Let’s Be Better Humans
I can’t wait to teach my children to be loving, compassionate adults. I will also teach them to be brave and to speak up even when their voice shakes. To not swallow that lump that gets stuck in their throats but to scream at the top of their lungs until they get their truths out. I will teach them that if THEY are not happy with THEMSELVES, they can change what they need without blaming others or expecting anyone to do it for them.
I can’t wait to be the mother I know I will be.
Wow. When I wrote this I had no idea I’d be where I am now.

Excited to show my son the love between his father and I. The love and this beautiful life filled with adventure and possibilities.
What my self-care looked like today:
Writing a letter to my partner thanking him for his unwavering love and support before I highlighted my expectations and needs after I deliver our baby. Sometimes we get so caught up in the idea that women are supposed to have babies that we quiet ourselves and our needs risk not being met. While he constantly asks me what I need, I don’t always effectively communicate what is going on with my body or how I may need him in specific moments. Getting it down on paper really helped me organize my thoughts and he really appreciated being made to feel more an active part of the process.
Our son will be here in a couple weeks and my body is definitely feeling the strain. I’m sure this type of exhaustion is only specific to pregnancy and also different for every woman. Just holding the phone to type this is making my arms ache and when I’m finished I’m going to do another recent self-care practice: putting my phone on do not disturb in the evening and allowing my mind to rest for the night. Sleep doesn’t come easily anymore, so I’ve been doing everything I can to help the process. I also took a bath today. I haven’t taken one since May when I was in my old apartment because I had an amazing tub. Tonight I realized that the tub I have now is what I have. It may not be as glamorous but I need to make use of it. My body really needed the soak and I feel so relaxed.
I’ve been wanting a lot of warming foods lately. Teas, broths, soups and warming spices like cinnamon and ginger. As I near the end of my pregnancy I’m taking time to acknowledge the shifts and changes that have taken place and being open and welcoming to the ones still to come. As exhausted as I am, I feel so strong and capable. I grew an entire human and I’m getting ready to welcome him into this world. Being a mother is definitely my most precious role and I can’t wait to show my son the love and possibilities that exist.
