Trying to write eddie and bobby's first talk in one of my aus and hitting and hitting and hitting my head against the wall trying to understand captain I and captain ii and light forces and task forces and trying to bring what the show actually shows us with the main team and the random background firefighters and the amount of people that sometimes run around the 118 like what is happening why are you suddenly lining up for roll call with 20 firefighters who are these people we're chronically understaffed so anyway bobby has to be like, captain II and there has to be someone running around there who's a captain I of the second engine and sometimes they join up as a task force but, our main guys are the usual light force? but why does the captain I never take over when bobby is mia. or are hen and chim already captain Is. or can c1 not take over the light force because he's glued to his engine and crew just like the core 5 are? why are we not talking to the people occasionally driving the truck/engine whatever for plot reasons. who are these people. who are they. please. explain. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
and i still dont really understand the light and task force thing what does the rest of the task force even do when the light force is out. are they allowed to drive their engine out without bobby when the others are gone? is there even a second engine in the bay? if not that would mean no captain I but also why are there more people than seats in the cars running around some days. and then in 2x01 why was there no one with more qualification than eddie on scene. or was he already a fully certified paramedic back then? did he do heavy rescue and paramedic at the academy? being a field medic doesn't automatically make you a paramedic, according to what I googled it barely translated to emt knowledge which every lafd firefighter has to be btw. so I guess all available paramedics were just busy?????? or eddie actually was supposed to be one too and we forget about that unless we need him every few years because chim is busy doing something else???? god help me this show doesn't make any sense
The Google AI summary is at the very least hallucinating that the single engine can go out alone but I cannot remember seeing it in any of the sources I read the other day so that's a solid maybe lol

I post on AO3 for myself because I love writing, but there's something discouraging about writing something you love and have it sit at 299 hits and 37 kudos after 8 hours since it was posted...
Sorry for this getting out of hand and rambly and also this is in no way supposed to be negative towards you I 100% agree--
So the ao3 extension tools that give you like stats for how long the story will be to read when you will finish etc also give you a kudos over hits % breakdown
The numbers you gave come up to 8.08% which I've noticed is actually slightly above average for what single chapter fics get in this fandom. The % drops for multi chapters because this obviously gets repeat clicks by people that can't give any more kudos but then again is probably influenced by how far apart the chapters were posted etc so I think you can't really say anything much about multi chapter fics.
But single chapter fics.
8% of people leaving kudos is above average.
The really big fics like ones by pale etc get up to maybe twice as much, so ~16% maybe that's around where it caps out.
That's sad. That's nothing. I've been posting 118 word fics every day for 20 days now, something you finish in a minute and the highest % currently is 11.11% with 12/108 and the lowest 2.17% with 2/92
Those are very small numbers not usable for sample sizes but it still illustrates my point. (and I understand that a lot of people don't even bother with reading a drabble and my summaries are hit and miss etc etc.)
And yes the "big fics" will have repeat readers that won't be able to leave more kudos so those numbers are a little off too.
So let's say we correct that up to idk. 20%?
Sorting pales fics by bookmarks (my preferred method over Kudos) gets me I'll always be a bridesmaid at the top with 11k/69k
16.28%
So. Of all the people who read it. Maybe 20% left kudos.
If there was a comment/hits % it would be 0.006%
I wanted to use ice cream before dinner as an example first because I remember it shooting up in popularity so fast last year but the % here is 6.37% which is. Man. Not what I expected but that might be because people reread it a lot? 289k hits would suggest so. It has about 3 times as many bookmarks as I'll always be the bridesmaid and I know I've opened it more than once myself. I'm technically dragging it down right now because I opened the fic instead of the author page. And just for fun comments/hits is 0.006%
Anyway this is going somewhat beyond the point I wanted to make, excuse my rambling. It's probably not great for me to get too obsessed with the hits and % of it all especially during this 118 words bingo thingy like sure there's fics among them I put more effort in and was proud of that are sitting at under 100 hits but I'm no mind reader into which summary is going to draw people into reading a drabble and then which exact combination of 118 words will draw 11% of them to hit the heart after one minute of engagement vs which ones will have 98% of them just leave without as much as a single click. Does it reflect on the quality of the fics how many % I get? I don't think so. I like to think that I've been pretty consistent because the format of 118 words doesn't really give me that much freedom. A lot of them are very bare bones, I have to drop adverbs and he said she said because the drafts were closer to 150 words.
Still. Even 16%
Even 20%
80% of you couldn't hit a single button?
It's sad. I know if I don't get comments, on these short ones or my multi chapters within 24h of posting them the chances of getting any is close to 0.
Fun fact though some of my more explicit stories (not linked above) tend to get less kudos/hits % but a lot more comments sometimes even long after posting them. The people that are comfortable engaging with those seem to be the solid foundation of the fandom. Big shout out to them, my anxiety could never. As evidenced by me posting everything on anon and abandoning my last fandom's fics entirely when I tried to be brave and went off anon.
So just. Please leave a ❤️ next time you read something. Or better even two, one click on that button and then drop one in a comment but if you don't have the energy for a comment at least click the button? On fics that allow comments and Kudos from guests you can even open them in a private tab and anonymously show your love if you're an anxious mess like me.
Or a hidden bookmark. Authors can see those as numbers in their stats (just like subscriptions) but we can't see your name. It still feels nice to see it.
Ok third attempt at finding an end for this. Sorry for talking so much on your post. I don't have the energy rn to find another fandom to compare ours with. This is the end of this reblog. Bye.
That is to say I have nothing against clicking away before you finish a fic if you don't like it but I think hitting the kudos button should at least be an indicator of "a person has finished reading this fic and was entertained while doing so"

Really curious what exactly made everyone lose their shit about lap sitting A 😂
Updated a fic
Not the one everyone is begging me to update in the comments but hey, I updated it.
Actually let's add this one to the collection

I just finished reading " I didn't mean to say i do, but i do. I do." By Schrijverr on a03 and I almost died. I literally read it over the course of 2 days, and I cannot wait to read " I didn't mean to be something im not supposed to but I am. I am" By them aswell to see more of this AU. My heart broke for eddie and buck while reading this but this has to be #1 on my top 10 buddie fics. Your an amazing writer please never stop!!
Absolutely agree and it was so much fun getting to play in that universe for a bit ❤️❤️❤️
To all my writer friends who are on the struggle bus/suffering from writer's block/just dealing with life stuff right now!
Writing game: post the last sentence you wrote then tag someone for every word in the sentence. thanks for the tag @wonderviolet17 !!!

"Arrow was a madman."
It's Felicity's thought after seeing him jump out her window. From an AU I'm writing where she doesn't know his identity.
Tagging: @schrijverr @lexinoctura @alittleflashvibe @atommadly (no pressure)
Thank you for the tag @amelia-queen-black :D
Chimney is more worried too.
Another peak into my I Do sequel I'm writing. It is around here that I fear it gets out of hand xp
Tagging: @distractionpie @bupddates @merelypassingtime @space-city-traffic @followerofanhamirak (also no pressure!)
I can actually play this one now because my last written sentence isn't my last posted! Thank you @schrijverr for tagging me!
At some point, he had stretched out on the fire station’s couch to spiral in peace, thank you very much.
I unfortunately have not interacted with anyone else on this side of Tumblr, so just feel free to do this if you follow me! I am tagging you.
Writing an au for an au my best friend wrote I'm so sorry about the new chapter of E. Diaz being later and later ❤️
Fyi the next chapter is about halfway done I just got like three new video games which significantly cut into my writing time OTL

Eddie makes an Instagram under a new name and follows Buck 👀
Is that a good idea? Is it a bad one?
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Eddie shook her head, making the sun dance in her hair. Shannon wanted to reach out and touch it.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea, Shan. I don’t even have anything to wear.”
They were on their way home from school, taking the long way to spend as much time together as possible, like they usually did. Shannon didn’t like hearing her parents fight more than she had to, and she wanted to keep Eddie as far away from her family and their expectations for as long as she could without Eddie noticing.

Divergence from Chapter 28 of I Didn't Mean to Say I Do, but I Do. I Do. by @schrijverr
Eddie can't stop picturing Buck with a baby. Their baby.
It leads to some realizations. And a lot of sex.
Should work as a standalone. All you need to know is they're secretly married ""as friends""
Maybe one day I'll write the Abby meets the Doctor in Europe and becomes his companion fic but that day is not today because I have my second doctor's appointment in as many days.
