Happy National Boba (Bubble Tea) Day! 🧋 Milk tea has always been a staple in Asian culture. I grew up drinking Hong Kong milk tea which is known for its strong and smooth taste. It wasn’t until the 90s when Taiwan’s ultimate combo of milk tea and tapioca balls started spreading throughout Asia. It went by various names such as boba milk tea (which is a slang term that I won’t elaborate on its meaning here 😅), pearl milk tea, and bubble tea. And now it has become a global addiction which is amazing! What flavor will you get today? 🥰

I recently got captivated by the Chinese drama, Pursuit of Jade, and I’m near the series finale! It has been such a joy ride and it’s amazing how popular it became globally. The show is so beautifully made from the story, the costumes, cinematography, music, and not to mention the cast is so good looking too! Here is my first fanart featuring Chang Yu and Chang Ning. 🤩 Which version do you like better? While I like the brown hair as a stylistic choice, black hair is the accurate version.

Happy National Retro Video Game Day! 🎮 What is your first video game system? Mine was either the Game Boy or Super Famicom (I can’t remember which came first 😅). The Super Famicom is the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo. Among the first games I played on it were Double Dragon, Street Fighter and Sailor Moon. My first Game Boy game was Pokemon Blue. Sigh… are the 90’s considered retro now?

Can you believe it's the final week of February already? 🌸 This piece was inspired by the flower fields in Japan where different varieties bloom side by side in beautiful harmony. I love how the flowers remind us that our differences make everything more beautiful. Our differences should be celebrated, not feared. Different varieties, same garden. Different people, same world. Tea party! 🌸 Halfway into drawing this I got too zoned in on the blooming tea and the illustration became more of a zen tea ceremony instead of a party. 😅 But I really love how this turned out! I think this is my favorite color palette to date! By the way, raise your hand 🖐️ if you also peel oranges like this? There’s something so satisfying when eating it by the slice.

One of my resolutions this year is to have more intention in each of my illustrations. Whether that be having better compositions, having a more cohesive meaning behind the drawing, or spending more time on adding details that enhances the drawing as a whole.
