@wydmariana
though she’d been officially on the market for months now, aurora hadn’t taken the liberty of entertaining any man who made advances. she was exclusively centered around her business from this point forward and she wouldn’t allow anyone to distract her from leading the family fortune. maybe flirting with calvin would give him the wrong idea however she didn’t believe that he would take her word for it. they both had their motives for wanting to be seen together. “ you know, i hadn’t put much thought into that. if i could just get her over to another designer i bet i’d be rid of her. “ she nodded. it was nice to have someone around who understood the inter-workings of business. they could probably learn a thing or two from each other. “ i would tell you that i’ll keep my hands to myself for the evening but i don’t make promises i can’t keep. “ she muses with a laugh. it was all in good fun but perhaps she could see the two of them fooling around. “ i’ll have my stylist get with yours. i saw the most stunning tom ford suit the other day… i may be able to find something to match. “
although their relationship was just for the benefit of his family, he’d be lying if he said that their motives for wanting them together weren’t working out by itself. calvin probably spent more time talking about their family businesses with her than he had with any of his other friends. “you shouldn’t agree to mentor anyone except for who you pick, there’s no way you’d care enough to actually help her out otherwise.” or at least that was the excuse he always used. he honestly hadn’t planned on anything coming from him asking her out ---- except maybe they’d go on a date or two and hook up ---- this was arguably better. he cocked an eyebrow, “as long as i know where they are, i’m not going to have any complaints.” he almost snorted at her response to their outfits coordinating. he opted to take a sip from his wine glass instead. “already picking what i should wear. should i be expecting much more of this in the future?”

mariana laughed softly at his next comment about the shots. “you do a surprisingly amazing impression of me,” she mentioned, before tucking her bare legs under the blanket. she moved her hair over her face only enough to block the corner of her eyes from meeting the bright ceiling lights that hovered over them. “for always having to take care of me,” she replied quietly, meeting his gaze when he turned to face her. although mariana appreciated his help every time, realizing how bad the outcome could be if he wasn’t there, she felt bad for possibly ruining his night whenever he had to hold her hair back or take her shoes off or drag her into the shower in the morning. “i’m just sorry for being a mess, i guess,” she slurred genuinely.
calvin laughed and brushed imaginary dirt off his shoulder. “what can i say, i am a man of many talents. and it really does help when i’ve heard you say that exact phrase about fifty thousand times,” he teased. the laughter left his face as she continued to speak, replaced with a crinkle between his eyebrows. “mari, you don’t have to apologise for that.” he shook his head and got off the bed. “if it bothered me, you know that i wouldn’t continue to do it time after time. when do i ever do something i don’t want to?” he gave her a pointed look before crossing the room. he disappeared into the bathroom for a few moments before reappearing with a pack of makeup wipes that he proceeded to throw onto the bed next to her. “you know you’ll only bitch about it tomorrow if you don’t,” he said before she could get any protest out.
for a city of over eight million people, new york still managed to be so small. calvin almost had to do a double take when he realised that one many people headed in his direction along high street was someone he hoped he never had to see ever again. it wasn’t that they necessarily had animosity between them, but the point of ghosting someone was to avoid them for the rest of time. he should’ve known the last while of peace was too good to be true. his mind reeled back and forth with whether to acknowledge her presence or just keep walking past her and pretend he didn’t recognise her. he was just about to continue with the latter decision when their eyes locked onto each other -- too late. @dvniellas

❝ ah, so you’re telling me that those poor people running around the set and fetching stuff for other people are not doing an important and real job ? ❞ she joked, an amused smirk teasing her lips. ❝ yeah, i could ask them. but if i asked them, i wouldn’t be seeing you right now and who would make my day ? ❞ mai concluded, smiling sweetly at calvin. it had been a while since she had last seen the man, so when she heard that filming was a little ahead of schedule, she decided to call him instead of using one of the filming assistants. ❝ and you’re right for that ! no one should skip any meal. ❞ she shrugged, getting her own chopsticks and stealing food from calvin’s own box, an innocent look in her eyes. ❝ you always want to talk about me, huh ? that’s why i love you. ❞ the brunette laughed, before starting to speak about her favorite subject. ❝ well, ok, let me see. i’m dating someone new right now, it’s on the down low so don’t tell anyone. my parents still think i’m in uni and i think i’m actually about to make a career out of acting. ❞
“i never said what they’re doing isn’t important, but they’re interns for a reason, y’know?” calvin wasn’t a stranger to getting others to do his bidding for the simple reason that he didn’t want to do it himself ---- not abusing that system at least slightly was a foreign concept to him. “i mean, you could see me after work like other normal people.” not that he really minded seeing her in the middle of the day. calvin didn’t have a normal work schedule so making time for people he actually cared to keep in his life was normal. he rolled his eyes and tilted his box towards her when he saw her chopsticks incoming. he shrugged. calvin loved being the centre of attention -- when it came to frivolous, superficial things -- but when it came down to actually talking about him, he’d rather not divulge his personal life. “someone i know?” he raised his eyebrows in question at her. their social circles were close enough that he’d probably at least ehard of them. “i’m pretty sure once your parents start seeing you on the big screen, they’ll figure it out.”
miahaycs:
mia bit down on the tip of her tongue and kept her gaze on the report in her hands. the numbers swirled together as she did her best to focus on what she was supposed to be working on–but thoughts of him still managed to worm their way into her head. arrogant. cruel. bastard. liar. mia cleared her throat and pulled her hair up into a loose bun on top of her head with the black velvet scrunchie she kept on her desk, “don’t you have something better to do? i’m sure you wouldn’t want to waste your time on the opinions of your underlings.” she froze for a moment, just a second, gripping the pen in her hand so tightly that she was afraid it might snap and spill blue ink all over the annual report she spent the better part of a week formatting. “well, i believe i also loved drinking tequila from strangers’ bellybuttons. we all make mistakes in college,” she finally said, continuing to jot down some changes that needed to made to the layout for the presentation tomorrow. “because you’re all work and no play? or because you’re all play and no work?” she hummed, tucking her pen behind her ear.
calvin watched as she pulled her hair back and away from her face. ironic how he was suddenly paying actual attention to her now that everything had passed. he sucked in a breath, eyes closed for a moment before turning back to her, a smile back on his face. “better than spending time with you? i can’t imagine. you know i never saw you as an underling, mia.” it wasn’t a lie ---- he never thought of her as below him, even if that technically was the case now. his eyes scanned her body knowing he’d hit a nerve. “is that your way of implying i was a mistake?” he cocked an eyebrow before pulling up the chair from the desk next to hers and swivelling to face her. “don’t act like you hated every second of being with me.” calvin reached over and plucked the pen from her ear. “i think we both know the answer to that,” he gave her a pointed look. “office hours don’t really apply to me.”
miahaycs:
mia always loved more. she loved too hard, too quickly–too much. sometimes it felt like her heart was trying consume her, like when she felt anger, love, grief, that was all that was left of her. after matty died, she was grief, and then she met calvin, and she was infatuation. but love must have met something different for him, or he wouldn’t have used it so carelessly. “nothing suitable for the workplace,” mia said as she bushed her hair out of her face, forcing the corners of her mouth upwards into a small smile. she didn’t hate him, not really, but she hated looking at him. she hated remembering how stupid she was, how she shoved her bleeding heart into his reckless hands. “liked so much is a strong phrase,” she hummed, setting the stack of files in her hands on top of her desk. she flipped through them until she found the data on the lutathera approval. she still had to catalog the research reports and calculate the projected averages, so her patience was running thin. “no plans on a friday night? i find that hard to believe.”
“i won’t tell if you won’t. c’mon, i’d love to know exactly how you’d describe me.” he was baiting her. he knew she didn’t deserve to have him play with her any longer, but if he cared enough to stop, it meant he would have to face the facts about himself that he’d rather remain oblivious to. he had to stop himself from rolling his eyes ---- the way she was trying to act like his presence didn’t matter. “you’re right, i believe that word most commonly thrown around was ‘love’.” he threw the word into the air like he had countless times, not caring how hard it hit. calvin wanted a reaction, he didn’t do well being ignored. he had to laugh a little at her words though, “weekdays and weekends have no meaning to me.”
rcmanxnat:
it was one of those days where natalia had off and all she wanted to do when she woke up was lay about in her robe and catch up on every show she had missed the prior week because of work. that was her plan today, to do just that but the moment she got up there was a knock on her door causing her to groan just a bit. with a sigh she opened the door before her brows furrowed just a bit, “cal? what do i owe the pleasure of you being here? this early?” she questioned looking over him as she leaned against the door frame.
at the sound of the lock clicking, calvin pushed off the wall and spun around to face her. his eyebrows shot up at her attire, but he knew better than to make any verbal comment about it. “hey nat,” he offered her a smile before wincing again. “could i come in? the lighting in your hallway is killing my eyes and my head.”
frcsier:
even though they weren’t the closest friends, mai could always count on calvin to be there for her when she needed. sure, she would never tell him her biggest and darkest secrets, but she knew that if she wanted to, he would listen to her and make her feel better about herself. that was, honestly, one of the reasons she kept him around. ❝ i’m really no one in this industry right now, you know ? i don’t have that kind of power yet. if i had an assistant, i’d probably be the one having to go around doing stuff for them. ❞ she laughed, smiling poletely at people around them. ❝ i don’t know, man, craziest things have happened.❞ the brunette shrugged, watching him unpack the food before taking her favorite from the table. ❝ but tell me, what are the news in your life ? who are you fighting, who are you fucking and who are you ignoring ? ❞ mai asked, as she unwrapped her food and took a bite.
he shook his head, a hint of a smile playing at his lips. “okay, maybe not a personal assistant, but don’t you guys have those interns running around doing random things for people with real jobs here?” he grabbed one of the boxes and sat back twirling the chopsticks between his fingers. “i may do a lot of things for you, mai, but skipping a meal just isn’t one of them.” calvin groaned and rolled his eyes at the thought of having to divulge into the matters of his own life. “uh uh, you first.” and proceeded to shove food into his mouth so he was physically incapable of speaking.

calvin: so no.
calvin: but who knows, maybe yours would've played along
miahaycs:
sometimes, mia couldn’t quite believe that there was a time in her life where she not only loved him, but truly, madly, deeply loved him. she was completely infatuated for a while there–as most people were with their first real boyfriend. it was such a waste, mia thought, to have someone like calvin be the only person in the world who would ever see her whole heart. no one got everything after the first–you knew better after that. “oblivious isn’t the word i would use,” she hummed, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear. “i mean, you always know exactly what you’re doing, don’t you?” mia cleared her throat and glanced down at her heels, gnawing on the inside of her cheek, “it’s late. shouldn’t you be home by now, anyway?”
it wasn’t like calvin entered their relationship with a goal of hurting her, it just so happened that she thought it was something more than it was -- it was hardly his fault she read into it. maybe he could have handled it a little better, but it wasn’t even close to the worst he’d treated a girl before. “oh yeah?” he raised his eyebrows in question, “what word would you use then?” honestly, he was surprised she didn’t flip him off and walk away, but that wasn’t her character, not when they were together anyway. “you say that like it’s a bad thing. i’m pretty sure that’s one of the reasons you liked me so much. who wants to be stumbling through life lost anyway.” perhaps he should have taken her social cues and left her alone, but he enjoyed the way he still had an effect on her. “i had things to get done,” he shrugged. “it’s not like there’s anything special waiting at home that i desperately need to get back to.”
I had two longings and one was fighting the other. I wanted to be loved and I wanted to be always alone.

wydmariana:
as he took the water from her, mari kicked her shoes off and onto the floor, before messily lifting herself up to remove her jeans, dragging them off her drunken body and tossing them on the floor. “we never have just one or two… it’s always ten,” she responded with a chuckle, taking the water from him and sipping on it as he flopped down next to him on the bed. the brunette placed the cup on the table next to her before laying on her side to face him. “i’m sorry..” she muttered, tucking her hands under the pillow.
he groaned against the pounding in his head; he was now regretting turning on the ceiling lights when they first stumbled in. it was great for when they were trying to not trip over furniture, but now that it was directly above him, they felt like they were searing into his skull. “i blame you. ‘we have to do shots’,” he imitated her. calvin furrowed his eyebrows and turned his head to face her, “what are you apologising for?”
