Girl Genius Characters React to Being Picked Up By the Machine for Picking Up Girls:

Agatha: it's a big clank, are you kidding? She's delighted. She has 12 suggestions for Spontaneously Improving it that she's going to try out right now, and then she's going to conduct a controlled trial of its upgraded ability to Pick Up Girls. For the rest of this post, assume that Agatha is operating the Machine.

Zeetha: spontaneously invents the Fastball Special. Is removed from the experiment pool until the next time we need someone to do that, which will probably be, y'know, tomorrow or something. Stuff happens.

Violetta: tolerates it once for Agatha's sake. Is unfindable for the rest of the trial.

Bang: if she sees that clank again she'll murder it and Gil.

Colette: she'll take five of them, but Gil will never hear the end of it. Spontaneous Improvements are made.

Seffie: not sure why she's tolerating it. [Colette is operating the Machine, is why.] You can put her down now.

Sleipnir: "Hey Agatha, I can see your house from up here!"

Larana: already best friends with Zoing.

Trelawney: thinks its hilarious. Comparing notes with Zeetha about the Fastball Special ideas.

Neena: can she have one for her mom's next party, and also can she take it on expeditions. Also spontaneously best friends with Zoing.

Albia: we didn't try this.

Francisca Monahan: talked about rats until the experimenters went away. File under "unsuccessful", and possibly under "god-queen influence used".

Prrrriti M'reau: absolutely not. Experiment cancelled on account of Angry Cat Glare.

Zola: I think we should do this in canon, actually.

Lucrezia: I don't think we should do this in any context, actually.

Mamma Gkika: has a VERY scandalous story about picking up girls. Experiment paused while everyone recovers. Or encodes the notes they were taking during the story. Whichever.

Hexalina Snaug: this sort of thing happens to minions. Resigned. That really could have been more traumatizing though. Would they like suggestions?

Otilia: puts the Machine and Gil in time-out. [Zoing is innocent, obviously.]

Tinka, Moxana, Orotine, and possibly Prende: all mysteriously missing from the subject pool, and nobody knows where Tarvek went either.

Lilith Clay: tolerates this with dignity, but only because it's Agatha doing it.

Maxinia Clay: the Machine is NOT ALLOWED to pick up the baby unless the baby SPECIFICALLY wants to be picked up. [The baby absolutely wants to be picked up. It is very gentle with her. She is less gentle with it. Experiment paused for repairs and Spontaneous Improvements.]

Zulenna: NO.

Jenka: we forgot to warn Füst. Repairs.

Lumi von Mekkhan: says "Wheeeeeee!" a lot. Spontaneous Improvements.

Captain Oana Grosu: is definitely going to tell some pirates she knows about this. Are there spares of this machine by the way.

Captain Jeanne the Europan of Piratical Descent: has SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I disagree, I think we should try picking up lucrezia. The machine for picking up girls [mfpug] is presumably still on castle wulfenbach, and it cant possibly make things worse given the *gestures* everything

#boris reminds me of a specific type of classic lit charaters that makes me think that he should be considered hot in universe#he's an extremely high ranking government official and has a normal personality. and he quadruple wields rapiers!#the fact that hes not swimming in marriage proposals really speaks to the bias against constructs in europa#or maybe he is and we just dont know about it - original tags

Boris does get marriage proposals - many of them! - but also Boris just wants to do his job and not have an Empire-wide crisis this week. Which includes handling the mail. And the filing.

So good luck anyone else finding the marriage proposals.

In general i have a habit of not interacting with people in fandom, just sort of posting things and then going on my way. 9/10 times i dont have an avatar, and i look like a weird bot. Ive made more of an effort over the years with gg specifically because i noticed the fandom was small, and if you want to generate community discussion and content then you have to actually do something about that. But also i am a very nervous person online, so i can only do so much before i get the better of myself

Someone liked a post on an old ship specific fandom blog so tumblr automatically opened to my notifs and dms for that blog. And i was like I DMED PEOPLE ON THERE???? It was like five years ago i didnt even remember. One of them was someone im actually friends with. Who knew

Wednesday's page: Agatha's expression in the last panel concerned me.

My immediate thought was "When did we last actually SEE the time stop device? Who had it?" And so I dove into the archives to find out. (Woe is me; I spent an hour rereading some Girl Genius.) Turns out Gil was the last one holding it, on the page for 24th March 2025, where the Trio are discussing how to use it against the monster.

Not that it mattered, in the end, since the first panel on Friday was this:

BUT, I'm bringing this up because my little reread reminded me of something - we haven't seen Bohrlaikha "on screen" for over a year. (Specifically, this page from 22nd January 2025.)

So my question is: When is Chekhov's Clank going to slice her way back into the narrative?

You know what, I'm going to have to assume that the only reason Seffie didn't notice his expression of absolute horror (and isn't it telling...) in these panels is that her hat is just too big for her to physically see past it.

It's the only explanation I've got.

See, that accounts for his face, but not his tone of voice. Since it's a visual medium I guess we can assume he managed a convincingly cheerful or at least thoughtfully scheming tone that Seffie's attention wasn't caught and she didn't bother turning to an angle where her hat wasn't in the way, but if he could pull that off you'd think he'd remember to pair it with a smile…

TIME#girl genius#nyquil don't look#sarah don't look#genuinely i pull this page up just to stare at those panels like. once a week#i think the whole OT3 is at least partially there at this point tbh#agatha continues to prioritize her city and her people and dealing with her mother but her boys are both Hers#and i find it difficult to imagine her still needing time to agonize or even like. seriously consider whether she's going to pick one#she loves them both. they love her. there are many complications and things left to think about#but half of europa already knows the lady heterodyne has two boyfriends. i don't think ''should i break up with one of them'' is on the lis#i'm not sure whether gil has actively made the last leap to ''oh hey i would also like to make out with tarvek maybe?''#but he was already on board with them both being ''on agatha's string'' BEFORE the timeskip#and then. i mean. the timeskip. the kidnappings. the flirting. the time violetta called them on flirting. the time he saw agatha kiss tarve#and just stood there grinning stupidly because he knew that meant she was about to kiss HIM#he MIGHT still not have made that last jump but i think it's 50/50 on him just. not actually having stopped to think about it#and once he does it'll basically be like. wait yeah i also have two hands. more importantly so does he#if agatha and i are both holding them he can't get kidnapped again right?#OR he actually did figure it out during the timestop and he's basically been waiting for tarvek to catch up#in a classic ''oh right gil is actually really smart and observant?'' moment à la klaus's ''oh! the heterodyne girl!''#or sneaky general higgs or the first conversation with zola in castle heterodyne etc#genuinely have no idea which is more likely. i would lean towards the former but that's exactly how the latter moments happen#and it was a LONG two years. and he does seem to save all his crises to have at once#so i think agatha and gil are both like. comfortable in the knowledge she has two boyfriends#i think gil either agonized over also liking tarvek but has come to terms with it OR hasn't thought about it and will just go ''huh okay''#and i think tarvek has been secretly agonizing over liking gil basically whenever he wasn't busy flirting with him or agatha#and is semi-comfortable in the knowledge agatha has two boyfriends but is still afraid his family will manage to ruin everything for him#AND knows he likes gil but is still mostly convinced it's unrequited and he's going to pine forever#except when they're flirting because then he's too busy to remember to worry about that#i did realize halfway through i should've taken this out of the tags but by then i was too lazy sorry - tags by @iridescentoracle

Aldin Hoffmann is my favorite character in Girl Genius, and I hope that we see him again (and his brother Jim, who is in some of these), he has the best expressions
