     “ Directly? Not at all. ” More of a curiosity, truly. After all, it wasn’t often that he found a member of the elite four roaming around his stomping grounds. They seemed to always be around after he’d long gone, left only to hear stories of it afterwards. “ I would be more than honored to battle you, if not now, some day. ”

Nate turned immediately when he saw the harsh flickering of light. That was clearly something. Candles didn’t just do that. 

Curiosity getting the better of him, the ‘ninja’ approached slowly, focusing on the figure. He wasn’t dressed as darkly but that didn’t make him much easier to see in the dark of the night and the trick of the candles.

“Ghost friend?” Nate asked as he moved closer. He smiled when he made out some of the form. “Hi! I’m Nate. I guess you want to know why I summoned you. You see, I’m alone now, and I really don’t want to be. I was hoping you could help me find a friend to spend time with. I could spend time with you if you want, but I don’t know if you want to go back to rest or not.”

Absol would be the first to approach. With the light beneath him, it gave the pokemon a more menacing appearance, much like that of the rumors surrounding the pokemon’s species. He frowned deeply into the light.

Calme followed towards the end of the little speech, mildly amused to have learned that this was all just a hoax for a boy about his age to be looking for a friend. Oh, and yes, the very fact he seemed to believe that Calme was a ghost. It’s not as thought he wore anything particularly ghoulish, not that he’d thought so anyways.

“Well, you’ve certainly put me out of a job.” He remarked, not bothering to explain how he wasn’t a ghost. His pokemon, if not his full appearance shown closer to the light, should be enough in his opinion. “My name is Calme.”

Nate was bored and clever. This would always be a problem, even when Nate tried to make sure it wasn’t. Dressed in his black ninja outfit, he had scurried off to some dark and secluded path in the middle of the night. It was far off and away, just in case he only partially failed in this objective. 

On one October night, Nate had set up several candles in what could only be described as the scariest looking place Nate had found in an hour of searching. He began to light the candles and set them around where the candlelight could travel to attract his target: spirits. 

Nate was bored and lonely in October. His only reasonable path was to call upon spirits to attract to him an individual- maybe a friend, maybe a boyfriend, maybe a stranger to get coffee with. Maybe a ghost friend! Just someone he could be good with while he was in Kalos.  He prowled around, trying to catch sight of the spirits while walking through the lights, blocking them for seconds at a time. That had to attract some spirits.

Absol dug into the ground. His voice grew to a low almost growl. Calme put his pokeball back onto his belt. There was an intruder nearby, not their target. He took off then with Calme following close after.

---And that’s when they’d nearly knocked down those candles.

He’d managed, if only just barely, to step on the right spots, near jumping onto the other side of the candles. His gaze narrowed onto the darkness and the person it reflected. They weren’t that much older than himself. 

Maybe.

It was hard to tell with that all black outfit -- so out of season, he frowned.

The grounds were quiet during this time of night save for a particular intruder. The Kalosian native continued onward, ignoring the rumors he’d received about this particular unmarked path. Even without the badge of a hall of famer, he was still a talented trainer, able to fend away whatever danger Kalos might have had in store for him.

After all, a client wanted this particular pokemon taken cared of and he’d intended on delivering.

Absol hung close to his side, tilting his head. He’d sense something, bringing Calme to a stop as well. The trainer waited for his pokemon to direct him. He wouldn’t doubt that Absol had found what they’re looking for.

☠ - angry/violent headcanon

Calme’s type of anger is the kind that settles beneath the surface. It comes across like an itch beneath the skin that one can’t get into. It’s not something he usually vocalizes. More often than not, it’s in his posture, the way he falls silent, and more so than usual. His often ‘polite’ demeanor becomes frosty. His smiles grow sinister, and, depending on the situation, he accepts what is given to him. 

Anger is a bitter pill for him to swallow, as someone who prides himself on keeping his emotions tightly bound to the point of no return. Even after his time with his friends, it’s difficult for him to let go. More often than not, the simple fact he troubles himself with interpersonal communications is for the very fact that he needs information.

Yuuki was starving, to say the least. However, he minded his manners, and simply helped himself to some meringues. And then a macaron, but after that, Yuuki stopped and took a sip of tea. The dainty pastries were skillfully made, but they weren’t filling in the least. Perhaps a croissant – not. He wasn’t here for a food trip.

Within the box was a set of status recovery items that Yuuki had snagged from a warehouse sale. He wasn’t one to pass up a good bargain, especially not when it benefited his job.

“This month’s orders are within an envelope,” said Yuuki, “You should find it enclosed.” 

He sipped some of his lemonade. The ice had melted some in the heat, but it wasn’t too watered down yet. (Admittedly, he preferred soda pop – especially those of the Slateport variety. But above that, green tea.) 

“By the way, Rivers – I’m supposed to observe you for certain items on the list. Two, I believe.”

Sure enough, he’d found the envelope along with the rest of the items. While he could take his time with them later, this couldn’t wait like the rest of it. It was easy enough to open, despite its seal, and she fished out the letter it contained. The orders.

He leaned back in his chair, reading this month’s chore thoroughly. It seemed sound, nothing all too different from the usual. Testing a few Devon Co. products was nothing new to him, but it was flattering to say the least.

“I see,” he murmured more so too himself as his gaze lingered on the very two items on the list. “That is more than fine with me.” Folding back the letter, he placed it into his messenger bag. The box full of items was better left on the table until they were to leave. 

He finished his drink, “whenever you’re ready, we could head over to my apartment. We could adjust our packs accordingly --- or mine, at the very least. You may rest there while I do so, if you’re still tired from your travels.” Or help himself to Calme’s fridge.

Disclaimer: French people complain a lot. A lot. Don’t be surprised if 90% of these expressions are complaining.

Non mais oh - say this if someone does something mildly annoying and you want to express your shock and distaste.

Tu me fais chier - (alt. tu me fais chier, là.) literally ‘you make me shit’. means you’re pissing me off.

Carrément - translates to ‘squarely’. Means ‘literally’. If someone tells you something surprising or annoying, you can answer simply “ah carrément.” see: tu me fais carrément chier.

J’hallucine / je rêve - are you annoyed by something? say these.

C’est pas possible - a classic. anything bad happens - c’est pas possible. There is no cheese left? It’s not possible. I’m hallucinating. This is a burden on me that solely I can bear I cannot believe this is happening.

Ça commence à me gaver - I’m starting to get real sick of this. see: Ça commence carrément a me gaver là, putain.

T’es relou - verlan slang for ‘lourd’ meaning someone’s heavy, personality-wise. They’re tedious.

Ça me saoûle / ça me gonfle - similar to gaver, means something’s pissing you off, you’re sick of it.

Grave - totally.

C’est clair - totally/that’s clear. Like ‘claro’ in spanish. “Justine elle est trop relou” “C’est clair. Elle me fait chier.”

J’en ai marre - I’m sick of this.

J’en ai ras le bol - I’m sick of this.

J’en ai ras le cul - I’m sick of this (vulgar).

(J’en ai) Rien à battre - I don’t give a damn.

(J’en ai) Rien à foutre - I don’t give a fuck.

C’est bon, là. -  That’s enough.

Perso, euh, - “Personally,” generally used at the start of a complaining sentence, to express how personal the matter is to you. Perso, euh, c’est bon là. J’en ai ras le cul.

Rôh là - general expression of distaste. Le longer the rôh, the more annoyed you are. Rôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôh, c’est quoi ce bordel.

C’est quoi ce bordel ? - translates to “what’s this brothel”, means “what’s this shit?!”

C’est de la merde - It’s shit.

C’est une blague ? - Is this a joke?

Idem - ditto

J’ai la dal - I’m hungry

Ça caille - It’s freezing

Ouf - two meanings 1. phew or 2. verlan for “fou”, meaning crazy (as a noun or adjective). “Kévin, c’est un ouf! Il fait du vélo sans casque!” “Ouais carrément, c’était un truc de ouf!”

Kévin - there’s a running joke that all the young delinquents seem to be called Kévin.

Crever - slang for “to die”. Va crever, connard!

Connard/Connasse - c*nt, but a lot less vulgar in french peoples eyes

And finally,

T’es con. No English translation can express the power behind the words “t’es con”. While it may sort of translate to “you’re a c*nt/idiot”, it expresses something much deeper. You really are a god damn fool.
