Been slowly doing some rereads on Girl Genius! Had to draw the girl, better than I have since the last time, bc she deserves better than my last time. A bit too tired to color, but ah, well, it just be like that sometimes.

My favorite detail from the third Girl Genius novel is that one of the things that passes through Tarvek’s mind when he thinks he’s about to meet gruesome robot-cat death is regret that he’s wearing a tattered bedsheet and not the outfit he planned to be wearing when he dies.

1) Of course he picked out an outfit for that.

2) He had to have been working off the assumption that he’s not going to live long enough for it to have gone out of fashion.

3) Like. He’s devoted some thought to this? “He had always planned to die while ranting atop a tower or something - he had a very nice outfit all designed for the occasion and everything - and now all that effort would be wasted.” He’s not suicidal, he just. Assumes that he has an early-ish expiration date, and has planned accordingly. Being perpetually unsafe is just a basic fact of life for him.

4) Tarvek is remarkably stable for someone whose life is a boundless cornucopia of horror, is what I’m getting at.

AT LAST!

So. Years and a century or so ago, back in May of 2017, @thebestdespot, @realstormking (who is that redhead on left), and I attended Marcon, in Columbus, OH. A rather large reason for this was the Foglios were Guests of Honor. It was kind of our last great Girl Genius shenanigans (For now. We need the reunion outfits to cosplay!).

One of the highlights of the weekend was to see the two commedia dell'arte troops perform a Heterodyne Boys play. I spent a long time in 2017 waiting for this video to pop up, so I could share it with all of you.

Please note, this is a Heterodyne Boys play, not canon, though the Foglios (sparkly yellow vest, and turquoise scarf, just off to the right) seemed highly amused.

Girl Genius is a grand webcomic, but reading it sometimes feels like watching someone juggle, and they never put down a ball, they just keep adding more balls, until there are so many balls in the air you’re sure they’ve all got to come crashing down at the end, and when you think they have to start removing some balls, they just add more, and eventually you’re begging on your knees, “Please! Resolve one of these plotlines! For the love of God!” 

And the Foglios just smile and set all of the balls on fire

Participants are required to have an AO3, a tumblr account, pillowfort, LJ, or Dreamwidth account to participate.

If possible, please post your fanwork to AO3. Crossposting is heavily encouraged! 

General fandom courtesy for fanworks should be observed. No plagiarism or stealing, and give credit for resources/ideas.

Please add warnings to your fic or artwork, if applicable. If you choose NOT to use warnings, please state that you not using warnings and that anything at all could happen. The one exception is bigotry based on real world examples (e.g. racism, anti-semitism, queerphobia, etc.). These MUST be warned for. If you think you have an exception to tagging (such as canon-typical discrimination against constructs!), I welcome the discussion, and if you aren’t sure if something qualifies even after researching it, feel free to ask. If you are asked to warn for it, especially by myself or your giftee, then you need to add warning tags.

What types of fan works are allowed? We are a small fandom, and we welcome just about anything. Fics, fan works, 8track playlists, and many more things are perfectly acceptable for this exchange. If you have any questions, please shoot stellawind a message, an email or an ask.

FAQ

How long does my fic have to be? Please write a completed fic at least 1000 words long. Do not post just the first chapter of a WIP.

How big does my artwork have to be?The artwork should be at least 500x500 pixels. Exceptions can be made, such a series of small panels, banners, etc.

How long does my fanvid have to be? At least 1:30 minutes. 

What if I can’t finish my fan work? PLEASE LET STELLAWIND KNOW ASAP. An extension to the deadline can be made. If you can’t make that, please let us know as soon as possible, so a pinch-hitter can be found.

Do I need to have something done by the December 15th check in? Nope! We know this is a busy time of the year, especially for students. We just want to know you are still participating.

Are crossovers allowed? Only if the gift recipient asks for a crossover.

Do I need a beta? No, but having a beta reader for fic is encouraged, if possible. 

Can I post whenever I want? No. Please post on your posting date. If you need to post early, please let me know. If you need to post another day, please let me know. Do not leave me panicking about a fic 

What if I don’t want to follow the rules? I might be forced to ban you. Sorry.
