(this is not super controversial)

from a viewpoint of lacanian psychoanalysis, the forgotten man represents a foreclosed-upon individual, which would make his eggs a symbol of, well, anti-foreclosure (i'm not defining these terms yet, look it up). simply by pairing by opposition + the new dialogue from chapter 5 + some other stuff ("COMPLETE WITHOUT ISSUE"), the implication that i am drawing is that a: gaster is not the forgotten man, they are against each other, b: (more speculative) gaster represents the forcible removal of unpleasant things via foreclosure, wheras the forgotten man and, more specifically, his eggs represent remembrance, and c: FRIEND represents gaster's foreclosing agent - that is, the thing that makes people forget, the thing that severs a symbol from its referent. think of them less as a minion (although they probably are), and more as a garbage collector for his little pocket world.

i don't think anything i am saying here is Super Groundbreaking i just want to throw a stake in the ground.

semi-relatedly i believe "separating a symbol from its referent" is analogous to what happened to december holiday but that's again a point for the later essay
