yes i love chameron. But I also lowk ship chase/thirteen (shoot me ig)
ppl say they’re “sibling coded” and i just… no?? lmfao, the canon show won’t let you. chase literally propositions her for sex in Now What? (s7e01) before she goes on leave (jail as we later discover). she deadpans “does that method ever work?” and he goes “at least once.” it’s cheeky, but it’s also the show calling back to Insensitive (s3e14) and making it clear this is flirtation, not family energy. he’s not playing coy; he sees the deadline and shoots his shot, even telling her he wanted to play the long game but she hindered his plan.
the moment that actually sells the dynamic for me is the small “car” bit in Private Lives (s6e15). earlier in that episode chase proves a point about his looks by asking a nurse to borrow her car and getting the keys instantly. then he tries it on thirteen: “can i borrow your car?” and she smiles and flat out says “no”. it’s tiny, but it tells you everything: he’s testing whether his face will get him things; she refuses to play into it and gives him advice instead. she’s the one person who both understands the insecurity and won’t indulge the coping mechanism. that’s not sibling energy; that’s boundary setting flirt-adjacent comfort.
they also meet in the darker places. The Dig (s7e18) cracks open her prison secret, and by After Hours (s7e22) she asks him for help with her friend who’s been stabbed (eventually admitting she was in jail and that was her cellmate) and is refusing to go to hospital. chase eventually stops her from doing something that would send her back inside by forcing her friend and thirteen into going to ppth, but he doesn’t exactly moralise her to pieces; he helps. later she thanks him and tells him about her brother, and how he could never understand (or so she thinks LMAO). that’s trust you can build on. and like. the wild part is they’re both people who have actually killed someone. not in a “oops malpractice” way but in a “looked at the situation and made the call” way. for “the greater good.” and that’s a level of gravity most characters on this show will never touch. they know what that feels like, the weight of it, and they carry it. that connects them way deeper than just banter or workplace crush vibes. it’s this unspoken “i see you, i get it, i’ve been there.” and honestly, that’s something cameron and him could never have, she’d never be able to live with it / connect with him on that level the way thirteen can.
and yeah, i don’t think they’d ever have a happy ending. that’s glaringly obvious. Thirteen is living w huntington’s and eventually wants to have her life taken before it progresses. at best you get a brief, honest connection that burns bright because it can’t last, a kiss-that-didn’t-happen turned into coffee, quick confidences in hospital corridors, the kind of tenderness you offer when time is short; the ship works precisely because it’s finite.
so yes, i’m cameron’s lawyer and i still see the chase/thirteen spark and honestly lean into them more, esp during my rewatch. he tries the direct route in Now What? because she’s leaving; she clocks it, teases him, and goes. later they settle into a small, real intimacy that never tips into full blown romance. read it as doomed, not domestic but beautiful because it can’t last, and honest because they both know it.
