Somehow I always end up with drawing them staring at each other (Aaron is the person sitting between them, suffering as always - bro needs to get paid for going through this daily)
it's been said before but the FUNNIEST thing about the "intricate and endless daddy issues" line is the fact that's it's not even true. like neil straight up made it up for the plot™ like no wonder kevin was freaking the fuck out because "kevin and i talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time" and they don't??? kevin was probably TWEAKING OUT and neil just kept going.
why don’t i see people talking about aaron minyard’s intricate handshakes with the eden’s bouncers. i think it’s very important

now that we canonically know that andrew hated people knowing about the assault and abuse he went through as a child, now that we know he sees it as something that will make his family lose faith in him and view him as weak, I wonder if part of his "hatred" for neil is that neil knows all of this ugly history, put himself in harm's way to protect andrew from more abuse, and still views him as this strong and steadfast person. in andrew's mind, it seems pretty black and white - he is either the protector or the victim. he spent so long building this identity as a protector, but his abuse coming to light means he is now a victim. so for neil to see him as a protector but also believe he deserves protecting as well, it shakes something pretty foundational in andrew's world view, which we know he never takes well. there are many reasons andrew hates neil, but this makes for a very interesting development.
so this is where the bet about andreil that allison won started
neil josten:
neil accidentally sits closer to andrew than he meant to. he tries to move to create some distance again, respecting his personal space, but as soon as he does, andrew subtly shifts his body over and presses their legs against each other. andrew isn’t looking at him, he keeps his bored stare on the t.v, and responds a simple “cold.”
neil didn’t leave that spot for hours.
Ngl I'm a little shocked Neil hasn't bitten someone (to my knowledge) in Canon. He seems like the type
neil: i've been on the run my entire life, nothing i own is real, not my id, not my name or my appearance
andrew: that looks like a person with a legit driver's license i'm gonna give him my brand new car
Nora really said “ok so here’s two guys who’ve never experienced a kind touch their entire lives that are learning how to give and receive kind touch with eachother…oh and the mafia’s involved” and i was so down for it
DEMURE! DEMURE! DEMURE! DEMURE!
How cute would it be if Andrew notices Neil getting all blushy and flustered when Andrew blocks impossible shots and just goes above and beyond as a goalie.
So he actually starts doing it on purpose when Neil's around just to get that reaction (and ego stroke and Neil pampering him after as a reward for being the best goalie ever, he pampers Andrew anyway but Andrew being great at Exy gets some favourable reactions from him and Andrew likes that). Everyone's thrilled cause Andrew is not only trying but actually playing at an insane level (even if it's just to make his boyfriend swoon).
The downside is if Neil has to miss practice, Andrew practically sits in the goal and sulks uncaring.
At one point Andrew actually broke Exy records during a game. He will probably enter the exy hall of fame for how he defended the goal that night.
Why?
Cause a few weeks before the game Kevin showed them highlights from the other team and Neil went on and on about how amazing their goalie was, he meant nothing by it other than one player showing respect for another players game.
And Andrew said nothing but went very still. Then that night humiliated the whole team, but especially that asshat goalie who can't hold a candle to him. Mission accomplished Neil barely remembered the other dudes name too busy fawning and fanboying over the way Andrew played.
Kevin is conflicted cause yes Andrew is trying but as Kevin's best friend can Andrew not turn his moms sport into a werid sex thing with Neil?
All for the game is just all around mental. Like even the name 'All for the game' shows that Neil gave up every rule he had ever abided by for the danm stick ball game. He fell in love, he stayed in one place for too long, he was the center of attention. Neil could have ran at any time but he gave it up, all for the game.
I think an early and overlooked aspect of why Andrew starts liking Neil is simply that Neil is the first person to casually engage with him on his level
Nicky, Aaron, and Kevin love him but they don’t really get him in every day interactions. It’s a lot of “… Ok, whatever you say, Andrew.”
And we know the upperclassmen tend to just outright dislike anything he says or does and uses it as proof of him being heartless and violent
Renee gets the closest because she does get him and goes along with him but they ultimately have very different views of life
Whereas Neil, before he even likes Andrew at all, just matches his energy.
“If I can’t get an answer from you, I’ll get it wherever I can. How about I start with your parents?”
“Good luck,” Neil said, feeling cold all over. “They’re dead.”
“Did you kill them?”
He [Andrew] said it so casually, like he was asking for the time, that Neil could only stare at him for a minute. It was such an unreasonable leap of logic Neil didn’t understand how he even thought to ask it. Then he remembered who he was talking to and asked, “Did you kill yours?”
—
“Neil said. "I'm not afraid of you."
“That's why you're so interesting," Andrew said. "How aggravating."
He sounded amused, not annoyed, so Neil said, "I'll try to be more boring in the future."
“How considerate.”
—
And for a guy who desperately wants connection and has never fully gotten it, it must have been as close to fun as Andrew has getting to bounce back and forth with Neil. He could threaten to saw Neil in half with a rusty blade and Neil will just be like “Hotdog or hamburger style?”
I firmly believe there is only one reason Andreil would ever get married and that’s so Neil can send a copy of their marriage certificate to agent Browning where his name is change again to Neil Josten-Minyard with a post-it note saying:
Oups! I did it again <3
