a long time coming, Iâm doing commissions!
There's this clip from a few years back where Steve Blum talks about Zeb's relationship with Kallus and I'm just wondering why nobody has ever mentioned the fact that he just straight up said that Zeb might be pregnant with Kallus's child!
on a roadtrip through Canada finally drawing Heated Rivalry + a bonus Kalluzeb
it is kind of wild that one of the very few queer Star Wars characters to exist in the franchise is being treated like he never existed in the first place, and his partner gets these insignificant cameos but never gets to mention him, and the characters who knew them never acknowledge their relationship, and we havenât seen them together since 2018, AND YET Star Wars has since done promo with them as a couple, and yet refuse to acknowledge them as a couple in the actual shows and movies.

Fuck you Disney these characters are queer :)

I met Dee Bradley Baker!! (In Echo cosplay!)
I had voice memo recording in my pocket while I was talking to him, so I got most of what he said and wanted to share!
I brought up CX-2 (cause I had to) and said that he was a really intriguing character and that I wanted to cosplay him next and he said:
âOh! Yeah, really scary. That was a weird one to play, cause I did a slower clone voice but they fudged it some so it sounds different. Really lethal, frighteningâ
We also touched on Crosshair and Echo having really incredible stories after I mentioned they were my favorite.
Then this was his response to me telling him I really thought CX-2 was Tech (which crushed me a bit inside đŤ ) :
âOh a lot of people did. Iâm glad he wasnât. I want Tech to have his heroic moment. The ending that every clone wish they had. That you save your colleaguesâŚitâs brilliant, the way he figures it all out, he makes the long shot, and it was good.â
My heart literally dropped when he said âIâm glad he wasnâtâ like OH ouch (even though I 100% still believe CX-2 was Tech and Deeâs just glad it was never confirmed to be him)
Being so honest: I felt a bit empty after the autograph interaction after Iâd had so much anxiety leading up to meeting him, but in retrospect he was very nice!! He said he was impressed with my armor and took a picture of me, which is crazy what do you mean Iâm on his camera roll-
I saw him again later to get a picture, and I said âThanks for the hand!â (my friend suggested I say that) And he smiled and said âthatâs a great lineâ which was a very nice close to the interaction.
Hereâs the autograph, he signed my scomp arm!!
So. Iâm. Haunted by the lighting and posing on the CX-2 poster, haunted by the fact that no one will straight up say that Tech is dead or that he wasnât CX-2, wondering if the CX-Tech plot wasnât dropped after all, and hoping against hope that theyâre putting this man through the wringer so they can pull him out and give him the happiest possible ending. CX-2 had BETTER be in the next series and he had better be Tech, because I need this to make sense. I mean, Iâll buy that the spear symbolically killed the CX-2 persona. Iâll buy, âOh, he had to be Crosshairâs shadow in the last third of this series but we had to foreshadow him being Tech in the next one.â âThe damage you sustained on Skako Minor all of your behavioral modifications,â coming back around. Iâll buy someone surviving that in the GFFA because they can in the real world (warning for a picture of a real life injury in the link). Iâll even buy that the electricity didnât kill him because the boulders and the waterfall definitely should have (and itâs Star Wars). I really do not care about plausible survivability. I just want the story to make sense and for Tech to get back to his family.
Anyway all Iâm saying is why release a poster thatâs going to fuel speculation about a guy whose face we never see after the series is done and out? If you actually dropped that plot, why not change the poster? Or just not release it? Why do this? What is the purpose of this?? Because if the purpose was to drive me, specifically, insane, then congratulations, Lucasfilm! Mission accomplished.
Seriously the poster drives me to insanity. Why is the lighting so warm when all the other dark side posters are primarily white or sometimes red lighting? Why is he posed the same as all the other non-Omega batchers in their group poster? If it was really all about the evil batchers as a group why is CX-2 the only one on the poster? If CX-2 was nobody the entire goddamn time and just a dark vision of Crosshair why did they make him SO TECH CODED that literally everyone picked up on it including some people that thought Tech was dead before this guy turned up?
Why?
Not?
Show us?
His?
Face?
Sometimes I just stare at that poster of CX-2 and I know in my soul that he's Tech. They "Tech coded" him so much, played his Plan 99 music, and gave him 'good' lighting; I can not see that character as anyone else but Tech. My only hope is that they have future plans for him, because I am just as haunted, salty, and going mad about it.
Here's the thing that convinces me. In order to Tech code him so thoroughly without it being either Tech or an intentional misdirect you would need to:
Accidentally kill Tech off ambiguously to begin with while accidentally leaving his return open as a possibility
Accidentally write him like Tech AND accidentally write Hemlock's lines in the finale like he CXed Tech
Have DBB accidentally VOICE him with Tech cadence
Accidentally storyboard him with exact parallels to Tech scenes
Accidentally animate him moving like Tech
Accidentally light him like he's Tech or at least has the possibility of turning to the right side eventually
Accidentally score his sceneslike he's Tech
Have multiple people accidentally imply he's alive through this whole ordeal
This consists of at least 4-5 different departments that are coordinating to create the story that makes it to our screen. This is not as simple as taking one small thing and running away with it, it's several things that add up into a bigger picture, and it's present on every level of production. So either it's an intentional misdirect that they refuse to admit to, or there's something more they can't say either because it was cut by higher up order or because there's more planned. If this were a one off show that would be one thing, it would be over and done, but as we know Star Wars LOVES to put things in different shows. So I'm very curious about upcoming animation projects and what they might know already.
Reblogging again for that addition and preserving these tags:
They recontextualized the ENTIRETY of the second half of Rebels with Tales of the Empire; they can recontextualize this no problem.
I mean something clearly changed (see: the picture of the autographed finale script numbered as episode #316). Whether money or time or some higher power-that-is call to ditch major plot points-
The first half of the season is simply winding up a different ending than happened.
First, I am so glad Iâm not alone in this. I cannot view CX-2 without the subtext that he is Techâs body. Part of me wants to hope that maybe in a tales of the clones weâll get some more CX-2 but I really donât know.
I think the way he was killed was the show telling us that there was none of the old Tech left in him, his body was simply reanimated and Hunter killing him was symbolically putting an end to the horrible tool Hemlock had turned him into. (I also think Crosshair knew he was Tech, he kept glancing back at him after he died)
But there could have been a fragment of Tech still in there, and weâll never know. And thatâs what i think was lost in a reveal. They left us with the haunting idea that he could have been Tech, and that was it.
That being said, I got to meet Dee Bradley Baker at a con recently, and guys I wanted answers. I told him I really thought CX-2 was Tech (meant to say I really think he was Tech), and he immediately said âOh, a lot of people did. But Iâm glad he wasnât.â OH OUCH that instantly crushed me! He proceeded to talk about how he wanted Tech to have his heroic moment, and that he believed his sacrifice was good.
And how do you respond to that đ
Iâm glad he was satisfied with the ending of his character, but to me that doesnât mean CX-2 wasnât supposed to be him at one point, and heâs glad they didnât go that direction. Heck, letâs take a leap here and say maybe he recorded voice lines for a reveal that was scrapped and heâs glad it didnât happen that way. Cause letâs be real, Tech being CX-2 it is a horribly sad thing, and a heroic sacrifice is a much better ending for the character than mind controlled imperial soldier, so I donât blame Dee for not wanting that.
In conclusion, no one will ever be able to convince me CX-2 wasnât Tech, even Dee Bradley Baker
(I do need to say he was a very lovely man and we talked about other characters too)
