Concept:

Mike calling Nancy in Boston to ask her when she’s getting back together with Jonathan, because it’s dumb that she’s single when she’s probably writing his name in the margin of her notebooks.

Nancy calling Mike to ask him if he was dumb. He hesitates for a minute, thinking about it. Nancy uses that opportunity to tell her brother that he has heart eyes for Will.

Both of the Wheeler siblings knew one thing for sure, the Byers brothers had them in a chokehold.

Pretty wild how the show treats the teens and how it treats the kids. They can’t help but infantilize the kids, even when they’re not kids anymore.

Nancy/Jonathan/Steve are allowed to have flaws.

Nancy’s a brat in the first two episodes (Natalia’s delivery of “because Mikes friend gets lost in the woods” is so good). Jonathan is a creep. Steve is a douchebag. They fight each other, fight with each other, fuck each other, drink and smoke and drive cars.

The kids are the same age in season five as the teens were in season one and yet they’re allowed none of it. Even Dustin’s flaw is that he’s grieving TOO much. Which, lol. Nancy’s not a brat because she’s just TOO good, she’s a brat because she’s a spoiled 15-16 year old girl.

They really were like “nope these kids aren’t fucking.” Even though they should be fucking! They’re juniors in high school!

I think the show got a lot of buzz for having a bunch of adorable, talented child actors with good chemistry play their own ages in the first season, and the creators and/or Netflix never learned to gracefully accept that this couldn’t last forever on any kind of multi-season show, let alone one that was filmed over roughly a decade. Season 5 is so much more egregious, though, even though I’m pretty sure all the actors were adults when it was shot.

And the thing is, there are multiple things Jonathan does to earn Nancy's trust in s1 like oh I don't know believing her about Barb, telling her about the rabbit, answering her honestly when she asks what she was saying the second time, not abandoning her in the woods when she disappeared.

But even ignoring that or the apology or the explanation, there's also the entire bedroom scene where he tells her that he can go home and Nancy says no, that she doesn't want to be alone. (Which is echoed by Jonathan but he was ok to leave if it made her more comfortable) But even after that, Jonathan is sleeping on the floor. It's not until Nancy asks him to come up that he does, and even then he's on top of the blankets.

Like, that scene exists to show the trust and like establishment of boundaries. TO THE POINT that now it's Steve on the outside peering in!

Why do people think that Dustin is eons smarter than Mike? Sure, he went to science camp one time, but he canonically fails classes just like Mike. The two of them just have different skillsets. Dustin is an engineer while Mike is a physicist. Dustin built a radio while Mike built a bomb.

They’re best friends. They’re in the same clubs. They have the same interests. They’re friends because they’re both equally smart.
