My shitty contribution to the Ralselle solidarity fanarts. I am with both Kris and Susie here they should kiss and transition, methinks.
The thing I appreciate most about the locked tomb series is that its doing something that most current media has given up on: trusting the audience to pay attention. There is nothing simple about this book, but Muir is very intentional with the parts she explicitly explains. Enough is left for the readers to connect and conclude for themselves. I appreciated being slightly confused the entire time reading Nona. It felt good to actually need to think critically about what I was consuming.
Reading old books gets an extra layer of fun when you start to piece together how all these historical eras run together. The heroes of one era become the stodgy out-of-touch parents of the next. 1920s Bright Young Things are calling people "Victorians" in an "okay, Boomer" way. Victorian novels have Regency rakes hanging around like old hippies. Regency novels have old Georgians who still powder their hair. It's just fun to see the mixing of generations, the mix of old and new, because history's not neat little boxes, it's life all jumbled together.
I can't get enough of middle aged people in the 1930s speaking nostalgically about their youths in "The Nineties"
i know it's a tv show and not real but it is crazy how many young women just voluntarily travel with the Doctor right after meeting him. girl never depend on a man!! this is important in terms of income but also very important in terms of your ability to get back home!! instead of getting alpine divorced you could get space divorced or 1600s divorced!!
though i guess they do tend to get space killed... but not on purpose by the Doctor!
so many amazing words in the english language. you have clandestine and precarious and serendipity and iconoclast and then you also have staunch and sludge and slurp and smudge
every day i walk into work and my manager says “here is the rule you must enforce” and i go “got it bossman” and i spend a couple days enforcing the rule and then my manager comes up to me and says “why are you enforcing the rule? we changed the rule yesterday and didn’t tell you” and i go “ok bossman new rule it is” and then a customer comes in asking to break the new rule and i say “sorry you can’t it’s the rule” and they say “but you don’t understand the rule doesn’t apply to me” and then my manager comes out and says “they’re right the rule doesn’t apply to them” and i ask why and my manager says “it just doesn’t.” and then the next day we get rid of the rule entirely and no one remembered it existed in the first place.
anyway this sounds like a metaphor for neurodivergence or something but it’s not this is just my fucking life
thinking about how despite how much they hate(d) each other it was always harrow making almost borderline flirty comments at gideon. 'i wouldve thought youd like to see my girlish and vulnerable heart,' 'or i may start to like it,' gideon going 'why did i have to be born so attractive' and harrow just saying 'because everyone would have throttled you otherwise' (ie not denying it). gideons flirty-ish comments were like an annoying jab at her side but harrows comments always came out like they wanted to hit right under her skin. ianthe was so right harrow IS a romantic

The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.
Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.
No carb, engine don’t start. No protein, engine dies out fast.
Easy carb add on:
Cookie
Fruit (canned or fresh)
Chips
Piece of bread
Popcorn
Crackers
Easy protein add on:
Nuts
Spoonful of nut butter
Cheese
Roasted chickpea snacks
Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
Small canned sausages or similar
Sugar in there.
I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
He said no way 🥹
All this discourse over who does "painting with light"
Hiroshi Nagai's paintings need sunglasses to look at.
They look like how it feels to walk across a parking lot on a 98° summer day without a speck of shade in sight.
They look like heaven but also like you'd burn your bare feet on the ground.
Even when you can see shade you know it's not enough and the minute you step out you'll be burnt to a crisp like a vampire.
And it's BEAUTIFUL
I'll throw in the wonderful Eizin Suzuki into this ring too, a man whose work just breathes light without actually using dynamic lighting in the usual way. It's no surprise both Nagai and Suzuki are both considered prolific in art pertaining to the city pop genre because they're able to paint these kinds of scenes with a delicate touch.
This feels like I could trip on that radio and fall right into that water, feeling the crystal waves as I drop in.
And this, a nice stroll down a resort strip, where my sunscreened skin could literally feel cooked if I leaned too close to the tiling.
And then a nice stretch of summer street, wherein you could see your face in the flushed red of that car provided it didn't blind you from its sunny reflections.
I don't think I even need to say anything more, Suzuki's a massive influence in how he even places colours so warmly in such unorthodox manner. It's a naturally sunkissed talent~ 🌊
love the word fruitless. arguing with you is like if there was no apples involved whatsoever
you're bountiless you stupid bitch
my take on genderbent girlgrace is that she wouldn't be butch, though not because she'd dress differently from how guygrace does in the movie, but because grace's movie costumes just aren't particularly masc. a woman wearing knit sweaters, jeans, and graphic tees generally doesn't read as gender nonconforming, those are pretty gender neutral looks. the most capital-m Masculine outfit grace has the whole film is the one he wears in class at the beginning, and even then if you just lose the blazer and tie that's exactly how a bunch of my female teachers dressed in middle and high school. I think a fem grace has hair long enough to tie back and wears candy flavored lip gloss that she completely eats off her lips within an hour of putting it on and other than that she's pretty much exactly the same.
dr riley grace's style icon. she's just gnc enough that hopeful queer students ask "do you have a wife?" when inquiring about her personal life but not gnc enough for it to have ever needed to be a conscious decision at any point.
how it feels to message a friend who's having Problems that you can't do anything to help with.
#i appreciate how genuine and non-judgemental this comic feels #like left one is not upset at right one for caring while being powerless #and right one seems genuinely distraught and not performative
I'm glad the facial expressions are coming across accurately! It can feel so absurd to say gosh I hope the torment maze removes some fire and rusty nails soon, but alas, sometimes that's all one can do.
Also sometimes you and your friend are both in Torment Mazes, different ones, and while yours is way hotter, you know that your friend's has just so many more rusty nails than yours does, and so you and your friend vent to one another about your respective Torment Mazes and sympathize in a way that makes very clear that it's not a Torment Maze Olympics, there is no competitive element about whose Torment Maze is worse, and you both just genuinely wish the other to be freed from their Torment Maze as soon as humanly possible
