The Black Parade (in Keposhkaverse)

(headcanon. See my previous posts for context)

They were a folk group in the 1920s. They supported the Revolution, and their titular song cycle is allegorical for it.

The Patient represents The Keposhka Empire: Full of regret for past wars and abuses and dying of sickness. The dying vision of the Black Parade represents nostalgia for both Keposhka folk stories about Death and the Empire’s Golden Age. But it also represents the revolutionary movement, and joining the Black Parade can help Kep be “not afraid to keep on living.”

After a time, the Black Parade folk group started expressing that they thought the DRAAG government had become corrupt and betrayed their values, and for this, they got imprisoned in MOAT. They either weren’t executed or were but were later cloned in the Concrete Era (more on that in the next paragraph). Either way, to their rebellious fans, DRAAG declared “The Black Parade is Dead!”

The Grand Immortal Dictator brought the Black Parade back both to practice developing mind washing and cloning technology and to abuse nostalgia, similar to the purpose of bringing back the Church. He is willing for audiences to see the Patient’s faults as either representing the old empire or enemy nations, as long as it’s not DRAAG, but he would rather they enjoy the music with an empty mindset and don’t think about the lyrics (“You say the words but don’t know what they mean”). Since he brought them back to also compete with American pop culture in the late 20th century, he replaced their folk instruments with arena rock.
