My mom visited me last week! For 10 days! We didn't even fight! It was great! Our relationship has gotten much better since I moved out to Austin... same thing happen when I lived in Chile.
Anyway, now I miss her.

The YouTube comments on this are fucking atrocious, but what should I have expected? Black Friday is a great day in America, because for 24 hours rich people get to mock poor people for fighting to acquire the same kind of electronic bullshitāalbeit of a lower qualityāthat already adorns every room in rich peopleās condos and McMansions. We reinforce the notion, via any number of channels, that owning a bunch of garbage is necessary to have a good life and then we humiliate people who treat owning a big damn TV like a matter of life and death. Just a real cool, excellent world weāve built.
damn never thought of it that way
Black Friday Sale

Interesting⦠when I first saw posts about the āKnockout Gameā my initial thought was how the media was going to use it as another excuse to portray young black males as animals. I think they were successful in doing that, because I saw a lot of folks posting articles & videos about this with comments like āThese kids deserve to be shot/beaten/arrested.ā Well, when I was a teenager I did countless things to harm the people & community around me. Iām not proud to say that Iāve caused physical harm to complete strangers before. Perhaps I deserved/deserve severe retaliation, but if I had gotten locked up or some random guy blew my head off, the work Iāve done in my later life to improve my community would have never happened. What Iām trying to say is, if the Knockout Game is real, it means we have a lot of young teens without guidance and the family structure in our communities are in bad shape. Without the proper support, our youth will never be able to turn their negatives into positives so think about what youāre doing to help with that before you rally for kids to be beaten & shot in the street as punishment. Actually, our kids are already being beaten & shot in the street by cops & Zimmermans and the last thing that we need is the media giving people more reasons to be scared of young black men. Also be careful about where you get your information from, because itās a lot of BS floating around the internet these days. But what do you think?
(Emphasis mine). Don't really know much about Knockout and don't have the time to read this article right now, but I totally agree with dregsone's comment about providing support, guidance and opportunity rather than unflinching punishment.
My nephew was recently set on fire on an Oakland bus for wearing a skirt (made national news, you may have read about it), and I have conflicted feelings about the guy who set them (nephew is genderqueer and uses the plural pronoun) on fire. The attacker is 16 years old and will be tried as an adult, and a lot of commenters on the news articles (DON"T READ THE COMMENTS BRO!) are saying that he should also be lit on fire and sent to prison forever. I don't know what to do with him, but I don't think trying him as an adult is the answer to helping him become not an asshole 16 year old.
Iām quitting my job tomorrow. So obviously, I got drunk tonight, and when I got home, I copied and pasted a stock resignation letter into Word and printed it out and signed it. Later suckas!!!!!
I"LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT Ā no but did u really quit
really
Austin smells like a swamp tonight, wet and hot and green and froggy
Driving around this weekend looking for a certain restaurant with a dead phone, it got one thinking, how did people do this before we all had Google Maps so readily available?
Then driving to work this morning, it hit me. THE THOMAS GUIDE! I had totally forgotten about this guide. Parentās had one, Iām sure everyone with a vehicle had one. Anyway, so yeah. Thatās how people got around before map apps. With an actual map.Ā
When I started college, my cousin got me a San Diego Thomas Guide which is so sweet and thoughtful and I used it only once, because the Internet. I kinda wish I hadn't gotten rid of it cause it's a relic!
Does this make me a real Texan now? #spider #tarantula #tw:spiders
wtf no please don't let it happen to me
chicagoin today for a professinal convention! gonna meet up with tomatoallergy and caitlinpike. i'm trying to explain to the girls in my program that i have these friends from tumblr, i mean they're not exactly friends cause i've never met them, but they're friends in that i've followed their tumblrs for years and we're friends on facebook and i know their cats' names? i've actually met caitlin before but that was also via tumblr, when she lived in boston.
tumblr is cool, i'm proud and also sometimes embarrassed, but not in a real embarrassed way but a more like, "heh yeahhh the internet" bashful way, that i've met so many people through tumblr over the years? you guys get it, i know you do.
99 percent of the times i see a cat, i have to drop whatever the hell iām doing and acknowledge that thereās a cat and say hi to the cat and walk up to the cat and try to pet the cat
