there is an argument to be made about the things a tv show has to change to transition a book to live action. I know they have to include luke more so they can pay his actor for the episodes, so they have to add him in places that he wasn’t in the book. from a technical standpoint, having him try to convert annabeth away from percy, and even kidnap her if given the opportunity, makes sense to add. 

but having percy steal the fleece from clarisse feels so wrong to me. they’re making the fatal flaw point a lot more in your face in the show so they’re making his actions a lot more fatally flawed. but the thing is…that point where he has to choose between saving camp and saving his friends? that’s the point where he finds another way. he thinks outside the box and finds an option that saves both. that’s who he is.

and I get people are excited because PERCABETH and I love them too! (“I wanna believe that if I can just think six steps ahead I can save you” TOP MARKS)

but…does anyone else feel like they’re trading something in exchange? not just for percabeth, but for adaptation. in losing the fight with polyphemus in the cave we lost percy leading clarisse and grover in battle! we lost percy making the same mistake against the cyclops that Odysseus did because he has a merciful heart! because when he looks at a cyclops, even one that hates him, he now sees a brother! HIS brother! ('he won't bother anyone again' HUH? did they have tyson kill him???)

and poor subtlety has left the building. I never thought that the way they would translate the unspoken, growing suspicion of percy’s fatal flaw from the books into “look into this mirror! wow, your fatal flaw is loyalty! looks like you’d give up the world for your loved ones! that’s a surprise tool that’ll help the titans later!” don't the new fans deserve suspense too?

im actually so so grateful that rinezha didn't actually happen even though i always thought they were really cute together. i hate it when authors write romance that diminishes the important themes in the book. love is something part of human nature, so it will always be prevalent, but whatever affection that grows between rin and nezha will always be crushed as long as the war and cyclical struggle for power continues. realistically, they never could have gotten a happy ending; even if they did start dating, their relationship would begin to erode over time. i also liked how rin's relationship with altan remains pretty ambiguous, since so many relationships in real life aren't always able to be clearly defined, and the abruptness and trauma associated with his death make it even harder for rin to determine what he meant to her.

I don't always enjoy the changes Rick makes to the series, but Sally taking in Tyson is one that I love. It was always a little weird how she just accepted him being homeless and simply asked Percy to be his friend, her giving Tyson a place to stay and reassuring him and standing firm on 'not everything that seems like a monster is one' is way better.

“They’re really pushing Percabeth in the show way too early!!” Are they tho ? are they ? or are they just correctly portraying Percy “my fatal flaw is loyalty” Jackson ??? because so far Percy has shown the same amount of love and care towards both Annabeth and Grover, he has both of their pictures up on his mirror (that he both longingly looks at), so far the two most important things for him have been a) Annabeth acting strange and b) Grover being in danger, he fully went against camp orders to go search for Grover and in the same breath put himself in front of Annabeth to protect her, Grover has been mentioned just as often as Annabeth has. So are they really pushing Percabeth that hard or are they just portraying Percy for who he is, someone who deeply cares and loves his friends ?

Genuinely don’t understand how anyone can have a problem with Clarisse initially choosing Annabeth and almost Percy as well, but ultimately going with Chris at Annabeth’s behest. Like it’s such a good addition that really deepens the hurt Clarisse must feel when Annabeth sneaks off WITH PERCY and then Chris will end up betraying her for Luke.

Nobody wanted to go with Charisse in the book. Not even her siblings. It’s a very plausible concept that she would’ve asked Percy and Annabeth if they hadn’t went off before she could because they were literally the only ones who actually did want to go. They’re just making that canon in the show, WHICH IS GOOD! It gives more complexity to Clarisse’s arc early on and makes sympathizing with her way easier than it is in the book. She’s still an angry teenage girl looking for glory, but she has a lot more to do character wise on screen now with this change.

obsessed with the fact we’ve all been clamoring to finally see grover in the wedding dress and the writers said “you know what, we’ll do you one better” and gave us grover AND percy in the wedding dress 💀

I love how the Disney adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians does such a good job from the outset of emphasizing that Percy might be half god on Poseidon’s side, but every instinct in him that makes him a hero is because he is Sally Jackson’s son.

I've been seeing a lot of complaints about how the pjo tv series adaptation is more centered on percabeth and essentially becoming a disney romance, and less on the action-packed adventure that it is. I too would love to see more action, but I've been watching the show and there's very little romance between the two at this point of the story. Percy barely even reacted to annabeth's makeover when in the book , if i correctly recall, he had an entire paragraph of thoughts about her new appearance. And i think people are failing to understand that percy and annabeth are also friends so you can't really translate all their moments as just romance. Plus, I think I've seen an interview where the actors said that they were not playing much into the romance yet. I'm probably wrong here though
