+ years or whenever he figures that out. I absolutely respect his beliefs and him as a person and he is still one of the most intelligent, caring and beautiful individuals I have ever met. I’m so thankful for the time we’ve had together, but in hindsight, I realize I was giving up a lot of myself and gaining very little from the relationship. It’s been about 4 months since the breakup and I feel brand new. I have a job in the field I always wanted, incredible friends who have been with me this entire emotional journey and a beautiful family that has let me cry out all the tears that I could. Life is beautifully raw and I’m certain that better things await me-like a distant European adventure with an old flatmate (!).
