I don’t know who needs to hear this but you can’t “ruin” 2021 by making hopeful statements about it, people on the internet are not making prophecies, bad things don’t happen because you dare to hope for good things.

I know all the jokes are fun but I would like to earnestly and sincerely remind you that none of it is real. Nothing anyone says, hopes or “predicts” about the year to come has the power to cause future events. You’re allowed to say that you hope 2021 brings good things for you. You will not be somehow punished for that.

AAH, PERRY the PLATYPUS! I suppose you’re wondering about my evil plan. Well, you see, when I was a child in Gimulshtump, I was quarantined for several months,

Okay, but the thing with Perry and Doof becomes a lot funnier when you remember that Perry, being a platypus, is immune to the virus.

So imagine Doof monologuing over Zoom, secure in the knowledge that Perry the Platypus can’t possibly thwart him over a video call, when Perry disappears from the frame. As he ponders where his nemesis could have gone, Perry plummets onto Doof’s balcony and socks him one in the jaw.

Doof: What?! Perry the Platypus?! What are you doing? You shouldn’t be out here! There’s a quarantine going on, in case you haven’t noticed!

Perry: *platypus noise*

Doof: Oh, right, you’re a platypus, and this is a human virus, so… You know, I don’t really know how I forgot that.

Perry makes sure to do a full decontamination on his way home, to make sure Phineas and Ferb don’t get any potential virus particles on them after petting him and picking him up.

I may be forced to drop my sub-I two days in and lose the one rotation I was still really looking forward to this year to schedule another one. I really don't want to do it but it seems like my options are that or a) wear a already well used N95 100% of the time I'm at work - which will give me skin breakdown on my face and regular migraines or b) accept a covid risk I'm not personally comfortable with and entirely pull back from the limited social engagement I allow myself.

This just doesn't make sense as an MS4 on a psych rotation

I want to mourn her death. I want to honor her. I want to pay tribute to who she was as a woman, as a mother, as a lawyer, as a fighter, as a wife, as a justice, as a patriot. 

I want to mourn her and celebrate her and thank her for everything that she did, all the decisions that she made that helped me grow up in an America where I was safe to pursue all the things I wanted. 

Instead the first emotion I felt wasn’t sadness, or humility, or solemnity. It was fear. Chill down the spine, tears in the eyes, heart racing, muscle clenching fear.  

And I will never forgive them for that.

One of my classmates just died. We weren't close friends or anything, but I knew him and he was a good guy and I'll miss him. I'm not really sure how to process the news. The school has made resources available but mostly I just feel kinda hollow about it. I'm not sure if that is my way of processing or a sign that I'm not yet processing.

One of our community hospitals has already decided not to take students for the next month.

we had our first students back in the hospital today since the whole covid shutdown happened

I got three emails back from three different hospitals that they won't schedule rotations for October while the two that will have no sub-Is for the rest of the year. It's going to be a struggle meeting all the graduation requirements.

Update: she has become the alpha animal of the household. The dogs won't pass by her on the stairs or in the hall. She holds the best cat in bed position.

This is mostly hilarious because she is a 10lbs cat while both of the other cats are 15-20lbs and the dogs are 80lbs pitbull mixes.

As of right now I'm still supposed to go to a five week training in another state on 30 March. We were just sent an email saying we will be required to purchase black tactical gloves to be worn whenever we're outside to "prevent the spread of germs during outdoor activities"

How are the decision makers even making calls this bad? "It's essential to take over 300 people from across the country and put them in close quarters amid a pandemic, but don't worry, we'll prevent spread of a respiratory virus by making you wear expensive tactical gloves outside." You think the risk is worth it? Fine, I strongly disagree, but fine. Just don't pretend that something this bullshit will make any kind of difference.

Update: They're doubling down. Still no signs of actual mitigation strategies being put in place. I can only hope that movement is happening behind the scenes to make this anything other than a case report that people will study in the future on what not to do in a pandemic.
