What is the true cost of piracy to an independent creator?
I just saw a torrent site that had more than a thousand illegal downloads of my Photoshop Megapack … in 24 hours. Seriously, how many people use Photoshop out there?! I mean, of course I’m upset, but I’m equally baffled by this number - I didn’t realize that many people had an interest in making digital art. It’s nuts.
Artists stealing from artists. I can’t understand it.
And I am always afraid to raise my already insultingly low prices BECAUSE I am afraid of more piracy. So, what am I supposed to do here?
The sad truth is that I either DO need to raise prices to make up for the gross number of thefts and keep my income stream from diminishing (which would, of course, make them less affordable for students and young pros), or I need to completely change the business model somehow to somehow fight piracy. I don’t know how to change it, exactly, but since piracy of my products has been steadily increasing every year since I started, I need to figure something out.
Final thought: If just 5% of those people had bought legally, I’d have made $750 today. Okay, okay - that thought will definitely not improve my mood.
If you are a victim of piracy of your creative products, and you have some thoughts on this topic, I welcome them in comment form. Also, if you agree that this behavior is disgusting, and that we artists should be supporting one another, rather than acting like cannibals, then PLEASE REBLOG. Perhaps, if we make a little noise, it will at least make people reconsider using torrent sites when they realize that working artists are behind all of the creative products they love: music, art, film - all of it.
Thanks for reading. - Kyle
I own every one of Kyle’s brush packs and paid for every one of them. If you consider yourself a creator, PAY FOR THE TOOLS that a fellow creator spent time and effort to make.
If Kyle doubled or tripled his prices, I’d still pay for them because they’re WORTH IT, but that would sadly just make piracy worse, because apparently WAAAH I’M POOR or LAZY apparently means people feel entitled to something for nothing. No. Pay up or cope without until you can.
If you are, in addition, a PROFESSIONAL and have stolen Kyle brushes, then you are a disgrace and should know better.
I’ve also bought some of Kyle’s brushes and I love them. And I absolutely intend to purchase more. Please support fellow artists, folks. They work hard for the things they love, and they deserve to be paid for it.
Getting friends in to musicals is hard because when they ask what it’s about you have to be like “15 year olds having sex” or “a plant from outer space that takes over the world” or “teenagers killing people for fun” or “Alexander Hamilton”
“7 minorities deal with crushing poverty and the looming specter of death by being a dick to their landlord”
“Sesame Street, but like… for adults”
“This one time in the 1830s a bunch of college students decided to fight the entire French government and…it didn’t go very well.”
“A nun and a retired naval officer fight Nazis with cute kids and the power of song.“
“A couple of guys stage the first-ever musical, and William Shakespeare is kind of a dickwad.”
“A transwoman rock singer recounts her escape from East Berlin in a case of WORST TIMING EVER.”
“It’s based on a John Waters movie…no not Pink Flamingos.”
“It’s the Bible by the guy that did Cats. No, no, it’s like…really angry.”
“Even if you’re struggling with finding your place in the world, you shouldn’t let a group of actors convince you to set yourself on fire.”
“Have you ever wondered how many people have tried to kill the president?”
“How to get away with murder, the speakeasy AU.” “A only marginally accurate recounting of the opening of Japan to the west, with experimental musical styles meant to imitate the consequent shifting of Japanese culture, told with as little recognizable plot as possible.”
“It’s about how trains probably feel.”
“It’s a guy who’s, like, excessively single and all his friends are married and kind of invasive about it, tbh.”
“Fairytales. And it’s actually dark as fuck.”
“Cannibalism”
THIS IS SUCH A BOP?????
Where is the M.I.A remix??

1,400-Year-Old Gingko Tree Sheds a Spectacular Ocean of Golden Leaves
Once a year, this towering 1,400-year-old tree showcases a transition into fall in a spectacular way—its thousands of leaves change into a radiant shade of gold. Located within the walls of the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple, in the Zhongnan Mountain region of China, this brilliant autumnal display attracts tourists from all over the world. As the leaves fall and create a vibrant ocean of gold, visitors leap at the opportunity to capture photos of the colourful carpet. (Source)

Hi, Clair. I’d like to come in and talk with you. Would that be all right?
This is the Batman we need to see more often. The one who remembers what it was like to be a scared child, one who knows how to handle situations delicately.
One of the reason why I love batman so much. He is portrayed as a very careful and guarded man. But he is probably the most human out of anyone. It’s why he is the knight that gotham deserves.
Re: that last panel -
Batman, when he’s written correctly, is an extremely compassionate person.
I always feel the need to reblog this because it’s definitely something I feel was lost in the Nolan films.
The thing about Bruce is he believes he is not a good man, but he is.
More than just being instinctively compassionate, the Batman in the photoset, at least, knows (and was probably trained in, i.e. actively sought out the knowledge) how to handle a person who’s been traumatised and their sense of self threatened without further trampling all over their boundaries. he asks for permission to talk to her, he warns her he’s coming closer instead of just imposing his presence on her. That is not something you know instinctively even if you know what it’s like to be scared or went through trauma yourself, it takes awareness because it means not acting as one usually would.
This Batman is compassionate, self-aware and sensitive, so I’m not even surprised the machismo fest that was Nolan’s version did away with all that.
Batman: War on Crime by Paul Dini and Alex Ross
It is always so IMPORTANT to me when I see Batman interact with kids; he knows what it is like to be a kid who is upset, angry, sad, afraid, and hurt.
I know this shit ain’t porn but dammit its batman!!!
