wygtvmfayfsbtsrynact: whenever you get that view-master feeling, and you feel stuck between the slides, remember you’re not alone. crazy together
wait so that “crazy together” note means that “crazy together” is actually like,, their thing in canon. it’s not just a passing thing they said to eachother. it’s something that’s theirs and that they reference to eachother.

Asexuality.
And for the doubting Thomas’s in the comments stating that a) Kids won’t understand they’re asexual, b) Asexual is a new term and c) it’s wrong to even CONSIDER a 13 year old might be asexual, let me tell you a few things:-
a) Whilst any teenager might not “Know” they’re asexual, because they don’t know the term, and specifically about Will, the term wasn’t really around back then, we’ve already been told by Will himself he doesn’t think he’ll ever fall in love, and it’s implied he doesn’t like girls, and he’s fed up of all the romance happening with everyone else. If you can know your straight without needing the word to prove it, and gay without needing the word to prove it, why do we need him to use the term when he’s already suggested the concept? Like, his words sound like an age appropriate explanation of asexuality. Like, you can’t say “teenagers don’t KNOW if they’re asexual cos they’re not sexual beings” when the other teenagers of the same age, in the same show, are snogging each other’s faces off and wanting the door closed. It’s not sex, but it’s not exactly platonic, is it!?
Also you wouldn’t say that about gay people would you? Some gay people knew that they were gay when they were 3, why is it so different to think that asexual people knew by other means that they were asexual at a young teenage age? Some kids playing house, some kids having primary school boyfriends/girlfriends in that sweet way (Think Little Rascals with me here will you please?!) some kids looking at wedding obsessed poeple and, maybe one kid in that class is thinking “Nope, don’t want that! I’m growing up to live by myself with my dog!”. Like, these are the first signs for some people they were asexual, in real life, that they were expected to grow out of, and they never did. And it was brushed off by people saying They’d Change Their Mind When They Were Older.
2) Asexuality was a known concept since Kinsey’s study in the 1950s, but the term asexual wasn’t coined until the late 80s/early 90s. It’s been known as a few things. X was used in England during the 80s by some people who did sex and gender studies for uni, Non-sexual was an american version, some other unflattering terms to imply a social medical mental disorder. I’ve read a few sources about the history of asexuality pre AVEN, most linked by Swankivy, but this is a new one I’ve found
https://www.leoconnacht.com/wp/2019/02/asexuality-has-been-around-longer-than-you-think-a-peek-at-the-history-of-a-concept-and-a-word/
Which says it was a dutch magazine which founded the phrase, in 1991! So hey, back to Stranger Things: they’re resourceful kids, and we know Joyce will study anything to learn the answers to things bothering her. Maybe one of them goes to the library, finds everything they can on sexuality and learns the term and teaches it to Will.
3) Thirdly, I spent my teenage years saying “Yes I like boys BUT NOT LIKE THAT” and many asexuals spend their childhood and teenage years saying “No I don’t like ANYONE LIKE THAT” or “I like everyone BUT NOT LIKE THAT” and some might say “Hey I think I’m gay but without the sex, what is THAT?”. People aren’t thinking of teenagers having sex when we consider that Will might be asexual, we’re using the knowledge we had when WE were that age and seeing the similarities. The fact that it’s fine that people are suggesting he’s gay without the Same sort of implications just shows your opinion on asexuality, and it’s not good, and it’s honestly hurtful.
But also remember, there’s a lot of older people in their 50s and 60s now who are finding the term asexual and going “if only I’d known these words when I was younger” and “It all makes sense”, because of trying to fit into societies narrow boxes since they were children. So even though this is in reaction to a fictious character, the fact that is, your opinion on whether teenagers can Know they’re asexual could affect teenagers in your life. If they’re old enough to understand they can be gay, they’re old enough to understand they’re asexual, and they’ll need your support. Because if not they could spend 10+ years trying to fit into either straight, bi or gay boxes and waiting for it to click, and being miserable because it’s not clicking.
it's literally a headcanon why did u write an essay....and sorry but headcanoning CHILDREN as asexual is wrong because it is inherently sexual and it's just weird to think about whether a kid wants to fuck or not. being gay is not inherently sexual so it's different. just because he said he doesn't like girls doesn't mean he is asexual, gay people exist. not to mention the creators literally intended to write him as gay in the first place. i have nothing wrong with ace headcanons for non-minors but will is a minor and is clearly gay not ace. i also don't appreciate u derailing my post, this post has nothing to do with ace will
Welcome to fandom, you must be knew.
Everything is a Headcanon if it hasn’t been proved by canon. And there is more weight behind the possibility that he is asexual/aromantic:- “Mom I’m not gonna fall in love”, his eye roll at his friends pairing up and kissing, him trying to keep things as they are. How is that gay rather than asexual?
And I wrote “an essay” (actually just a really long reply but I’m glad I’m already in academic mode so hey) to explain why this ignorant point of view that he coudln’t Possibly be asexual because That wasn’t a word then - I literally explained all this in my above posts Btw - and he woudln’t Possibly know because of his age and THINK OF THE CHILDREN - is ignorant. And hurtful, to both adults who are asexual and only realised it recently, and children who are already thinking they’re wrong cos they’re not like their friends. And constantly get told they’ll grow up one day. And they’re just late bloomers. The problem is that you can’t seperate the idea of asexuality coming from sexuality, when I have already explained for a lot of aces, it was already there. They didn’t want to grow up and marry a prince or princess, they didn’t want to play house, they didn’t want to pick on girls or boys for their attention.
His friends are Kissing each other. You have no problem with that, but you have a problem with Will “I’m not gonna fall in love” Byers possibly being asexual.
And I didn’t derail your post. Your graphic asked a question and I answered it, I also answered some pretty ignorant replies to this post. It’s on topic.
because from what he's been shown in his conservative town the only form of love is between a man and a woman. so obviously when he sees that he isn't attracted to girls he's going to think that he won't fall in love, this is a common experience w gay people. ace children exist however it's still wrong to hc characters that are minors as ace for reasons i already explained. i actually do have a problem with the kissing scenes in the show between mileven in s3, i felt like they were too much. but regardless, my post was just a meme and it's not that deep i don't know why you, a 31 year old cishet, came on my, a bi 15 year old's, almost 3 month old post to argue but that's not what i want to do so if you don't agree just keep going with your day

boy oh boy do i love these sad adult men 🤡
imagine if the book ended w theos monologue and then him describing how beautiful antwerp was this time of year
theo: gets so pissed at the mere mention of boris having a crush that he punches boris when he brings it up, asks around about the girl, hates how after boris starts dating her she "assumed ownership of boris" because he wanted him for himself, is upset when boris proclaims that he loves her, isn't interested in any of the girls in his school, can't see himself with another girl "doing any of the things that boris and i did together" because that's who he really wants to spend his time with, can't stop himself from asking if boris is sleeping with the girl he's been seeing, catches himself wondering why he even cares about who boris chooses to spend his time with though he's clearly jealous, wistfully thinks about how they spent their time hanging out, hooking up, sharing everything, remembers boris' phone number a decade later, took russian classes and memorized the material in boris' voice, literally confessed to boris that theo "thought of him so much,"
also theo: insists their relationship isn't romantic and that he's straight
there is no heterosexual explanation for the shh potter scene absolutely NONE
