hi. i'm joan cuddytism and this is my blog. lisa cuddy is my current special interest, hence the url.

i like to analyze (many would say overanalyze…) house md a lot, & my analysis posts tend to get lengthy!! i'm not a writer or anything by trade i just have an overactive brain and go insane if i don't share my thoughts. but i've been told my posts are alright :)

i also talk about music (in it's relation to the show & characters) a lot. it's another special interest of mine — it's a part of the deal.

i think there were better ways to do what this arc does for house and cuddy without bringing back this character specifically

who do you think they should've brought back? like I agree that Lucas isn't a good fit for Cuddy, but as you said she doesn't have much of a social life, so reusing an old character fits more than suddenly introducing Cuddy's never-seen-before male friend. and I doubt she'd leave Rachel alone with a male stranger she only met a few weeks earlier, so that crosses out the dating site option.

thank you so much for asking. and for your input!!! you're right on the money here. i’ll cut to the chase and say: my line of thinking, most recently, has been along the lines of “s6 but instead of luddy it’s wuddy”

this comes with the (hopefully obvious) disclaimer that i’m not a wuddy shipper — probably the last person who would actually ship them — but that i think it would work for what the show was trying to do in that season with those characters. pairing cuddy and wilson together is far from unheard of for the show, and i think that it would have made for an even more interesting arc. house having to deal not only with cuddy and wilson both being in relationships, but them being in a relationship with each other is a concept that has been eating away at house for seasons. to see it become a reality, especially in the state he’s in in s6, would be a very interesting predicament for everyone involved.

outside of house misery, i do think it just kinda… makes sense, in a way, for what was being done with both characters. with what they seem to (want to) want. cuddy and wilson getting together out of this shared desire for normalcy and “settling down” — especially after seeing house go off the rails — makes sense! it’s kinda what was already being done with both of them and lucas and sam respectively, but gets rid of the need for bringing in those characters. and i’m all for strengthening the cast we have without needing to add to the bloat of it. i think often about how lucas and sam are not really their own characters, just plot devices, despite the amount of episodes they’re there (and supposed to be important) for. i think having Wuddy Real would just… in general provide more character development for everyone involved and cease the need for bringing in unnecessary side characters. also it would be MESSY AF! a lot more to dig into there with having two og characters, especially the two with the most significance to house, get together. the more drama the better imoooo

i think the main cross to bear here is going without wilson being house’s “advisor” when it comes to cuddy. which really… idk, i don’t feel like it’s super necessary to tell the story that’s being told. house is mostly self-directed in what he chooses to do anyway. and it doesn’t mean that he can’t still queen out with wilson it just means that there’s a lot of forced proximity between the three. which is fucking awesome.

are cuddy and wilson necessarily attracted to each other? i think the answer is that they could both condition themselves into believing it if they tried hard enough. which i think is what was happening with their arcs in this season anyway (just directed elsewhere). i think the conflict of wuddy being together but still individually dealing with the fallout and meaning of what happened at the end of s5 (for cuddy) and trying to keep house preoccupied and safe (for wilson) as well as wilson and house living together and house still pursuing cuddy is… sooooooo juicy and dramatic and would keep that plotline central without feeling like it’s shoehorning in a character/ship (lucas/luddy) we have no reason to care about. and it gets rid of the fucking sam plotline because who cares. what was the purpose of that.

i think the collaboration of cuddy’s desire for normalcy and stability & wilson’s desire to be seen as a Good, Stable Guy is something that could have been played with. i think it gives a deeper reasoning for the relationship and for what it means than the ones that each character got in reality. leaves room for a lot more to be (overtly) said about these characters and their… well, relationships to relationships. and their relationships to house.

of course, this is still just a thought experiment lol! maybe there’s something i’m completely overlooking. but i do think there was potential there.

i have a lot of things i could say about bombshells. i feel like i could write an essay about Get Happy alone. but i think the viewpoint that's currently interesting me most is that of seeing it as, functionally, cuddy's narrative endpoint. her closing chapter, if you will. because bombshells is the last real cuddy focus episode (though this may differ depending on how you view moving on) and it hits on like. a Lot of things that are so key to her character. i'm not quite sure how to describe it in full yet.

you can headcanon a character as queer. that's fine, we all do it. but you can not get mad when said character isn't included in posts about canonically queer characters. because they are not queer in canon. if they come out, they'll be included.

"it's true to me because I want it to be true" is great and fine and wonderful in the context of fiction, but you cannot under any circumstances deliberately confuse the issue by pretending or insisting or joking that it's actually a real part of the source material.

You have to acknowledge that a separation exists between what you have made up about the characters from nothing and what's actually included in the story as text or you lose all grasp on media literacy.

btw the "women aren't written in a compelling way" argument quickly falls flat when the people who say these things also happen to be fans of MEN who aren't written well. you can argue that its the system which is misogynistic all you want, but drooling over a gimmick-y trope-y male character a second after tells me all i need to know

one take that i see kinda often that always tickles me is "cuddy should've haunted the narrative in s8" because like.... she does. in a pretty noticeable way. just because she's rarely mentioned by name doesn't mean she isn't haunting the narrative. because her absence (and the consequences of the events that led to her absence) is kinda a huge factor in what makes season 8 the way that it is. maybe this is because serious discussion of s8 is so limited. maybe it's because a lot of cuddy fans refuse to watch it. maybe it's because s8 "returns to form" in such a way that makes a lot of people underplay its differences. maybe there's a million different reasons. but, at least in my eyes, cuddy's absence is felt all through s8 and that season would be. pretty different. if not in substance than at the very least in tone, if she were still there. house as a character (our protagonist, let's remember) is influenced, not minutely, by her absence, by the events that caused her absence. she haunts the fuck out of this season!!! what do you meannnn

rthis question has lowkey been taking me out because the real answer is i don't knowwow. she's not even a person in the show because she is. 2/3 years old in s7. any concept of who rachel could be when she grows up is based almost entirely upon headcanon, or within the realm of parental influence (however many traits/interests she could possibly procure from cuddy's influence), so nobody fuckin knows. she could be in a really intense emo phase rn for all we know. she could be normal as hell. she could be anything.

buzzkill metaposter disclaimer aside, what remains is the idea of cuddy being forced to listen to jane remover, which puts a smile on my face. so for that alone, i say: sure, why the hell not.
