Nina proceeded with caution. She didn’t want to step on any toes, as the saying went, and something about this girl made her feel like she was in the danger zone.

Alright thank you. I’ll make sure that information is given to those who need it. 

Well, I’m the official diplomat and translator on the ship so in a way yes I’m part of communications. I was sent by the Commander to receive information right away as well as to help out where available. Though it seems the staff here is more than capable.

Nice of you to say so. 

[Scaring her was not her intention, but it seemed to be happening anyway. Kitty tilted her head in a struggle to meet her eyes, then realized it was a bit silly.] 

Medical has been a mess lately. We're all on pins and needles. You know what they said about the Admiral failing the ship because of one of the nurses, don't you? 

[calypso-collantes]

Right. Yes, My apologies. Maybe you should go rest. We just need someone to go check up on Mr. Fitz Wilcox. If not could you at least tell me a bit more about his status before leaving? 

Hmm… this woman seemed not to care. Maybe she was just tired. Yes. That was probably it. To be a nurse you had to care for your patients. Right?

He was shot in the shoulder. Someone was nice enough to carry him on the way out. It's not critical, but will take a while to heal up. I think Dr. T'Mora is seeing to him right now. 

You're communications, aren't you? Why are you here again?

[calypso-collantes]

Nina looked from the girl in the nurse uniform to her PADD double checking the name that matched the face. 

No Miss…. Spiegel. You may not. I know I’m not a Doctor or a Nurse but Commander Piper put me on this duty right now. Plus, now that the team is back the injured need to be taken care of and your help can be used. 

Nina waited for the argument, it couldn’t be helped but it wasn’t needed right now. Why was she here in the med bay? To help control the traffic he had said. No one was going to respect her. But she would try her best to be helpful… which meant she would have to have the staff on duty. Though she didn’t feel much like arguing now that she knew one of her only “friends” was injured. Friend. They talked a couple of times. Senor Olivera….. she would have to check on him when she could. She brushed thoughts of him aside and prepared herself for the nurse’s retort. 

[calypso-kitty]

[She glanced behind her, then wrinkled her nose.] I was on the away team. Olivera got himself assimilated, you know. He's still got those implants, but I stopped him from turning. 

[She didn't know him and didn't particularly care to, but hearing him before it happened was enough to shake anyone up.] Tough being the only medic, but I managed. Anyway. I figured as much. What's the list say I need to do?

May I be dismissed?

[calypso-mudah]

[Oh thank God they’d actually brought in a medic, Mudah felt a little more relieved. For a second.] 

That’s the best you can do. Don’t worry, I won’t let you get in trouble —I think it would be for the best of all of us, really. 

I mean, we’re just here to pick up the doctor, then we run away and back to the ship. All cool. All nice. Right? Right.

[calypso-kitty]

That's all right. 

I hope it's that simple. But we'll all have each other's backs, right? 

[Maybe that didn't require an answer. She glanced ahead to the group they were following, and frowned a bit.] Do you know Miss Crosby, then? She looks pretty scary. 

[calypso-mudah]

[Mudah raises an eyebrow, then purses his lips as he nods happily.] Sure.

[Althought maybe it’s a bad idea. Mudah’s just sort of following Hazel. Then again, Hazel is following the Captain, so it’s all okay, right? Like, little ducks and shit.] 

So, hey, I’m Mudah, [he holds his hand out, smiling,] Security.

[calypso-kitty]

Kitty. [She takes his hand and shakes it, a bit more firm than most people might, although it doesn't make much of a difference.] Your medic. Well, everyone's, but I'm the only one. 

Never enough of us to go around, I suppose. Best for me to stay around security, then, because it'll be trouble if I get hurt.

No one really told me who to follow, so... 

I'll stay by you, if it's all right.

Alright, quick rules, you do not drift apart from the team unless permission is granted, you do not disobey my direct orders, you do not leave your weapon unattended and you do not, for any reason, get distracted. [Here, she might have eyed a member of the party. Or not.]

It’s all pretty simple and pretty damn obvious. You’ve got your tricorders and communicators, right? Any other questions?

Yes, Captain.

If you'd like, I can lag behind in case anyone gets caught up, or stay with security and head back if anyone needs me. [She taps the screen of her comm with her nails for a second, and adds:] Do you have a preference?

Kathleen Johanna Spiegel, who goes by “Kitty” or “Kit” to almost everyone that knows her, was the youngest of two sisters and an eldest brother in a well-to-do family in Brighton. Her father was a dentist and her older sister, Emma, chose to be a nurse; they both ended up finding work in civilian clinics. While she was just as interested in medicine as the rest of her family, scoring high marks in biology and having the appropriate demeanor to work with patients, she hoped for a bit more assignment; so, with the support of her family, she applied for Starfleet Medical Academy.

There, she flourished socially, but never quite rose to the top—she was a bit too dry, a bit too easy to make assumptions about. Most of her tertiary education consisted of continual blows to her ego, until she graduated at the top of her class.

Fresh from the Academy, she was assigned to the Calypso to assist away teams as a field medic, as well as work as a nurse on the sidelines. She often feels inexperienced compared to the others, but is just as much willing to prove herself.

Kitty frequently works alongside Ariel Debussy and Susana Piedad, whom she both regards as friends, although the former is somewhat dubious. She’s also met Céleste Martin and Mira Darzi tagging along with nurses, although feels inferior to them as an ensign; it’s a little easier with Jesús Olivera, who she doesn’t know well, but has heard plenty of. (There’s some teasing to be done about a lot of him.) She greatly respects Mhai and often works alongside her, and is more concerned for CMO Jude Isley than annoyed by him.
