iām still shook over how frozen 2ā²s major message was about two queens facing the truth that their monarchy was built on the attempted genocide of indigenous peoples and that they themselves are descended from indigenous peoples, and about them using their privilege and taking direct action to address past wrongs regardless of the impact to the current societal structure that was built through genocide. not only that, but the oppression of indigenous peoples and colonisation is inexplicably linked to harmful climate change effects. like if you told me that the sequel to a film adapted from the snow queen fairytale would be a pro-indigenous, anti-colonial, anti-monarchist movie about two sisters discovering their indigenous heritage that also lets you know its okay to find growing older terrifying, i would have laughed in your face and yet here we are!!! and yes its a kids movie and these messages are subtly dressed in magic but its so important to have these messages in kids films!! especially one that is such a pop culture behemoth!!Ā
