julien, (he/him) and i'm doing this a second time i guess. i'm so embarrassing
i am a transmasculine butch who loves women dearly queerly
i am an aspiring artist and writer who gets involved with fandom sometimes. (honestly less and less as the days go by i lost my spark) sometimes i have opinions. very scary.
this blog is my bullshit arena nothing important here
Ways to make everyone instantly uncomfortable: If someone casually mentions some apparently commonly known fact that you hadn't heard of before, you can always say "oh, that's a real thing? I thought that it was just a porn trope."
I imagine there's been at least two christmas-themed New Zealand porn films featuring sex on the beach, but the implication that there'd be enough to make up their own genre, and have it be someone's favourite genre to the point that they assume that the circumstances are just a porn trope, would have killed me on the spot also.
Cause of Death: finding out your friend is so into such a hyperspecific brand of NZ porn they believed the axial tilt of our planet was made up for said porn.
It's probably too long to go on a tombstone, but I'd say least make sure it got into the obituary.
I've been iffy about posting this one, it's not at all like what I would prefer to make. So...obviously this isn't just a trans allegory. I mean I would love to be able to be a nightmarish eldritch creature of flesh and metal, but that's not the main point of these renderings.
I'm tired of insatiable greed dominating the world. I'm tired of being squeezed for more and more while making less and less. I'm tired of not even being able to help everyone I care about, let alone my broader community.
Imagine having an incomprehensible amount of wealth and choosing to increase it further instead of making lives better. I will never understand billionaires or our corporate overlords.
when applied to drinks, "dry" means "without sugar". therefore it follows that sugary drinks can be called "wet". the meanings of the terms "hot" and "cold" when applied to drinks are obvious. thus the aspect of any drink can be determined.
for instance, green tea, freshly steeped and served without additives, is hot and dry, and therefore has an aspect of fire.
a mocha, on the other hand, while hot, is sweet, and therefore wet, and thus has an an aspect of air.
lemonade, which is wet and cold, has a water aspect.
finally, the drink which most epitomizes the earth aspect, being both cold and dry, is vodka
i'll be the second or third person to criticize the magnus archives in terms of representation, but i really love the show's motive for their queer rep. characters get together because it makes sense, and if those relationships are queer, they're queer. everyone's bi until proven otherwise. and i think it's really cool not only for that but to see earnestly done gay relationships created by straight writers is nice.
this is definitely something that's been said before but i'm thinking about it anyway.
especially with even queer writers still partaking in queerbaiting with certain recent shows, it's nice to see a show that explicitly has gay relationships, not as a quota marker, not because it's the focus, but because it just makes sense.
So you know how in EP 179 Basira says to Jon, "You apologize too much", to which he replies, "Martin says the same thing", and then Basira says, "Like he's any better"?
So yeah, this little interaction inspired me to crunch some numbers. And believe it or not, but Martin is, in fact, better!
Statistically speaking.
Over 5 seasons, Jon apologizes 122 times, while Martin apologizes 91 times.
The main difference between these two is that Jon apologizes more frequently and for everything (especially in S5), whereas Martin piles up multiple 'sorry's per apology.
Nothing illustrates that better than this little tidbit, which coincidentally comes from EP 179, as well!
EP 179 is *also* The Most Sorry Episode™: it sits at 9-4 with Martin in the lead!
Impressive work all around! (I'm incredibly concerned. These two need help.)
edit with a few notes under cut:
Since this post was (is?) getting a lot more traction than I expected (not gonna lie, a bit spooked), I should probably add a few notes regarding the data.
Most importantly, I only counted the regretful kind of "sorry", and so dismissed the instances where "sorry" was used as a substitute for "come again?", "huh?" or "my condolences", or was said in a sarcastic manner. There were a few cases which kind of blurred the line, but I ultimately decided to add them to the count, as well.
For obvious reasons, the 'sorry's read out from Statements weren't counted.
Also, Martin's total for Season 1 *technically* comes up to 7 total apologies. The additional 2 come from EP 161, specifically the birthday tape, – but I think it makes more sense to attribute them to Season 1 Martin.
Here's a fun little tidbit: Martin's first apology appears in EP 23, and Jon's – in EP 32. Because why *wouldn't* they mirror each other in something inconsequential?
Now, to the folks asking for the density stats I'd like to say: first, thank you for supporting independent research – second, I'll have to disappoint you. I have no idea what that implies or how to make that happen. I'm not a math person :(
Also, and this is just my opinion, but I don't really see the need for that sort of thing (but I'm not a stat nerd /affectionate, so maybe I just don't get the hype). The graph above, to me, perfectly illustrates the evolution of Jon and Martin's "apology tendencies".
Anywho, while I'd love to plunge even deeper into this particular research hole, I sadly do not have the time at the moment!
I would've loved to analyze what exactly these two apologize for, especially in S5. (Where they're on an even playing field, y'know? I feel like their "apology tendencies" are the most prevalent there). But alas.
Maybe some other time. Or perhaps someone else is willing to pick up the mantle...
this is someone who is not transmasculine and is not a trans man, using us and associating with us to further her own agenda. she is using us as a shield, with absolutely no thought to the consequences this is going to have for us in particular.
the choice to exclude trans women and fem sexual violence victims and survivors only, while making room for cis people, cis men, is potentially the most upsetting thing about this. deeply reprehensible. this is really one of those moments you remember really anyone out there can make a blog and pass themselves off as a voice that has any idea of what they are talking about.
trans women and trans fems who are survivors of intracommunity violence, i love you, i am so incredibly sorry any of this is happening. please take care of yourselves, wishing you a lifetime of safety and healing.
"Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.
If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
But particularly women, and especially black women.
i love my body in a lot of ways but I feel so much shame over it. why am I so concerned with everyone else's feelings on my body.
in my head i'm like "well technically this part of my body is ugly" but I like it? I like my weight I like my nose I like my body hair? but i'm still self conscious because nobody else does :c
