Yang was never one for nicknames. Especially not ones from weird guys she’d just met. She glared at the guy across from her putting her fists up before answering.

“Ready.” She said sternly.

She had no idea of this guy’s fighting style but she’d just have to take what she’d learned from Tai, and use it.

She was a different fighter than she used to be and stronger too, not it was time for her to show it off.

Yang took a deep breath slowly closing then opening her eyes to show them burning red. She was going to take it seriously this time.

      Poor Kid.              He meant in the most sincere way possible. Very few people came out of Beacon unscathed, regardless of what side they were on. Maybe Yang had taken more suffering than many others. Qrow pats the top of her head very softly. “Not just anyone could have made it that far on their own.”

      She needed praise. Taiyang was good at that, but he was still at home. Qrow was more than happy to substitute. “Way to ruin the moment, Yang.” He teased.

      The man mocked offense, clasping a hand to his chest. “Pfft. No. Why? Is he here?” He continued, in good humor. Winter was… well, Winter. There were endless jokes as a result of their last encounter. 

      He’ll take it in his stride. More or less.

Yang giggled.

“Oh c’mon!” Yang teased elbowing him a bit. “You know that if Winter was here Weiss would be talking her head off and you’d be flirting non-stop~” She grinned happy that she could joke around with her Uncle again, almost like nothing had even changed.

Whenever Qrow came around to visit, it was always surrounded by the smell of whiskey, after shave, and the remnants of a campfire. Qrow would tell Ruby and Yang endless stories of the job he had been on this time and they listened starry-eyed yearning for their chance to tell their stories once they became older.

But Qrow never let them know of the bad things that can happen once you get out into the real world. Maybe he wanted to protect them, but once Yang’s normal life was severed on that day, she knew her starry-eyed dream of becoming a Huntress was going to be different now too. There was no going back.

Yang sighed pulling Qrow closer for just another moment before breaking the embrace. “So, got any more stories to tell me?”

I feel like I need to clarify something.

Yang’s eyes going red does not mean her semblance has been activated. Her eyes going red signals her anger or frustration.

Her hair glowing is what signals her semblance having been activated.

Yang’s semblance is that she has to take massive damage to deal it back. That’s it.

There have been times when her eyes go red that she wasn’t even in a fight or hadn’t been hit once.

Do her eyes also go red when she uses her semblance? Yes. But that is always accompanied by her hair glowing.

Red eyes alone does not equal semblance being used.
