Ralsei Theory!!
Been replaying Chapter 2 of Deltarune earlier today (missed one or two recruits in the last save smh) and during the boat ride with Ralsei really made me brainstorm a bit (SILLY THEORY AHEAD WOOP)

*Gang please HEAR ME OUT I am new to this fandoms theory-stuff go easy with me 😭🙏 it’s either been already mentioned before or outright wrong but idk I like to just throw things out there, similar to my hylics hcs
But anyway, with Ralsei nobody knows exactly what the hell he’s supposed to be in the lightworld right?? Queen being a laptop & Tenna being Kris’ TV, as examples. What if, let’s say, Ralsei is the embodiment of what Kris wants to be? Their ideal self? Who they imagine to be - I just couldn’t help but notice how Ralsei admires Kris and often asks them what they think of him, their “lacky” etc, this could be Ral admiring his “creator”, as Kris would have technically “created” him into existence, also the blatantly obvious similarities to Asriel, Toriel etc, Kris wants to look like his brother/mom, a goat monster etc. Ralsei is a goat monster just like the rest of Kris’s family, what if Ralsei was created and fuelled by Kris’ desire to fit in with the rest of the dreemurrs and to be the most “perfect” form of themself: they’re not happy with who they are and Ral could be the ideal person Kris wants to become - which of course CANNOT exist in the Lightworld, because Kris is Kris. They are a human, with imperfections, insecurities, alongside having this dodgey soul plot on the side (this could be the time to bring up the spamton/spamNEO parallels but I might get back to it later when I feel like writing more lolz) whereas Ralsei is depicted as cute, polite, well-mannered, a literal PRINCE. Kris is none of those (sorry Kris 💔 basically calling em chopped omg) I wouldn’t blame them for dreaming about being this amazing perfect child, especially considering how dysfunctional the dreemurrs are revealed to be in later chapters
Also noting how Ralsei does NOT want lightners to worry about the darkners, as they “don’t exist” outside their fountains, bringing up Ral’s lil demeaning speech to Tens (which wasn’t done in a mean-spirited way either lol) obviously, this applies to all Darkners but ESPECIALLY with Ralsei, as he’s a personified idealised version of Kris, he physically cannot exist in the Lightworld, whereas Tenna does exist, just as a regular CRT TV. This is why Ralsei is so dead-set on this mindset, he knows who is truly is and what his purpose was, he can’t and will never exist in the Lightworld.
Bringing back the boat ride I mentioned earlier, while playing this I realised this was when Ralsei started thinking more independently about himself, his “identity”, in which as the players have an option to say it’s nice that Ral is the way he is, how his own identity is forming
If Kris genuinely meant/thinks this is up in the air lol, but Ralsei is slowly forming his own character - his own emotions, opinions, all the while trying to keep to the rules of the Darkworlds, and he realises how deep he’s gotten himself into during the start of Chapter 3, how he warns Susie & Kris about the truth and why they shouldn’t feel too deeply about darkners - he describes his feelings as “selfish” for wanting to be alongside Susie in the Lightworld
This could be Ral realising he is only Kris’ ideal self and by developing his own say/personality could have massive consequences..? What would happen when your imagined self becomes its own person? It could also possibly explain why Ral and Kris have private convos while the player is checking on susie, “what do you think Susie is doing rn?” Etc. this could be Kris technically thinking to themselves?? Hmm… it could also explain why Ralsei is so happy to serve Kris/why Kris is distant to Ralsei during Chapter 1-2. It would be weird to be face-to-face with the better version of you, right?
I could probably find more screenshots of gameplay to support my theory more, but it’s 12:30AM and I’m lowkey not bothered atm lol, it was just an idea that sprouted in my mind while replaying Ch2, and just debriefed it with my sister who also liked the concept. I’ve seen a lot of people speculate Ralsei could be the horned headband Kris used to wear, but I took a step further and was like what if he isn’t a physical object at all? But is actually Kris themself?? Therefore he’ll never see the Lightworld, as long as Kris exists (insert gaster jingle here)
