Apparently some people are somehow interpreting this as “hey STUPID MILLENNIALS, you’re SO STUPID, HERE’S A POST TO TEACH YOU NOT TO BE SO STUPID” rather than the actual meaning of “hey guys, these industries have nothing but contempt for us, so here’s how to screw them over and save money”

If there was a way to run SUPER MEGA AD BLOCKER on this website I fucking would
“Please oh please open up your computer to a porn virus! If you don’t you’re evil!”
Freeloader Comin’ through!
We didn’t start this war internet users have with ads - We might have moaned about banner ads, but it was only when they started making noises when we might be listening to music or a podcast or whatever, causing two sound sorces at once, that we started trying to block ads universally rather than just a specific type of ad (pop ups).
And since then ads have gotten worse - Actual malware rather than merely breaking one of the fundamental sins of web design - though shalt not autoplay anything with sound. And the more aggressive a website is with ‘please turn off adblock’ the less I trust it to bother to vet ads and advertisers to make sure they’re not installing malware.
Not to mention that the idea that avoiding ads is “freeloading” is hilariously backward. Advertisement is a transaction between the platform and the advertiser, the user has no obligation to provide the views/clicks the platform has promised. Using an adblocker isn’t freeloading in the same way that leaving the room to get a snack during a commercial break isn’t cheating the tv network.
Ok y’all, I work as a web developer and I’m here to tell you that you are 100% right and that it’s shit. SO I’m going to tell you how to get around websites that block you from using their website if you’re using an adblocker.
Every website uses a language called JavaScript; long story short it’s a website language that allows developers to do the crazy shit you see on websites. Now the easiest thing to do is to disable JavaScript to stop them from knowing you have an adblocker:
Oh no! I’m blocked from viewing the website. It would be a terrible shame if I were able to right click and select the “inspect” feature
Click the three dots in the top right and open the “Settings” Menu
And then scrolled down to “Debugger” and checked the “Disable Javascript Option”
And then just refreshed the page

How to get html color text [homestuck edition]
═══════════════════════════════════════════ ok. so. First you start a new post and write what you want to write:
then go to the gear in the corner and change the text editor from rich text to HTML.
═══════════════════════════════════════════ This is the code for making the font similar to courier new:
<p><b><code>These are my words<br></code></b></p> <b> makes it bold <code> changes the font ═══════════════════════════════════════════ It looks like this in the preview:
═══════════════════════════════════════════ Heres the code for color:
without the font change its: <p><span style=“color: #(HEXICODE)”>These are my words<br></span></p> ═══════════════════════════════════════════ but what about the color? well luckily google’s got you covered:
now we add it to the code

oh this is a life saver
So these are both “Aw Fuck I’m outta real food” meals BUT ALSO: if you’re learning how to cook, these are great “baby steps” meals to learn how to cook basics into something enjoyable without “wasting” anything expensive. Though I maintain that even cooking screw-ups are valuable in terms of lessons learned.
Also they’re great for when you get absorbed in something and you realize your blood sugar is dropping and you need to make something Quick.

How to put “wrote fan-fiction” on your résumé:
Leveraged an inventory of established fictional character and setting elements to generate a disruptive custom-curated narrative entertainment asset.
I worked in HR, handling applications and interviews, and if someone turned in that string of techno babble nonsense, I would have rejected them out of hand.
A resume doesn’t need to sound fancy or overly technical, it needs to tell us why we should hire you.
“Independent novelist/writer” is more than sufficient here. If you want to express the skills that fan fiction taught you, something like, “creative writing, editing, and publication,” will get you a lot further than… Whatever that just was.
A resume should be tailored to the position, if you can afford the time and energy for that. But if not, then just think about what writing got fandom taught you. How to respond to criticism, how to present a professional pubic face, how to correct punished mistakes, creative thinking, project planning, persuasion via emotional leverage, html formatting, office suite fluency.
There are a lot of actual, marketable skills that go into fan fiction.

When buying a laptop, choose based more on the product family than the brand.
What most people don’t understand about laptops is that the brand is less important than the product family. For example, Dell, HP, and Lenovo all make good laptops and crappy laptops. In general you want to buy only products from their ‘business class’ families. For Dell that mean Latitude. For HP it means EliteBook. (I’m not as familiar with the Lenovo product families.)
These companies offer lower priced, consumer-grade models but avoid these as the design and build quality are inferior to their business-class offerings.
