When the sky married the nightš
anyone else with the experience of heart suddenly being stopped at 3AM in the middle of a movie or fanfiction by mom soundlessly appearing in the doorway?
[PLEASE KEEP ANONYMOUS BC I DONāT WANT TO BE FIRED]
Iām a bra fitter in the UK. Wonāt name the store, but itās one thatās internationally popular so occasionally we get people from abroad coming in to bulk-buy English bras because they fit better and are cheaper.
A few months ago a German woman, who didnāt speak any English, came in for a fitting with her two daughters to translate for her. What she didnāt know was that I speak near-fluent German because I used to work in Bochum as a primary school teacher.
I fitted her for an hour (she wanted a LOT) and she slagged me off the whole time - āshe doesnāt know what sheās doing / sheās so youngā have they given me an intern? I want a professional / I wonāt take fashion advice from a girl that heavy / sheās not using european sizing, is she stupidā - and her daughters translated VERY favourably, both of them clearly quite uncomfortable with the situation.
I put on a brave face for the whole thing, pretending not to notice, and then as I was putting in her customer info (we keep a record of all our customers) one of the daughters complimented me for pronouncing their surname correctly.
I said thanks, and casually dropped into conversation - in perfect German - that I used to live in Germany and spoke the language.
Watching all the colour drain from that womanās face as she realised what just happened, and seeing her two daughters quietly lose their collective shit behind her, was pretty glorious. Almost made it worth it.

Iām telling you elephants are chill motherfuckers. They fucking love being helpful. They once defended a man with heatstroke from a truck that came to rescue him. They knew he was sick, laying against a tree for shade. They were watching over him and petting him, and they threatened to charge the vehicle for coming towards him. Another person passed out, and elephants cried over her and buried her body in a traditional elephant funeral. (Piling branches on her). And were quite spooked when she got up later. And an elephant was helping workers to put logs in holes for a wall. On one hole, the elephant absolutely refused to set the log in, despite being punished and goaded. Turns out there was a sleeping dog in the hole.
There are so many good elephants stories. They will even help zookeepers wash other elephantsā literally, a zookeeper can be likeĀ ā[Name 1], please wash [Name 2]ā and he will go wash that elephant correctly. Listen guys. Not only are elephants people, but theyāre largely better people than us. Iām 10000% serious.
Sometimes good posts are made by annoying people so Iāll help out
These are Safe Shorts. They were made by Sandra Seilz after someone attempted to rape her. If the fabric is torn, an alarm will be sounded.
This is the Rape-aXe, invented by a South African doctor by the name ofĀ Sonnet Ehlers. After interviewing a rape victim who wished she had teeth down there, she made this. If someoneās penis is inserted and pulled back out, the teeth will sink in, and can only be removed by a doctor.
The Killer Tampon (couldnāt find a site for it), made by retired anaesthetist Jaap Haumann. When penetration takes place, the sharp end will slice the offending appendage.
The Anti-Rape Belt (also couldnāt find a site), made by a group of Swedish teenagers led by Nadja Bjƶrk. It requires two hands to undo.
Anti-Rape Underwear/Bra (once again), as made by a group of Indian students. Will deliver an electric shock when met with unwanted advances, as well as sounding an alarm.
Undercover Colours. Made by 4 male undergraduates at North Carolina U, they change colours when in contact with chemicals or drugs that cause unconsciousness. Used in case youāre wary that your drink has been roofied.
These are just tools to help, but in addition to being mindful of your situations and staying safe, they can help when the worst happens.
Stay safe.
ok, those are all kind of awesome. i wish they werenāt needed, bit stillā¦awesome solutions.
I feel more comfortable reblogging this version
RapeAxe has a gofund me up that barely has 700 dollars. I feel like the inventions that havent even been funded yet should be linked to the page you can support them at.

not to sound too millennial here but it annoys me so much when Iām at a restaurant and someone Iām with will complain about the service being slow like buddy pal itās fine itās not that important
You didnāt waited 40 minutes for a dinner before havenāt you?
i have but i also have, like, real problems
I waited well over an hour for food once at IHOP, because it kept coming out inedible. We finally asked what was going on, and it turns out that the ONLY cook had been working for 36 hours straight with only a short nap. I ordered the easiest thing to make, tipped the waitress heavily, and sent her back to the cook with a $10 tip for them, too, AFTER watching the 24-hour restaurant close the doors so that they could send the cook home for some rest. Yeah, Iāve waited 40 minutes for my dinner, and I didnāt ask for a discount, we tipped VERY well, and sent the cook our best wishes. If something goes wrong with your restaurant experience, consider that there are real people back there, working under god knows what conditions.
