Body language is completely unique to every single individual person and the science of body language is almost if not completely unreliable and if I have to listen to one more person claim they can “read” me by my body language I’m gonna flip.
MULTIPLE people in my life have told me they can “tell” I’m “self conscious” because I look at my feet when I walk and they say it like they want me to open up about some social insecurities, like I have some wall they’re about to break down and we’ll have a moment
And I tell them the same truth every single time:
As a kid we had two MASSIVE Holly trees in the backyard and my dad and my uncle, both well meaning but perhaps poor planners, said “yes a great place for a swing set is directly beneath those.”
So they built it there and the issue is that entire section of yard was a Minefield of dried Holly leaves with one final mission before they became dirt which was to Stab themselves into a child’s foot
And being that my siblings and I had some feral rage aversion to wearing shoes, we took to running to the swings on our tiptoes, staring at the ground for the leaves
And to this DAY I still look at the ground when I walk out of habit formed by a decade of that
And NO body language guide and NO BBC Sherlock wannabe would EVER source that
“I can tell you’re lying because you’re playing with your hair.”
I’m playing with my hair because I have ADHD and can’t stay still.
“I can tell you’re lying because you’re looking up and to the side.”
I’m looking up and to the side because I have ADHD and can’t hear you if I’m looking directly at you.
“I can tell…”
shut up shut up shut up shut up
Isn’t amazing how much of neurodivergent body language is considered ‘indications of lying’?
I LOVE THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M SICK OF DENYING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE IS THE ONLY ADAPTATION OF MY WORK THAT TRULY UNDERSTANDS THE CRUCIAL THEMES
#i’m glad this url went to someone who knew what to do with it
When I say “free water, free food, free shelter, free healthcare, free education for everyone” in that “everyone” I even include the people I hate. Too many people get surprised at the idea that I do wish for the people I hate to have better lives.
‘only the people i like should have enough’ is the way we got to here, which is how hardly anyone has enough and we keep making up more and more reasons why the people who don’t have anything deserve it.
I am NOT immune to characters bandaging/stitching/cleaning each others wounds
even though its had some benefits, i really hate how the lines between fandom and entertainment industry are becoming more and more blurred because tiktokers and instagramers can build whole careers off basically being shills for Disney. I hate how when I was growing up in fandom you could post your opinions/make memes/fanart and there was next to zero chance of the creators of the media seeing it. now these companies mine fandom interaction to generate these storyless high budget fan-service media that are just designed to generate money and more fandom interaction. i genuinely find it loathesome that the joy of creating fan stuff has become a commodity. i don’t think its a good thing that there are “professional marvel influencers” who are paid in part by disney to influence fandom. i hate that companies use gifs/fanart/ fan works to promote their content and make money. i hate that shows are edited and adjusted because the production company saw that fans online predicted something. i hate that fans of media post funny predictions and their ideas are stolen by these big companies. i hate that these interactions have fostered a sense of entitlement like, “we posted about how much we loved y character so they shouldn’t have been killed them”. i hate how fans misuse the “social contract” and “queerbaiting” and how it leads to these stupid interviews where creators are asked about fan discourse they have nothing to do with. i hate how younger fans seeking to build influencer careers and clout are so desperate to get endoresement by these companies they’re pushing anti-intellectualism that’s ruined people’s ability criticise media in a normal way. i hate that the unpaid labour of fandom is so well known that it was weaponised in jdepp’s court case to make the world more unsafe for survivors of abuse. i hate how late-capitalism means we can’t even enjoy being a fan of something without the intervention of coorperations. while there has been some progress in terms of representation because of corporate interaction with fan culture, i still ultimately hate how late-capitalism is ruining sincere storytelling and how we interact with storytelling.
thinking about how my history teacher was talking about the french revolution one time and he wrote "bourgeoisie" on the board and said raise your hand if you think you can pronounce this and i raised my hand and he looked at the hammer and sickle pin on my backpack and said "ill come back to you"
I think it’s very funny that the premise of a lot of sequels is “remember the brave compassionate heroes you knew and loved? well… what if they were shitty parents”
I do not want my fantasy media to be realistic. I want my fantasy media to be convincing.
That’s an excellent distinction.
Sorry for a serious post but as this blog was originally made as a reminder not to trust every “fact” you read on tumblr:
Do not trust medical advice from random tumblr blogs, especially on how to perform surgery on yourself. This can kill you.
There appear to be troll/anti-abortion blogs posting self abortion advice that will get people killed. Posts sending people to religious fanatics instead of legitimate info resources. Posts advocating avoiding real medical assistance in favor of self harm and more.
We have all seen the reality-shredding lies that got this country where it is today, and you can expect them to continue, taking advantage of panic and fear as always to harm us.
Do research. Find resources you trust. Talk to people you trust. But for the love of god:
DO NOT TRUST RANDOM TUMBLR POSTS WITH YOUR LIFE AND HEALTH.
ppl being like “abortion is okay only if you took all the “correct” measures first or if you were impregnated non-consensually” SHUT UP! abortion for “sexually promiscuous” people and sex addicts and ppl you call sluts and whores and people who have one-night stands and every single person who had sex because they felt like it! you do not have to reach a quota of suffering to “deserve” an abortion. abortion is not something you earn. abortion isn’t a moral thing like you protestants like to think it’s a fucking right and everyone deserves access to it and they don’t have to prove that they deserve it. pregnancy is not a punishment for sex and every single person deserves the right to terminate a pregnancy regardless of how they became pregnant. shut up
I was organizing my books and I came across my copy of Serpent and Dove, which I read last year during the initial stages of quarantine — and I just need to rant about just how bad the book is. I’ll probably make separate post that go more in depth, but I felt like getting these thoughts out seeing as I didn’t have a Tumblr at the time! But this is another book that was hyped, and I indulged. And boy was it so not worth it’s hype.
[1] The Writing Style
The prose in this novel was nerve-racking. The description were so repetitive something I noticed from the first page. There was always this emphasis on the mouth with the characters always, always smirking. The story was poorly written. The descriptions were also lacking and this world was properly explored beyond being medieval (maybe?) France.
[2] The Plot + World-building
The plot of this novel was so contrived, and the pacing was weird. The world building? What world building? It’s just a vague French fantasy world. Like the dynamic between the witches, the religion, and the church were so undeveloped and most of it made no sense whatsoever. And the inclusion of real-world religion was jarring considering there are actually real-world examples of Christianity to draw from. Instead, this story poorly execute an integration of Christian lore and whatever-the-hell this world is supposed to be. Also, this world was very claustrophobic, meaning there isn’t any feeling of expansion, that the world exist beyond what’s directly happening.
The revelation of both Lou and Reid’s percentage held no emotional weight and were so cliche. And it just honestly didn’t even matter? Nor did it make any sense when you consider how the events of the story take place. The plot was dull, with the chain of events coming off as boring. I nearly wanted to skim, but each scene was as dull as the other. The exposition dump that ensued was done in such poor taste and was up there with the exposition dump of R/hysand explaining why he abused F/eyre from ACOMAF. And it was in the form of a...play? In the middle of town? The witches are not explored enough to be that interesting, and the magic system was also lacking. The climax of this story was sooo bad. The fact that one of the many dull, cardboard characters literally gets up and starts singing this obscene song and it’s suppose to work. It was so ridiculous. The two main characters were intolerable. Reid and pretty much the entire church being comically unknowing and villainous and the witches being the same way. Reid was so hateful with no seeming reason other than “witches are bad.” Lou was even more intolerable. Like she’s suppose to come of as charismatic but she ends up being just obnoxious. The villain(s)? Horrible. Each of them were just evil with the most cliche of backgrounds. I don’t even remember the mother of archbishop’s name (do they even have one?).
[3] The Romance
Oh God. The romance was an even weaker element of this story. It develops way to fast, to start. Reid’s animosity over witches is an integral part of his initial character development, but it honestly doesn’t take him long before he caves. And it’s not organically done like Helnik. The world is so undeveloped that the hate either seems so childish or just annoyingly naive. Both the church and the witches — or any of the two romantic leads have no nuance. None. I never felt like there was any stake in their romance, and I was not convinced of their love. [1] There was this inclusion of a novel Reid was reading which was so on the nose, a physically cringed. [2] nothing actually happens between them that was honestly romantically, most of the time Lou is just an exposition dump. I hate when one romantic partner’s only appeal is that their different because there isn’t any real actual reason those two belong to them. By the end of this story, the romance didn’t even seem real, their reactions are so forced. And this is considering the fact that Reid already had a love interest —who as far as this first book goes —wasn’t really a bad person. She’s literally just a regular girl, but I guess being a normal girl just isn’t okay. And Reid’s feelings for her just change (I think? I’m remembering this stuff off the dome). And there’s no development on why.
[4] Broad Problems
I will make a separate post for some of these themes just because I have a lot to say about them, but here’s some very problematic things in this story.
Lou’s comments towards Ansel:
Okay, so Ansel is established as a young kid, and he pretty much acts like it. He’s sixteen, but naive and unknowing because of the environment his grown up in. But, Lou — who I think is like 18/19 constantly makes sexually comments towards him, despite the fact that he’s totally a minor, and the story goes out it’s way to describe him as this childish person, yet Lou constantly bothers him. I was very uncomfortable by this and I’m not sure why the hell the editors didn’t catch this. The way it’s framed is just not good at all.
[5]Coco and Lou
Sigh...we have once again, the black best friend trope. And you want to know what the back characters name is?
Coco. Her name is Coco. Y’all, I just want white authors to know this is very ugly. I’m tired of black woman in YA/NA having no other personality other than protecting their white friends. Guys, if you’re gonna do this, just make the character white. Because honestly, the black best friend trope in media has had very negative effects on black women as far as representation goes. It’s tiring, because every white authors default is to make the minuscule black representation in the same role. I’m tired. I don’t like it. It’s so prominent and I honestly feel like it’s getting worse. I don’t see it getting better. And these are the books getting hyped, there’s so many diverse books out there with beautiful stories and great diversity YET these are the books being heralded by book tube and bookstagram for their “diversity” or “great storylines.”
if something confirms your biases, that's when you REALLY NEED to fact check it!
if it scratches an angry little itch, fact check it!
if it gives you petty satisfaction, fact check it!
if it feels like revenge, fact check it!
ESPECIALLY if it's about a group or demographic rather than named individuals, FACT. CHECK. IT.
i'm serious there are people out there who have salaried careers crafting misinformation posts designed to sneak past your critical thinking by activating your angrybrain and if we are mutuals i have seen you reblog them yes you.
Same energy
DON’T CALL YOURSELF A HIMBO UNLESS YOU ARE AT LEAST THIS STUPID
‘oh i hate this part’ male rights 2k20
Oh they’re going to need salvation.
Not just making it illegal, but making being gay punishable with death.
This is one of the many reasons why I walk by every single red bucket in the run-up to Christmas. They’re not getting my money, I don’t care how nice the people ringing bells are.
Ever since the time they threatened to close all their soup kitchens in NYC if a law that did something as simple as allow companies to extend spousal benefits to their employee’s same-sex domestic partners I have refused to buy from them or donate to them.
It’s that time of year again! In case people don’t know… the Salvation Army is shitty peoples.
Also, the married women are not paid (and therefore can’t qualify for assistance if they should ever divorce, etc). And worth “of course” less than a man.
“ In the Army’s case, the agreement for compensation is that the officer allowance be paid jointly to the husband—the check is written in his name. Officially, the wife is a “worker without expectation of remuneration,” and her husband receives 40 percent more of an allowance as a married man than he would as a single man. “

hey since that season is coming up again!
To my American followers. Don’t support Salvation Army. Not only are they homophobic as shit, but I’ve also heard that they abuse a lot f homeless people. They only care about money, please don’t donate to them and give your money to charities that actually help people
Never don’t reblog.
To be clear: this is specific to America. It is not necessarily going to be true for all countries. Please don’t boycott your own salvos without proper investigation: in many countries they do good work.
Sorry but no, the Salvation Army was founded in the UK and even there still are homophobic as hell, to the point that they still refuse to let out gay people hold positions of power in the organisation. This is a callout for the whole group, not just the US. - Purple
AND Canadian salvation army is just as bad! the whole organization is rotten from the core! Canadians are not immune to bad organizations!
Reblog to continue the violent hate against the Salvation Army.
Please signal boost. I’m pretty sure everyone who follows me should already know this, but just in case
Yeah, they’re assholes. I’m surprised they still exist as an organization. Give locally, esp shelters and pantries.
im gunna go back in time and kick my own ass
“this is literally an american problem” always seems to be said by the motherfuckers with the same exact problems in their country lol.
“ableism in medicine. lol what an american issue” uhhh buddy. you live in the uk…
“police brutality. lmao. what an american issue” you are literally dutch… your police beat the shit out of people regularly. 😩
“racism in school? thats an american thing” baby girl you are literally from south africa.
I really wish there were more information about these issues in other parts of the world but litterally when college students get taught about these things it’s considered identity politics gone to far here in Denmark. The goverment made a proposal to ensure that “activism stays out of the analytical approach” littereally because what was being discovered was critical of danish society and that proposal passed
There isnt as much information about that stuff here and maybe it’s because identity politics havent been as big of a topic as in america historically but Denmark prides itself on being against authority and yet here we are
