character development: would your character/s say they're proud of who they are/what they do? is what they say true to how they feel?
// If you were not acquainted with her, she would give a vague answer, never really saying if she's proud or not. Vera only says that she remains loyal to the Tsaritsa, nothing more.
But if you really knew her... she would say it is complicated.
Vera is well aware of what she's done, what the Fatui have and continue to do. She knows of their reputation and plans for the future, yet she stays. But her moral compass still leans to the lighter side of gray, despite all this. She has not lost her emotion. When you take into account her guilt over Crepus and her brothers, it becomes even more difficult to explain.
So, if you were close to her, this is what she would say. It's complicated.

Reality. Such an odd concept. What we think we know so well, we know so little about. What we think we’ve studied, we have not… a place so familiar and unfamiliar at the same time… and an explanation of how one could possibly get there.
An illness has claimed the imaginary tree as the sea of quanta roars beneath it, fighting to finally secure victory in the endless battle the two forces have waged for countless eons. The realities, the past and present, all mix as a new reality grows like a parasite in the tree. This reality, filled with forgotten memories of the past, present, and future, has slowly seeped into pre-existing ones, causing unexplainable occurrences. Disappearances of people, objects, and even places have leaked into realities that were once fine. But each object always ends up in the same place.
A place never before seen, yet far too familiar.
The Backrooms
A modern/backrooms AU-inspired server based on the 2026 film The Backrooms by Kane Parsons (who is only 20 years old). This server mixes both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail together with the help of lore for the Imaginary tree.
" Loki? "
Vera called out as she saw the other, not having expected to run into him. While things were on the mend with Kaeya, she had become practically invisible in Mondstadt. It was refreshing to see a familiar face.
She walked up to the shapeshifter to give him a hug—which was odd but not unwelcome. " It's been quite a while, how have you been? What brings you to the Nation of Freedom? "
~ @burrat1n0
Loki typically had a smile plastered to his face but upon seeing Vera it grew brighter, more genuine too. "Vera!" He chirped, waving at her with a grin.
It was certainly unexpected but Loki hardly minded. After a brief moment, he was quick to return the hug "It has indeed! I am mostly just visiting a friend but, me aside, what ahout you? Have things been going alright for you, dear?"
The Agent hugged Loki for just a few seconds more before pulling away, already feeling the tension in her shoulders dissipate with the familiar conversation. " I've been doing fine. Tired, but fine... I also met Kaeya not too long into my assignment. "
While awkward at first, meeting Kaeya again in the Goth Grand Hotel proved to help mend a bridge she thought was broken for good. They're still tense at times, but it was more than she could ever ask for.
" We're talking again. Diluc is.. still unaware of my presence, but I'm more than happy to be with my twin brother again. "
"Even if it is only one of your brothers, I am truly glad you were able to reconcile with him- even if only to a certain extent. Its not quite the same without family, is it?"
"Ah right... I suppose it'd take Ragnvinder longer to come around to the whole..." he gestured vaugely "Fatui aspect"
Her smile lowered, just the slightest, before it came back just as normal. " With his experience with the Fatui, I suspect he will never be okay with it as I selfishly hope he could. " Though, Vera didn't blame him. After all, the Fatui held the Doctor, and the Doctor killed their father.
" But what's done is done; all I can hope for is that he doesn't try to strike me down on the spot or recognize me. "
The Darknight Hero... Hah, what a chivalrous name the people have dubbed him.
When Vera first came back to Mondstadt, she had heard rumors of the man from the men she had brought with her alongside the others already stationed here. All of them told her about a man with blazing-red hair and eyes, who used fire and a greatsword to cut down not just the Abyss Order, but Fatui camps in the open.
It was marvellous how Diluc's identity hadn't been leaked yet.
With this newfound knowledge; however, Vera made it a point to tell all remaining camps to hide themselves better to avoid the blazing phoenix's wrath. It would cause more harm than good to do so, especially since rumors and gossip still seem to travel quickly in the Nation of Freedom.
So when she was making her rounds in the dead of the night, she was both unsurprised and surprised to be caught by the man himself. Hopefully, the cloak she was wearing hid her hair and eyes.
" Ah.. The infamous 'Darknight Hero.' What a pleasure to meet the man causing so much trouble for me. "
~ @burrat1n0
“The pleasure is all mine then.” Diluc replied with a sardonic grin, wiping off a bit of ash that had gotten onto his clothes during the struggle to apprehend his opponent.
“You're Fatui. Unfortunately, that means you must die before you cause harm to the people of Mondstadt.” Diluc's voice was without any sort of sympathy as used his vision to warm his hand to a burning degree, intending to use it as either a torture method or a way for a quick and painful death.
Vera let out a scoff and turned to look at him properly, slowly unsheathing her blade whilst letting frost tip over the edges. " I never knew you to be so crass, Master Diluc. How the noble have fallen. " Ironic for her to say that... But he didn't need to know who she was.
" I've had to send quite a few men back to the homeland to recuperate from your attacks. Alongside what remained of their bodies— assuming you even left one. "
As cold as she may be, Vera always hated those who left no trace of someone they killed. With her rank, she was often the one announcing death to the kin. It always chipped away at what was left of her heart.
" Will you burn me to ashes as well, Ragnvindr? "
“I spare family, Vera. But I won't if you decide to use that blade.” Diluc's grip on his greatsword tightened and he lifted it in preparation for a fight.
He knew it was Vera the minute she started speaking, and a hint of betrayal stabbed into his heart. At least Kaeya remained in Mondstadt after their fight, but Vera decided to join the very same group that killed Crepus.
" How merciful of you, even despite all—..."
... What?
Her grip on her blade slackened as she stared at Diluc with wide eyes, frozen in place like a stag caught in headlights. What did he just say?
No. No, her appearance is concealed, and her voice sounds different than it did before. Vera fixed her expression.
" What do you mean? "
“Even if your voice has changed, I can still recognize it. It's not that different from when we were younger. I do have to say, I'm hurt that you're working with the group who killed Father.” Diluc pulls down the hood of her cloak, proving his suspicions correct.
Vera's eyes widened as she stepped back, heart jumping slightly when she remembered that she hadn't hid her dead eye—which was now a dull grey in comparison to her sunset-colored right eye, not to mention the ugly gash across it.
It was a bit too late to hide it now, though.
" I thought I was no longer family, or did I mishear you on that fateful night? " she asked with a cold tone of voice, " and I do not associate myself with the Doctor. "
Diluc shuffles on his feet awkwardly, he feels like he's eighteen again without impulse control.
“I know.. hurtful things were said that night. We were all upset about Father...” Emotions were never his strong suit. He should've just pretended to not recognize her.
“...I'm glad you're alive. I was worried when I couldn't find you.”
" ... you're... glad... " she said, unconvinced. " that I am alive. "
Vera had always assumed that Diluc wouldn't bat an eye at her absence; after all, he himself had left first. But with what she gathered from what Kaeya said in passing, it seems a lot of things she assumed aren't exactly true.
" I had heard of your little killing spree in Snezhnaya, " Vera redirected, " all of us were told to be on high alert for months. "
“It was senseless slaughter. I was angry and impulsive.” More shuffling, his grip on his greatsword shifting the longer he remained under Vera's scrutiny.
“Yes. I'm glad that you are alive. I thought they had killed you too.”
" Well, they didn't. The Jester made sure of it. " Vera looked away, as if contemplating before slowly putting her blade away. She saw no reason to fight him anymore. " Is that all you wish to say, Diluc? "
It most likely wasn't, but she wasn't exactly expecting to have a conversation like this with him. Especially with him.
“...I'm happy to see you again. But please know that I will not be so kind to others of the Fatui.” He's ready to end this conversation and drink a tall glass of ice cold water. Maybe even train a little to burn of his excess energy and frustrations.
She looked down, clenching and unclenching her hands in an effort to calm her racing mind. " What will happen the next time we meet, then? " Vera was still Fatui, after all. With her rank, she needed to be careful.
" I'd rather not make such a spectacle that it draws the Knights attention. I don't want to put Kaeya in the middle of all this as well. "

A lone figure stands alone in the middle of the night below the stars, looking out into the distance with no regard for her surroundings. Her long, braided hair moved with the wind that went by, and her hands were clasped behind her back.
Vera had no urgent—as far as she knew—to be. She always stayed on top of her work, the Jester's orders remaining relatively simple, save for a few. Rarely did she do work for other Harbingers seeing as she already managed a handful of the Jester's forces on his behalf, so unless she was suddenly needed, Vera had the night to herself.
She feels a set of eyes on her back, yet she does not respond. Her combat prowess was more than enough to protect herself, and more than enough to defeat any average enemy. The Agent didn't feel the need to go on the defense.
... Though the staring was quite persistent, it was starting to irritate her.
" Whoever you are, " she called out in an authoritative tone, " come out and speak instead of staring silently as if it would do anything. If you're going to stare, do it more subtly. "
// After consideration, Vera is no longer a Harbinger! Saw that it was a bit much. She's just a special agent serving mainly the Jester now, but she still has power within the ranks. Just now that she has to obey the Harbingers more. Also, she no longer has a solid romantic relationship.
//im thinking of a few rewrites for Vera after a lot of consideration in terms of power scaling....... I mightve been reaching for the stars with her
Vera chuckled and gave Kaeya a shrug, taking another sip from her drink as she glanced at the bar downstairs. " Nothing much, I'm just not working right now is all. Decided to indulge. " she then gestured to her dead eye, " no need to hide this around you either. "
She swirled her drink around in the glass before taking another sip. " I've been well, scarily so as of late. My paperwork is caught up, my men are behaving, and the ever elusive Darknight Hero has yet to destroy one of my camps. "
The Harbinger was quite proud of that one, judging by the very satisfied smile on her face combined with her relaxed posture. She took another sip of her drink.
" Perhaps I should both thank the thief for distracting our friend and pray for his health should he ever get caught trying. "
“ never should it be a thing to complain about no work! ” he cheers, smiling heartily and reaching forward to nudge her in the shoulder. a boyish action, almost, but he regains that colder composure just as someone walks by. “ why, i understand the reason the knights have so much work. but it's always such a nice thing for it to slow, isn't it? ”
he sips a bit of his drink, like it's a fine cocktail in someplace more fancied up than angel's share.
“ that thief. . . i'd like to catch him, you know. ” he sighs, swirling his drink. putting it down. picking it up to swirl again. “ far too much work for a single man. i digress. this isn't the hour to talk about work. ” Kaeya laughs again, the captain's mirth someplace between genuine and methodical. “ especially when you're going calm. . . ahh, i still need to rise with the sun tomorrow. ”
" woe is thou, I suppose? " she couldn't keep the smile off of her face, bumping her boots against his underneath the table to tease. " plenty of talk about the thief — even if it is mostly mocking. How I missed the tales of Mondstadt and her wine... "
Vera raised her glass just the slightest before taking a larger sip than one usually would. " ah, pardon me... I've gotten too used to the burning firewayer of Snezhnaya. Chugging drinks is quite common far up north. " she still remembers the first time she drunk the alcohol... Suddenly Diluc's apprehension to try it was understandable back then.
It made the woman snicker behind her glass, listening to the bard below play his lyre and to the sounds of the bargoers chatting amongst themselves.
" I think I missed this as well; the busy but welcome noise of the Angel's Share. Hasn't changed much, has it? "
" Drinking all alone, Captain? "
A familiar voice asks Kaeya from behind before a familiar woman was suddenly sat in the chair across him, legs crossed with a casual smile on her face. " Rough day in the life of a Knight? Lack of Cavalry getting to you? " Vera asked, though the teasing tone of her voice was not lost on him.
She laughed and drank from the glass she had brought with her, taking a small sip before putting it down. Vera didn't usually order, but seeing as it wasn’t Diluc nor Charles currently running the bar, she had decided to splurge on a strong drink.
Then she looked Kaeya in the eye properly, her dead left eye no longer hidden by some spell or contact lens, showing the dulled color of what was once a sunset.
" How have you been, brother? "

// been a while, hope you dont mind the intrusion :p
“ ah, well you don't need to rub it in, my friend. ”
Kaeya was taken off guard, too lost in thought for the moment it took for vera to look at him. he nursed a half-drank death-after-noon. the usual. it wasn't that strong, he needed to wake early tomorrow. still- the burn of something familiar was wonderful.
the knight looks at the lack of an eyepatch, amusement playing on his expression naturally. “ is tonight a special occasion? ” he asks with casual ease.
a small sip. “ all is well. ”
another. “ i just like the drinks here. and our stubborn old friend was not tending tonight. he's busy, i reckon. ” there's a few more pauses. Kaeya swirls his finger over the rim of the class. “ something about the winery. supposedly, the grand thief is stopping by mondstadt. you didn't hear this from me, but he's a bit miffed since the thief is also a drunkard. ”
the implication of stolen wine barrels is funny. how does one person steal a whole barrel?
“ and you, dear sister? has the wind been wishing you well? ”
Vera chuckled and gave Kaeya a shrug, taking another sip from her drink as she glanced at the bar downstairs. " Nothing much, I'm just not working right now is all. Decided to indulge. " she then gestured to her dead eye, " no need to hide this around you either. "

" Perhaps I should both thank the thief for distracting our friend and pray for his health should he ever get caught trying. "
" Hm? "
Vera looked over her shoulder when she felt someone watching her, raising an eyebrow as she caught a glimpse of a baby pink cape leaving a trail of constellations. If she remembered correctly...
She walked over and stood over the bush, leaning in to see what is supposedly a small child hiding within the leaves.
" I can see you, little one... May I ask why you've been following me? I've been able to sense your gaze for a bit now. "

There's a much bigger fatui activity in Nod-Krai than it were anywhere else at the moment ! It was obvious that it didn't mean any good . . . They always have to stick their noses into the lives of people residing in those islands .
Plus— . . . Wait a minute . Isn't this person that one woman she met back in Natlan ? Miss Vera ? The last time they had a conversation it was quite awkward , but . . . She seemed nice back then . Also , she didn't get to know her more since , well — firstly , she had her guard up and was outnumbered , and secondly — she didn't feel safe without Traveler around . . .
The small fairy decided to follow her a little though . Might as well get to know her deal on [Hiisi/Paha/Lempo] Isle .
She didn't seem hostile towards Paimon , so it's . . . Okay to drop her guard a little ? Also , Traveler can't be too far from her position . Especially because they aren't leaving this island without her !
Paimon flinched , the woman's sudden voice startled her — DEAR ARCHONS ABOVE— wait , she should've expected that , right ? She flew out of the bushes , surrendering immediately .
❝ A ha ha . . . Paimon's sorry , she didn't mean to be suspicious . . . ! Paimon is just . . . Wary ? ❞ Traveler's companion fiddled with her hands , sweating a little . She looked around to see if Miss Vera was alone . She laughed awkwardly as the woman pointed out her impractical approach . She isn't really the sneaky one . . .
❝ Yes , uh ! But Paimon really didn't mean it ! Paimon is so so sorry . . . ❞ She bowed her head a little .
" Ah, it's you, Paimon. " Vera chuckled behind her hand as she took in the young fairy's appearance, slightly disheveled from the hurried trip into the bush she was hiding. " Don't worry, it's understandable. Fatui activity has been... questionable, to say the least. "
The woman stepped back a few times to give Paimon some space to breath— though she was unable to stop the slightly smug smile from appearing on her face. She truly was a terrible eavesdropper without her travel companion...
" I'll assume the Traveler is not far, yes? I've heard you two have been going through problem after problem since your arrival in Nod-Krai. " To be honest, said problems were why Vera was sent over here in the first place... Also to visit Dottore's lab and mock him for his loss against the people. Served him right.
