Gotta drop the bombshell already and introduce the real OC I paired with Abrams. Gotta admit, I was really shy to share her for the fact that I just made her to "yume" myself with the first character of this game I fell for (ironic, is it?).
They have this "partners to close friends" to "both are dumb to confess each other’s feelings"
I know its unusual posting this bit late at night, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm okay. Of course I am a exhausted from school and all that bullshit, but I've also been having problems with my iPad, and I'm trying to be really careful with its memory. (It's a bit old, and I had to delete a lot of things from it😓) I really want to get back to my usual routine and be able to share my art with you guys. like i said, I've been so exhausted with schoolwork that I'm even losing inspiration. Hopefully, things will get better for me since I’m almost 2 months ahead of summer vacations. So yeah take care guys and I will finish my left homework quickly haha💜
recently designed a deadlock stickersheet for my own amusement cons! not many people know of it around here but it gives a right brainblast to those who recognize it lol
it was hard to narrow it down to only a portion of the heroes but it made sense to me to have an amount that would make up one game/two teams! :^D
Hey guys! So this was supposed to be an answer to a question about my Deadlock OC, Darla, but i accidentally deleted it bc i'm still new to tumblr settings💀💀💀 So i'm gonna make a brief post especially made for that person asking me about Darla and who she is exactly. (I'm so so srry pls accept this quick Lore post of her)
For what i can tell you atm (since I wanna introduce her lore at its time) she used to be part of a cult that prayed for the Doorman (as the patron he was) and it wasn’t that good since her family was very conservative about many stuff. The Doorman, who in this alternate story surrounding her, he was captured by another cult that hated the patrons and managed to capture him in a magical box using many forbidden spells to contain him, only communicating through a shadowy form he developed thanks to the box.
After a conflict of her cult, Darla ran away from the place of many of her traumas, that's where she stumbled upon Doorman, which he explained to her of his current situation and the fact that he never knew there was a cult venerating him, oopsie daisy
Many stuff happens, and so she and Doorman got to an agreement to free him and help eachother, since the other cult who captured him is now after her. She got to kill and lie to get away from her past. After a long journey, Doorman was finally free and ready to get back at the Baroness, but Darla couldn't help but feel gratefull with Doorman for saving her she offered to work for him at the hotel, and so is the Doorman for freeing him. He trained her, and respected her conditions, and thus Darla has now a new life as a humble receptionist at the most haunted hotel of New York <3
Wait, you guys like my Deadlock OC fr? I thought you were joking…
(Sorry if I was a bit slow at posting, but y'know, school. But the holidays are coming, and maybe I can have the time to share more art I can make and have stored around🤞🤞)
I had this Deadlock OC for quite some time, she’s basically a recepcionist with an attitude for the Baroness who has a "partnership" with the Doorman. Picture her as a meaner Miss Pauling haha.
These are all i can show atm, soooooo let me know what you guys think!
Because I'm probably gonna become a Deadlock fanartist too and I want my followers to have context.
Deadlock's the latest video game being developed by Valve, the studio behind Portal, TF2, and the Half Life series. It's a 3rd-person MOBA/Hero Shooter, but you don't need to worry about that because I won't be talking about gameplay. (But just a heads up, it's really not as complicated as most MOBAs and there's a simplified gamemode that's basically just 4v4 objective-based quickplay. I'd recommend giving the game itself a try if you can, especially since the wider fandom can be very wary of "tourists.") The game is currently unfinished and unreleased, with a free early access version available via invite from a player who already has the game. Big updates happen every couple months. One of the biggest appeals of getting into it now is seeing the development process live and the world/characters becoming more and more fleshed out. Despite its unfinished state, there's already so much story, worldbuilding, and character lore. Here's the gist:
Deadlock takes place in a supernatural-noire 1950s New York City. If you need a reference point for the worldbuilding, think Skullgirls meets Bioshock 1. Very dark, moody, and urban, with a strong focus on the occult. At the end of the 19th century, an eclipse triggered a supernatural event called the Maelstrom that opened the gates between Earth and the supernatural astral plane. Now, 50 years later, two rival gods (or "Patrons") known as the Hidden King and the Archmother are vying for power over Earth. To perform the ritual, both Patrons have recruited fighters and odd-balls from around NYC and the world with the promise to grant them whatever wish they desire. Our cast must battle on the streets of The Cursed Apple to claim victory for their Patron.
A lot of the cast are inspired by classic Halloween monsters (Frankenstein's monster, zombies, vampires, gargoyles) or American legends. Each of them have something they want from the Patrons, though their motivations range from ambitious to heroic to modest to self-serving. Here are some notable characters (AKA my favs):
Holliday is the granddaughter of the legendary sharpshooter Doc Holliday and the small-town sheriff of Macomb, Illinois. Her peaceful life was interrupted when a serial killer known as "The Troubadour" began a gruesome killing spree in her town, perhaps claiming the life of her sister. Driven by revenge and anger, she's chased him to NYC and wants to use the Patrons to kill him. Very few of the characters believe she's strong enough to do it. Personality-wise, Holliday's a prickly grump who hates city life. She has constant nightmares about the murders and her faults as a peace-keeper. She desperately wants to go home, but doesn't feel worthy of doing so until she finds justice for her people. She's had multiple divorces and hates kids.
Ivy is a church gargoyle come to life. After awakening, she instinctively protected a family from being attacked and was adopted as a member of the Arroyo family. 18 years later, she's a beloved vigilante savior to her NYC community, Spanish Harlem, and has been fighting to take down the Mendoza Syndicate, a crime family that has been terrorizing the barrio. She's a heroic but naive sweetheart who loves her family and believes in peace and justice. Many characters, even the villains, commend her efforts to keep NYC safe. She has a Puerto Rican accent.
Professor Dynamo is a professor of quantum physics at Columbia University. After an astral anomaly from the Maelstrom atomized his body and reduced it to stardust 50 years ago, he was able to rebuild himself in an android frame. 19 years after the incident, he fell in love with and married a woman named Marla. His wish to the Patrons is to get his human body back so he can be complete with Marla, but many characters point out how selfish his wish is. How would his wife feel if he died trying to get his body back? Does she not love him for who he is, human body or not? Dynamo is an affable, easy-going, and clever fellow who wants to be friendly to everyone. He often gives advice to younger characters as if they were his students.
Vyper is an impulsive, self-serving piece of shit gorgon from Wisconsin. She's a low-life criminal who'll do anything and kill anyone for a quick buck. The only thing she's better at than getting arrested is escaping from the slammer. She's probably the funniest character on the cast. Very similar to Scout from TF2 in terms of voicelines and their boastful yet pathetic personality. Despite her reputation, she's surprisingly chill and laidback. She's also remarkably stupid and pronounces her own ultimate as "pentrification." Nobody likes Vyper. Not even the arrogant and womanizing boxer Lash, whom she has a crazy crush on (she likes to watch him sleep). Vyper's also hinted to be bisexual and likes hitting up strip clubs. She's one of those characters with a very outdated WIP model, so we're excited to see what her final design looks like.
Mina Ha is a spoiled rich girl who craves to be even richer. Once she was arranged to marry Arin Fairfax (known as Pocket in the cast) and join the upper echelon of the American elite. Then Arin was assassinated (which totally sucks because she was planning on doing that herself after the wedding). To appease her tantrum, Mina's parents had a vampire to turn her and make her forever young. Now, Mina strives to climb the vampiric social ladder and become Viscount of NYC. She's a prideful, clout-driven mean girl who sneers at anyone she deems beneath her. But deep down, she's a scared girl who bullies others for her own security. Mina's Korean-American and works as a fashion designer by day.
Pocket was the heir to Fairfax Industries, a titanic corporation that rules NYC's economic world. After surviving the assassination attempt, Pocket spent the past 5 years in hiding, believing their father to be behind the attempt. Not much else is known about them. They're a brooding urchin with frog and teleportation powers (not sure why). They want to burn Fairfax Industries to the ground. They're canonically non-binary.
Silver is a werewolf bounty hunter. She's described as a "hot mess" alcoholic smoker who barely makes rent through her bounty business. Although she claims she can control when she "wolfs out," her gameplay proves she doesn't have real control over her transformations. Her wish to the Patrons is for a better life. Personality-wise, she's a self-destructive asshole with a constant hang over who pushes people away. She's going after the Troubadour too and sees Holliday as a rival. She speaks with a slight Southern drawl.
Celeste is a unicorn that transformed itself into a human to work at a circus as its star showgirl. Over the years, she's fallen in love with her found family of freaks and weirdos at the sideshow and wants the Patron's help to protect them. She's a girl's girl who'll compliment (and maybe flirt with) the other female cast members. She's outgoing, bubbly, and wisecracking, with a heavy New York/Coney Island accent (she sounds a lot like Harley Quinn).
Seven is perhaps the game's biggest villain. He's a dangerous, murderous occultist who became fused to his electric chair. With his newfound supernatural powers, he wishes to achieve apotheosis and attain godhood. Despite his delusions of grandeur and overall evilness, Seven isn't crazy. He can be very rational, and will make small talk with other characters and even give them advice. Even if those conversations end poorly, and his advice is very terrible. He claims he doesn't like killing people, but obviously isn't against it either. In their voicelines, it's implied he used to be lovers with Kelvin (toxic yaoi).
The Doorman is an eldritch trickster god who got bored of tormenting humanity and disguised himself as a humble doorman at The Baroness hotel (which is the most haunted hotel in the tristate area). His motivation to fight seems to be to simply meet the Patrons, though he is tempted to use them to return to his old self. It's implied he can read minds, as his ultimate ability traps his victim in a hotel dimension while his echoing voice taunts and picks apart their flaws and traumas. He's sassy, he's gay, he's a tumblr sexyman.
Drifter is a centuries-old vampire and a true villain. A classic boogeyman who stalks the night and leaves bodies drained of blood in his wake. He has no wishes except to kill. And the ritual is a perfect playground. Everyone, including the vampiric society, want him dead. He speaks with a Cajun accent and is voiced by Matt Mercer. Also a sexyman.
Vindicta is the ghost of a young woman murdered during the Salem Witch Trials by John Hathorne. After the Maelstrom brought her spirit back to Earth, she took up a sniper rifle and began assassinating high-ranking members of the "Friends of Humanity," a puritanical, neo-inquisitional political party led by Hathorne's descendant. As a ghost, she is unbothered with killing. Her abilities to fly and float give her any sniping vantage point she needs. She's led by a strong sense of revenge and justice and wishes to kill the Friends of Humanity and protect supernatural peoples from their oppressive policies. However, she's very standoffish and is not interested in making friends. The one person she's bonded with is Grey Talon, an elderly Native American character and founder of "The Baxter Society." They've worked together to kill Hathorne's followers and have formed a sort of father/daughter relationship.
And this doesn't even cover half of the cast of characters! I couldn't even get to my other favs like McGinnis or Abrams or Bebop or Paige. If this all sounds interesting and cool to you, but you don't really wanna play a MOBA, I'd recommend checking out the character interactions and dialogue, which can all be found on Youtube (here's a playlist). The voice acting is phenomenal, you get a good look at characters' relationships, and all the lines have that one-of-a-kind Valve quality and wit to them that you can expect from their other games.
A lot of things are still unfinished or unimplemented, but will be added as development continues! For example, there's gonna be a visual novel side game included in the main game, with each character on the cast getting their own campaign for you to play through! It's hinted that every ending you unlock gives you a skin or cosmetic for a character too! Here's art from one of the leaked storyline for Lady Geist.
If you like TF2, I promise you this will become your new obsession.
